Infamous anime episodes

Infamous, not Famous.

Episode 12 of Steins;Gate? A lot of fucked up shit happens in that episode, which I won't spoil.

I'm still going to go with my first example, as it was a hell of a way to go. The last scene with Spike is perfect; it's like absolute fulfillment for me.

I'm not arguing about whether the ending was pointless, really. I'm arguing this point:

You said it shouldn't count as infamous because you thought it made sense/wasn't pointless. The latter doesn't prove the former, only a generally positive consensus about the episode would do so. There may be one? Just not from my interactions and what I've read, so I doubt it. If that wasn't what you were trying to say, then I guess there's just a miscommunication here.

The only thing I've been saying these last few posts is that I disagreed about it being pointless lol

As for whether or not the finale is actually infamous, I mean, you say a lot of people apparently hated it. I myself never got that kind of impression (but again, it's not like I went around searching for reactions), much less thinking that the finale was even that memorable/controversial to begin with. If it is, then sure, whatever lol

My english is apparently not good enough. I thought infamous meant something along the lines of "controversial"

Pretty much the definition I'm going with. I would say stuff like the Madoka Magica example where the tone completely changes would count for example, I dunno :p

To be fair it is perhaps too recent an example to pull from while something like Kira's return in Gundam SEED Destiny for example is probably going to remain a lot more enduringly controversial. (And in that example I'm actually someone who didn't have a big problem with it.)

School Days the thread?

Some nasty shit happened at one point

A really good friend of mine back in the day asked me to watch that. I've never seen an anime series in its entirety, not even DBZ.

Good lord School Days was traumatizing shit, but it's like watching a car wreck I couldn't put it down until it ended. That ending was fucking brutal. I couldn't believe anime could be like that.

Thats still famous, not Infamous to both to your examples.

Infamous is something like jumping the shark or rather so bad it's really fucking bad.

Think Indy 4 fridge scene or Haruhi's endless eight.

It's probably fair to include something where a show had a sudden tonal shift or just had a profoundly shocking moment or whatever, even if (maybe especially if) it is done well. Episode 8 of Twin Peaks season 3 would probably be such, it's peak David Lynch and completely blue balled you on (obvious) forward momentum, but was one hell of a crazy trip.

Half the events in End of Evangelion and most of Rebuild 3.33 would qualify for this. For an older choice...how about the island arc of Nadia: Secret of Blue Water?

I haven't finished Kado but it does seem the show ends on quite a bizarre note.

The ending of the Claymore anime. I don't hate it as much as other folks though. Maybe the entire Tsukihime anime counts, considering people prefer to deny its existence. On a comparable note, I believe Eureka 7 AO is also getting that treatment.

Eupheminator. Thats when you know you have to stop watching Code Geass.

That counts as an infamous moment, sure, but even with (or because of) all of its ups and downs...I'm legit glad about sticking with the series to the end. While it doesn't necessarily work out for absolutely everyone, I think many still appreciated the catharsis.

Always good to see Dictionary fans triggered when people use modern interpretation of words rather than some shitty dusty version of it.
A lot of people using a word out a context doesn't suddenly make it acceptable, it just means there's a lot people using a word out of context. :p

Oh this too

This is from an action/comedy series.

Not really spoilers, but the final episode of Excel Saga was intentionally made so over-the-top obscene that it couldn't be aired on TV. You had to buy the DVD.

Hunter x Hunters Gon vs Pitou fight as just one big holy fucking shit.

Also huge credit to the voice actress of Gon because she nails it.

Aldnoah was always bad, it's just that the finale was shocking enough to string along people despite them knowing this. That said, wow, the 2nd season exceeded expectations.

The series, Another, I think of the episode where the fire broke out in the mansion, or whatever they were in.

I mean the series in general was supposed to be a like a horror drama thing, but due to the way so many deaths occur, particularly in that ep, I consider it to be a hilariously unintentional comedy series.

I enjoyed it, it was nothing special but interesting enough to see where it was going, they could have done something with the ending but they backpaddled full force.

The most hilarious thing is that they promoted the shit out of it with big bill boards showing the presumed dead characters haha.

EDIT: Well, I thought with infamous you can also count controversial episodes, too, or just stuff where the whole internet in general went "holy shit". Guess if infamous is legendarily bad, then my example doesn't really count.

That shit was insane and one of the most-talked episodes in recent memory. Also, the final two episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Say where it's from.

That one Pokémon episode in the safari where everyone was constantly pointing and making threats with a gun. It was pretty bad. Worst thing was that it was the episode where Ash caught all of his Tauros, but it was never aired on the dubbed channels and everyone kept wondering where these Tauros came from.

Nice ones, and ugh Endless Eight... well, actually, that was probably one of the most hilarious runs in retrospect..

I think the informal line between 'infamous' and 'famous' is drawn when something unforgettable is ultimately the result of something shocking and/or crazy which leaves you shaken up or 'mazed to the point of immobility. The formal, technical one is when it's memorable because of the initially negative/mixed/flabbergasting reaction and/or its living legacy. I guess either can apply here as long as the former doesn't end up becoming pretty much synonymous with 'best-ever episodes'. They overlap in a lot of ways. :p

I was honestly expecting (aside from Endless Eight and Evangelion) to see someone mention the Lost Universe episode so fucked they essentially had to completely remake it for the home video release

https://youtu.be/j35UTxKV9YI

There's bad and there's "Only finished 2 pages of a 20 page term paper."

More famous if anything. Anyways, it fit with the themes of the show in making it ambiguous as to who was truly right in all of that mess.
Bruh I was rooting for the humans every step of the way.

I'm still mad that vampire girl didn't get her head smashed in by Master Roshi, now she can start this shit up again, smdh.

I mean, so was I because fuck vampires, but it did become very awkward to continue rooting for them ever since they started truly fighting back.

FMA has very many shocking scenes. this one got me the most

Thanks for reminding me of this scene. :( Jesus I was so shocked and scared after seeing and hearing it.

There's one scene in Hunter X Hunter that doesn't get a lot of attention for some reason: the Uvogin fight
versus the Shadow Beasts. Dude just bit off part of someone's skull off, then spat it at another guy. The guy tried to block it with his hand, but it goes through both his hand and head.

Okay, this is a clever troll on several levels lol
Yeah, definitely feeling a bit troll-ish, haha.

I have nothing to contribute right now, since my answers (FMA, Nisemonogatari and Madoka Magica) have already been listed. I'll try to think of something to add later.
