IT - Official Trailer 1

I really dig the new scene, but I'm not going to badmouth the old iconic one. Curry's line reading of "oh yes... they float Georgie..." is etched into my mind in the most disturbing way.

I'm sure there will be a good number of people who feel this way. I mean, Curry was the best thing about the mini series. So, if you were to wind up not digging this Pennywise, you could potentially be comparing the best part of one to the worst part of the other.

There is no fucking way the movie as a whole isn't better than the mini series, though.

They fucking NAILED it.
Note how Pennywise is drooling, but it can be is taken for rain. But it along with that hungry stare are enough to give Georgie pause. It's Salavating over Georgie.

Literally screaming!! Pop pop pop then dead stare. So damn good.

Yeah. In the original the situation going on made it seem like Georgie was just bored of the conversation (as bored as you can be speaking to a clown in a storm drain), and decided to leave, but didn't really have any reservations about taking the boat from Pennywise, and also fell for the idea of a sewer carnival.

This one makes it pretty clear that Georgie was gonna leave because this sewer clown was creeping him out and even questions why a clown is in the sewer, but he also really needed that boat or he'd get in trouble.

I can't believe that up until now I thought the Cameron Monaghan the kid from Shameless and Gotham(Jerome) was playing Pennywise. Look at that kid smiling and tell me it doesn't look the same!

Oh, I'm sure of it. I'm pretty sure I remember people still holding out that Ledger hadn't killed it as Joker when Dark Knight landed, too. "Yeah, he was good, but Nicholson was still better."

I know I'm gonna see it.

I don't think I'm gonna understand it past a certain point though.

I don't think Curry is bad at all. I think Curry made some fucking magic with that role despite the fact Tommy Lee Wallace stranded him as an actor more or less and he was wearing a discount clown suit. Curry is fucking great.

But this already feels way more like Pennywise than that ever did. Skarsgaard just has more to work with.

The miniseries pretty much relies solely on Curry for its energy.

It's a major improvement over making a little kid be as dumb as Georgie was in the original. Little kids have wild imaginations but they know when shit isn't right. In the end Georgie still needs the boat but I like that he isn't so easily gullible towards the end of the conversation.

I love that he threw in
"Bill said he'd kill ya" and that's what brings Georgie in in the end
.

That was intense. I wasn't sure how I felt about Pennywise at first, but after that stare... hooooooo boy.

Haven't been to the movies in over a year. Haven't seen a horror film in theaters ever. I can't wait to see IT.

Damn that clip was cool. Clown has really good character. The music when kiddo is running through the street is overdone cheese but what's going on in the sewer is subtle enough.

Damn that clip sold me on this version of Pennywise. That stare at Georgie is so good. Really wish it had played in front of my showing of Annabelle tonight.

For real though, when was the last time there was this kind of hype for a horror movie? Like, not just, oh shit, this looks scary, but oh shit this looks good and scary?

Just finished the book last week. Honestly, I was very underwhelmed. It started slow, picked up in the middle, and then it was a chore to read by the end.

However, the new movie adaptation looks fantastic. Hope they don't make it 3 hours.

It's two hours and fifteen minutes. Personally, I wouldn't mind the epic three hour version, largely because I totally disagree with you on the book. It's a phenomenal American story, and, I think, in the hands of the right filmmaker, it could be very relevant to our day and age, especially if some of the less plot-centric material is left in.

Edit: Just wanted to point out that I'm aware this only covers the childhood portion of the story.

I've seen tons of people say they don't even like horror films but they're excited for this. It's gonna be massive.

And why would I want them?
I love that
the eyes appear first like that, especially when you go back to the book and the first thing that startles George are the yellow eyes in the darkness of the sewers

That shot immediately reminded me of the book cover actually.

I'm really trying not to let the hype get to me here man but my god that was even better than what I was expecting and I had insanely high hopes.

Skarsgard is going to absolutely kill it in this role.

Man that clip is killer. I love everything about it.

I think that's the entire point, the music's supposed to sound whimsical and adventurous, because to Georgie he's out sailing in stormy seas with his boat, then it gets more eerie in its tone when Pennywise pops out.

Edit: I'm a massive turd, I fixed my post. Sorry for being a massive turd.

Man it's going to be really tough to not watch that scene for the next few weeks.

I am trying to get my gf to go with me even though she is terrified of clowns. She says she will, but after seeing the trailer during Atomic Blonde she wanted to change her mind.

I love seeing scary movies with people who freak out.

Okay, so, further deconstruction of that scene, but, I loved that the
music sort of fades into this sound of children playing in a carnival of sorts. Like, that actually adds a *lot* to the overall difficulty of this scene both in the book and in the TV series, is that it begs the question why even take this person for his word? So having the sounds there, of kids playing and having fun, that lends some credibility (and eeriness) to the whole thing.

Characterization-wise, at first I heard Curry, and then, it like, augmented itself, and the tempo changes, and then the animalistic nature of the character shows through with the drooling and the dead stare... it, in one scene, makes this Pennywise already a much more complicated, emotive thing to me. Holding back the hunger, changing gears of seriousness to levity, sometimes the voice bending this way or that. It's really compelling.

I wish the conversation still had the
"My dad told me not to talk to strangers"
bit. I liked how Pennywise praised George's father before introducing himself.

Can anyone pm me the clip? Would love to see it. Sorry for the begging. Edit: never mind, seen it!

On topic, IT is straight up nostalgia for me. When i was a kid I watched aaall the horror movies but only the miniseries could scare me. I was traumatized for years, literally. The book was fantastic too. After some doubts Im hyped as hell for the movie!

Scene was really good, totally sold me on the movie. I think this Pennywise is a lot more effective at being scary, although the old one is more effective at being a convincing clown the child wouldn't be afraid of. I think this one will work a lot better for the kind of story this is though, in the end.

One of the hugest things I feel will be missing from the new IT is the incredible soundtrack of the original miniseries. I'll even go as far as to say that the original IT has one of the best horror soundtracks of all time.

While I can't completely judge the soundtrack for the new film as it's not out yet but so far the bits we have heard seem more like regular "generic" horror movie music. I hope I'm wrong though. The music of the 90s movie help sell the terror of it all.

Remember when everyone wanted this film to fail horribly because Pennywise looked straight out of the DC Universe movies?

I don't understand the love here.... Watched it again after some space.

The "you'll float too" repetition just sounds utterly forced. Like, they're too aware of how much of an iconic line it is so they're milking the hell out of it.

They don't give us enough time on the conversation with IT and Georgie to know if it's actually going to be creepy. The original was so creepy because Curry was playing innocent with hints of something terrible, here the clown looks generic Evil from the get go.

The film surrounding these parts looks decent, I like the actors and the look and feel, but the actual IT stuff looks incredibly, incredibly forced.

Hope to be proven wrong, but not feeling it right now.

Anecdotally the hype for this film is steadily growing. If the reviews come in, and word is the film is a solid horror film, I think this could be huge. And when I say huge I mean $75-80m opening huge.

Remember when everyone wanted this film to fail horribly because Pennywise looked straight out of the DC Universe movies?

If you're going to shit post at least make it coherent.

Side note if you want to feel old...

The time distance between this movie and the original TV series, is the same as the original TV series and 1963.

I can deal with 2:15.

Watched it again.

The cinematography looks great. The yellow raincoat looks as good as it did on Corey Feldman in Friday the 13th part 5.

But, when the boy said "why are you in the sewer?" I snapped out of the clip for a moment of clarity and saw how silly it looks with Pennywise down in that sewer looking out. Haha.

When reading up on
the creature from the black lagoon
and such, I would have wanted them to set it in the same time as the book. Because, why not keep it as closely adapted as possible. And then the sequel with the adults could have taken place in the 80s.

And regarding Pennywise. People saying "he's supposed to be scary(!!!) so he have to to look like the cover of an Alice Cooper album and not like an ordinary clown" – Even the most jolly goodhearted clown is like on frown away from looking crazy scary. So, having Pennywise with this design is a choice. But having him designed in another way wouldn't have made it worse just because of some fatalistic "this is the right way to go"-reason or because of you not liking Currys
design.

Now I need to watch the scene from the miniseries again.

What clip ? what is everyone talking about ? : |

NM, saw it, albeit in sub potato quality.

Pretty good stuff, Pennywise is legit.

Could do without the Danny Elfman sounding score as the boat sails down the street and some camerawork (eg. zoom on the sewer hole).
Those give the clip an early 90s cinematography feel, maybe intentionally so
