Stellar post, Hawkian!

I have a general exocraft question... if you build a base > build an Exocraft, is the Exocraft locked to that base/planet? Or do you now have a vehicle for any planet surface you land on?

I really like this screenshot:

How many extra Tech and Cargo slots can you add to your exosuit now?

Is it bugged on new games as well or just old ones?
No one knows the answer to the first, because of the answer to the second XD

Good question- don't have experience with this, but I think you exocraft live in bays physically at your base, so I don't think you can access them on another planet without claiming a new base there.

tooootally worth mentioning. -_-
I don't know what uses what, but Megaliths, Big Things, and this other one that the OP here posts https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/6tk2ee/the_upside_down/?sort=top

(I don't say the name because I can't even find the mod based on the name he states, but at least he provides a link)
After checking into them, imma give Big Things a try. Hopefully expect some cool shots soon. :)

After you add one to your base, you can build an exocraft pad on any planet and spawn one. It's useful for doing extended mining operations without having to return to your ship to unload.

Is there a good way to make cash btw? I remember there used to be a way by harvesting and selling strange glowing orbs but I've not even seen them yet. Hauling gold for 100k a run feels kind of useless.
Farming is probably still the best. Theorycrafting based on Economies tests I've done and seeing some Farmer feedback, maybe Farmers can make up to 10-12 million an hour with a large enough farm; best numbers I've crunched for Economies, assuming a 48 slot ship, were about 5 million an hour. Both those figures are very endgame though... Especially Farming.

Economies trading though is pretty scaleable. Probably more so than mining because there's much less travel time involved so at least when you move lower volume, you spent much less time traveling to sell. Basically buy in one Economy type and sell in its ideal target market (E.g. Mining Economy Trade Items in an Manufacturing Economy). Wealth level affects quantity of items that merchants have but early on any merchant probably has enough for you.

BTW, Economies affect item prices, too, but not by much. I've seen gold hover around 220 credits in both Mining and Manufacturing Economies. Interestingly, the only time I've ever seen it about 225 was in... Alchemy Economy, I think it was. Alchemy or Processing, pretty sure it was the former.

But if you're mining and sell a lot of Gold, you can still squeak out an extra 5-10% maybe. Think the large variation I've seen in gold was a min of 211 and a max of 228 so it's still sub <10% room for improvement if you were selling low. (All the prices are pre-player sale... I've purposefully been only mining Elerium and been keeping/not selling a stack of gold so I can compare prices that haven't been lowered by player supply.)

Also, BTW, there are only 5 or 6 Economy types. There are quite a few names for the same ones... Mining, Prospecting, Ore Extraction, Minerals... Technically are all "Mining." Manufacturing, Engineering, Industrial, Construction -- all "Manufacturing." Sort of like how planet descriptions also have multiple descriptions for the same core biomes (e.g. Lifeless Moon, Airless Moon, etc of Windy Wastes, Arid Planet, Desert, etc).

If you have the resources you can build a Geobay on another planet, otherwise the vehicles are stuck on your home base planet.

Regarding the vehicles, do you get all resources back when you delete a pad on a different planet?

Edit: You usually do when you delete one of those cheap becaons for finding bases etc.

So the main quest is glitched if you went to many solar system away from arthemis. Once you completed the "blueprint" which lead you to recruit a scientific in the first place , it says to go to your base via the space station teleporter but once at your base you cannot reach her.

Oh well ill continue the base missions and side missions for now see how far it leads until this is patched

edit: sent official bug report to Hello Games

BTW the new Flora Scanner is pretty cool, it let's you mine Secondary Resources.

I was trying it yesterday and I was getting like 2-4 Plutonium from rocks for about every 10 or so Iron. You can kinda see here... couple rocks that gave me 18 Iron also gave me 8 Plutonium. A bunch of Iron or Carbon flora were giving me Thamium9, too. Was on a nuclear waste planet haha guess it 'energized' all the regular flora lol o.0

You just gotta scan a flora type once and then you identify if it has a Secondary Resources, and it'll forever give you both resources when you mine it. Seems to only apply to regular resources though, the 'flora' ones that you can scan. Not mineral deposits.

You can get the Flora Scanner from an item delivery Mission too as a reward, too, so probably pretty handy to try get as early as possible. Wish I had that during my first 10 hours or so on Survival/Permadeath haha.

I think there must be more systems governing this, because I don't have these new scanners and I tend to get some Platinum and Thamium iirc, from mining Iron outside my base. My equipment hasn't changed at all from before 1.3.

You actually don't need the flora scanner tech for this. Just need to scan them. Rocks are not flora btw ;) it does apply to flora as well, but neither all rocks nor all flora have secondary resources.

The most interesting things I saw were plants that gave out mordrite (in the notes it said "proto-skeletal") and one that gave out nitrogen (barely ever seen this anywhere) in addition to carbon, and rocks that gave Emeril in addition to iron.

Edit: yeah Minamu, this is universal-is just a feature addition for 1.3. It is in the notes for it. No new tech is needed, but you do need to have scanned the target beforehand (which shows which secondary resources it provides) to mine them.

The effect of the new flora and fauna scanner tech I have seen is to award additional units for scanning them (aka plz gimme)

Oh, I presumed the scanning is what unlocked it because the way the patch notes described it...

Patch notes said:
"Analyse resources before harvesting for to gain alternative resources from mining."

Guess it works without scanning though? I never tried haha it was the first thing I bought to try test out that patch note :p

hehehe I sort of meant 'Flora' as far as the game labels non-deposit resources on the Discovery menu, not 'flora' per se as in I thought rocks were plants hehe Q_Q

You must scan them. But you don't need additional tech to be able to scan them.

Yep it just works. :) What does the description of the actual tech you got say?
Yeah you're right, the upgrade isn't even what the patch notes are referring to. The new flora and fauna upgrades are just for scan credits; the new secondary resources is a default feature in all scanning. I totally misread that.

And I just realized that about rocks lol... 200 so hours into the game and I was still 'scanning rocks to report/get credits o.0 I guess I don't pay much attention to scanning :( I'm at nearly Lv10 for most of the Milestones but the planet zoology one (Scan everything on 1 planet) is still at 0 Q_Q

I actually am saving up nanites for the fauna scanner one at my local space mart right now haha.

Where can i find a scientist... I keep going to the spacestation and nothing... Will i have to jump to a different system and find a new ss?

When you have to keep a page in your Notes app for what system names on the base teleporter list are actually called because HG still hasn't fixed the teleporter not showing the custom names you gave systems.

I filed a bug with them when the teleporters were first introduced and it's still not fixed.

Damn... You and the other person in this thread that are being constant catastrophic failures are both on AMD. the game had big compatibility issues at launch that were fixed, I hope they can be sorted very soon if that's what's going on again.

Speaking of this... I really really hope they let us update, refresh, even reset past Discoveries...

My pseudo gamer OCD is being driven crazy by old desert planets that became swamps, and were updated from "Arid" to "Humid" or 'Arid Planet' to 'Lush' but still show Cactus Flesh on the Discoveries resource list -_-

That, and all the old Landmark pictures that show a biome that no longer exists.

Thanks! Havent played since launch so couple more questions... If i jump to a new system can i come back to my home planet?
How do i jump to a new system i completely forgot?
You can return to your base from any space station.

Open the galactic map from the quick menu (down on the dpad). Switch to "free explore" by pressing left or right on the dpad. If your hyperdrive has fuel just select the system to warp to and hold x.

:(

I hope so too... I had 68 hours of playtime when the game launched.... Imagine how much more fun I'd be having now.

Sigh.

I was there on release for this game last year, but after about 25 hours it really wasn't doing anything for me. It wasn't so much the lack of "game" as it was the lack of interesting and weird things to find. While I still think the game is lacking in terms of those really fluid and interesting creatures they showed pre-release, and I'd love to see the creature generation getting an upgrade (alongside ringed planets, binary planets/stars, and just weirder space phenomena in general), I do think Hello Games has managed to dig the game out of a hole. As someone who dropped it a year ago, while not necessarily feeling like a new game, it does feel like something significantly closer to the ambition those trailers showed. It has more personality, it looks better, it sounds better, it has more hooks. And while I was NEVER one of the people clamoring for the game to have a purpose, giving players goals and spikes of structured gameplay certainly makes up for where the pure exploration lacks right now, and satiates the feedback loop most people look for.

With the foundation in place now, I think year 2 (aside from co-op) should really focus on fleshing out the Fauna, Flora, AI, NPCs, Pirates, battles, etc. It's the systemic interactions that will take this to the next level, and surprises that will keep people coming back. And as much as people might dislike the idea of another universe refresh, I really do think it would be huge for Hello Games to find a way to get more planet + system types, derelict ships, and just weird stuff into the 'space' half of the game. The absence of ringed planets, even as an aesthetic thing instead of physically modeled debris, continues to be a strange omission.

And I don't know whether it's the proc-gen improvements, the lighting/texture improvements, the addition of photomode, or a combo of everything, but even through ~10 jumps on my fresh playthrough, the game is throwing way more striking moments at me than it ever did in vanilla:

I hope the next update is all about caves & what lies beneath. I'd love to see volcanoes. Rivers, waterfalls & hot springs. Geysers.

But mainly caves. Lots and lots of variations on them. I've noticed in 1.31 lots of variation in terms of cave quality and density, which is great.

BUT RAMP THAT SHIT UP! Dial the generation of caves up to 11.

You've got a real eye, Net! Damn.

I totally agree with everything you've said. My personal preference would be for the next big release to be just a ton of polish/QoL request and bug fix stuff, and the one after to focus on ecology. Some methods to go in search of the weirdest most unique creatures and plants, with never before seen types of them, with new tech to invest in to make finding them easier and more fun, and maybe eventually even collecting specimens to put in a menagerie on my freighter... I'd be returning to this game for the rest of my life.

As far as the universe regen for even mid iterative possibilities, I know exactly what you mean, but I also get attached to existing discoveries and efforts and there's a rough tradeoff. I wonder if it would be possible to regenerate ONLY UNDISCOVERED systems with the new assets and algorithms. How incredible would that be? Then not only would existing systems still be around and visitable by others, any undiscovered system would be way more likely to contain variety you hadn't seen in any system up to that point. Might be impossible based on their math, though. Aww.

Has anyone found out if the new Exotic S class ships respawn and rotate through like the other ships in a system?

I saw one at a space station, left to grab my junker ship and now I've been waiting for about 2 hours for it show back up.

I'm thinking it might be just very rare and random.

Any tips for Survival. I deleted my old save and started on a toxic planet. Got off that, and the next beacon was on an ice planet. With almost no plutonium. Like literally, I had to reload a few times for the shit to spawn. And I had nothing to dismantle for plutonium... what is your recommendation? Also how much plutonium do the launch thrusters need for one takeoff? 1000?

So in order to obtain glyph, you have to scan planet and look for monolith icons.
Often they are in craters/random cave and you have to get EVERY single glyph to input an address.
You don't get them through story.

They can refresh the universe as much as they want if it means getting more and more variety with planets. Id be over the moon of they're able to get running water.. rings... Binary/ different stars... even higher cliffs(i love where they are now) within the next year.

Im all about that proc gen.

Yeah, it'd be a great compromise, but I think it's not feasible considering the planets are still generated at runtime. So they'd have to keep around an old version of their algorithms each time they do a generation reset and make sure those don't break with whatever new game engine features they add.

Yup, exactly how I feel. Bring on the resets whenever there's meaningful changes. I really hope the water gets an overhaul next time, using shaders instead of polygonal volumes like they've talked about doing. The current water really looks outdated compared with the new high-res terrain textures.

I'm getting really frustrated with this game. I have spent nearly two hours trying to fly into a space station. I keep flying into the blue light, but it will not let me ship into the station. I even reloaded my previous save to see if that would make a difference, but it just will not allow me in.

I am on the quest that requires you to buy a dynamic resonator, and I have to go to a space station to buy one. Are there other space stations around? This is the only one I have found so far.

Suckers, looking so hard for "pretty" worlds for bases. I'll just be chilling in my "flora: undetected, fauna: absent" pancake-flat barren hellscape of low atmopshere! Random events don't even pop on the planet, it's so dead! It creates them on its one tiny moon, including the tutorial stuff from your staff! And so what if there are no other planets in the system? I like to travel long distances to perform basic tasks! And so what if the last patch respawned the floor level of the base floating up about 50 meters in the air? I need the exercise! And so what if that moon is extreme toxicity with acid rain storms, aggressive sentinels and angry crab monsters? Builds character!

Yeah.......... I need to move eventually, lol. Literally I'm uncertain if a worse arrangement exists anywhere else in this galaxy. Mostly I don't want to dismantle and reorganize my massive farming operation with well over 50 plants, but with how massive a pain it is to repower the harvesters continuously now I need to cut down.

Ummmm.... Hm. There is only one per system... not only should you be able to fly into it, you should not be able to not fly into it when you are in the blue light. It pulls you in. Is there any way you could take a screenshot of where you are at?

Er, that just sounds like a really weird bug. Never heard of that before.

If you're doing that quest you can't have a hyper drive yet. You're super early in the game, I'd start over. It'll take you much less than two hours to get to that point again.

You may want to try a creative mode save just to see if you can fly in there before you delete your save (on that mode you can just get in the ship and fly up).

Edit - I'm trying to visualise what's happening. It's an opening, are you bouncing off it or something?

Only one per system, so you won't be able to find another one until you can warp. Which you can't do until you get the resonator.

But you may be able to find an outpost that has a trading console somewhere on your planet. Not sure if they sell everything a space station does, but usually they do. The waypoint system's changed, so I can't recall how to find them, but someone else may know. That may be your only option if your game is bugged.

Starting over is another option. Frustrating, but it does sound like a weird bug.

Finding a workaround isn't a good option because entering a space station is such a simple thing that his whole save could be corrupt or something... I'm trying to think if there could be anything weird that I'm not thinking of but yeah that's the first I've ever heard of this one.

My entire play session today was spent on just one planet alone. I don't know how I managed to do it but I just fell in love with the planet at first sight. A mix of desert and rocky terrain full of canyons upon first landing I came across all kinds of different wild life, including these awesome looking flying fish in the air. Immediately made it my home planet.

And then I discovered all of the stupidly fast predators that seemingly roam in packs, cold weather that happens at night, and then massive heat storms that burn through my hazard protection in seconds. At least it's still pretty.

Scanned just about everything on the planet save for one last creature. It seems on every planet I go to I can find all but one fauna and its pretty annoying because I've searched high and low on this particular planet. There is no water either so where the hell could it be.

Here are some pics I took. First one was my first time landing with all of those flying fish.
