He doesn't have that much power. A lot of the people defending him aren't defending him because they love PDP.
They are defending him because they say the exact same things in private when gaming.
And admitting that he messed up means they have to reevaluate their own use of the language, which is uncomfortable for them.
Thankfully we can talk about him without giving him views or contributing to his ad revenue, so whatever attention he receives here, it does nothing for him.

Fuck this guy. He clearly forgot he was livestreaming. That word came out way too natural, and it's not a word anyone that doesn't use it often would jump to even in a moment of anger or frustration.

Yeah, I forget how bad gaming side is when it comes to these kinds of issues. I mean off-topic isn't perfect obviously, but at least any racists/sympathizers know how to lay low at this point.
IGN wasn't like this. Neither was GameTrailers. Of course, I'm talking 5-10 years ago, long before GamerGate and the alt-right existed.
Nowadays though? Most gaming forums are pretty shitty outside of this one. Maybe GiantBomb's or EasyAllies' boards are tolerable?

I stopped talking on the mic altogether because trolls would hear my accent and just start making terrorist, Muslim, India/Apu, 9/11 jokes. It was too much. I know, people say just play with friends but it's just not always easy to find time to play with friends. Anyways, I quit playing Left 4 Dead 2 a while ago any way.

I do not believe using DMCA to take away a persons videos because you dislike them is the correct course of action or lawful to do.
Every time I hear about DMCA is often of it being abused, and now being used the same way on someone 'we' dislike and it's now okay?

It's definitely a slippery slope. PDP deserves to get screwed over, but I'm just not sure if this is the right way to do so.

I don't think it's ever been truly decided that Let's Plays qualify as free use. It's probably still the publisher's choice and it's usually the smart choice to promote streaming and Let's Plays because of all the extra attention it brings your game.
Using someone else's content is a privilege, not a right, particularly in the case of Let's Plays. If they don't want their game to be associated with a person who'll use racial epithets to insult and demean then so be it.
Doesn't mean you should be using the DMCA. Is it fair use when you like them but copyright infringement when you don't?

Thanks for the link, this is a really interesting video. In this case the Firewatch developer probably can't successfully use DMCA because of the streaming policy they have on their website. Good on the devs for making a stand publicly though.
Also, he says technically, Pewdiepie has the most rights with copyright claims here against anybody using the racist segment in reporting videos.

Considering the headaches that many legitimate non-dirtbag content creators had to go through in dealing with abuse of the DMCA takedown system on YouTube, I am inclined to disagree with this particular method of action.
Lets plays aren't fair use. It is up to the people making the game if they allow you to play it or not.
When a person says racist shit. The devs etc have a right to stop their game being associated with that person. I am not on about the shaddy shit going on, I am on about a racist who doesn't deserve shit.
Do you guys not realize that you are giving him more attention, helping his bottom line, further pushing hate speech and doing nothing to make good of this situation?
In some posts there's even more vile hatred thrown at him and even worse, a lot more people advocating censorship and thought policing.

I just don't understand where comments like this come from within people. I hear shit like this on a somewhat regular basis like Overwatch too.
I was playing competitive OW and one of my teammates yelled out the following after spotting that the team had a Pharah
"PHARAH! THEY GOT A NIGGER IN THE TREES! NIGGER IN THE TREES!"
Like, what? Where do you even have to be from to have made that association. What mind comes up with this.
After identifying myself as black on voice comms they (he was in a party of 2 or 3) were like "oh..." then that awkaward silence before attempting to laugh it off. His comfort zone was temporarially displaced by sudden embarrassment and shame as he thought he was protected by a team of permissive or like-minded white males as he usually is and was thrown off balance upon realization that he was not. I'm sure he continued the behavior in the games he played that followed.
This was months ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. Not all words are just words, young people.
Honestly, the lengths and creativity I see people go to in order to promote their feelings of racial superiority or otherwise outpace their insecurities at the expense of others never ceases to amaze. My disappointment is multiplied, however, by some of GAF deciding to die on a hill to defend him or the idea that what he said wasn't that bad or didn't know what he was saying.
All just very disappointing.

L4D's community is smaller. Much smaller. But in my experience it's even worse.
If you think companies are being shady when they normally throw DMCA strikes at Lets Players but you're fine with it in this case, you're being a hypocrite.
The fair use / copyright infringement line has nothing to do with whether a person is racist or not.
I thought the last one was basically comedy gone wrong and I thought people were overreacting. I can't defend this one, though. There's no legitimate defense.
