Funimation has a license for Monster Hunter Stories dub and for quite some time already (ANN). Maybe the first episode is coming to the Nintendo Anime Channel on 3DS?

I'm saying this also because during the post E3 presentations around Europe they actually went deeper in showing and describing the Yoshi demo (slipping out a possible H1, off the record), while the Kirby one wasn't even mentioned (just videos on screen)

I think that with the current attach rate and popularity of Splatoon 2 - 3 million(double the Wii U LTD) will be achieved by the end of 2017 fairly easily. Legs of Splatoon were due to updates, splatfest and continued marketing. Nintendo will no doubt continue to push the game as the major reason for subscriptions for their online service in 2018 - especially in Japan. Hence I've maintained it would end up being one of the best selling games in Japan LTD. I'm thinking that by the end of 2018 it would be over 5 million in Japan alone.

In other regions we are yet to see how much growth it would end up seeing. I can certainly see it doing very well overtime as updates and marketing is rolled out, In NA I think it would be a top 5 title for the August NPD. With Walmart bundles being rolled out in September it might have a good hold in September as well. I think it's certainly over 600K in NA by now with digital/bundles.
In terms of Europe Splatoon 2 is doing 50K in the UK without digital, over 40K in Spain by the end of August without digital. Even higher numbers in France and Germany are extremely likely, so I'd say that doing over 500K in Europe by the end of August is possible.
I don't know if it will show the same kinda of legs as Splatoon but with Switch continuing to grow it's userbase I don't see sales slumping until the updates cease.

Yeah, 4 million is going to easily achieved before the end of 2018 imo, and 5 million should definitely be possible as well. Using 5 million as a basis (it might be even higher, but I don't want to use that as an assumption), the rest of the world needs to sell only 5 million more. That would be 1.9 million more than Splatoon 1 did.

True, although Splatoon 2 seems to be dropping dangerously low in the UK charts (24th right now), but maybe UK is just not a good temperature measure for Europe in general when it comes to this game. We will see. Splatoon 2 numbers should easily surpass the Splatoon 1 numbers in US, with the first month numbers, and also the bundle in September. I think 10 million should really be reachable for the game in the end, a massive success at any rate.

I couldn't be at the post-E3 events, so I didn't know that. But your reasoning is good, so you're probably right. It makes sense that way.

Some gaffers who have previously predicted stuff like L.A. Noire on Switch have hinted at a direct coming sometime this week.

I think Splatoon isn't that relevant in the UK compared to NA and Japan or even other european countries

Jokin': there have been sparse hints from Twitter and GAF guys here and there about a possible Nintendo bunch of info to be released soon
A Direct should be the logical way to manage them

Jokin'! I think that within mid September Nintendo should really disclose some info for the Q4 games, even just the announced and known one, plus Kirby 3DS. Could be through a Direct or retailer meetings, but something will come up.

I'm not sure that a Direct will cover third party unannounced game, on the other hand.
first, I'm still absolutely not sure aout actual third party efforts, but on top of that, we could probably see these possible third party games announced directly at TGS by the various publisher, not necessarily in a Nintendo Direct, especially if (as I suspect) those games will not be out so soon

2? 3?
I mean Splatoon 2 is already there but is MK8D expected to get there soon as well(could Zelda see a sales resurgence????)

I think MK8D has a shot for 2017, but not Zelda. Zelda will get to 1m, but not until in to 2018 I bet.

2, Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Maybe the possible mystery November game if there really is a mystery November game. Odyssey and Zelda will get there, but not this year (especially not Switch-only for the latter).

I think Nintendo's been holding back a lot of announcements that they need to communicate sooner or later anyway, so a Direct this week would make sense. As far as I know we still need:


  • Skyrim release date
  • Rocket League Release Date
  • Zelda DLC/Amiibo release date
  • Stardew Valley Release Date
  • Xenoblade 2 Release Date
  • More Info on Ultra Sun and Moon

Nintendo's probably gearing up for the Holiday Marketing Blitz, so now is a good time to get their schedule set and advertised.

Yeah I expect games to be saved for TGS since it's next week. We need release dates for games! And I think we'll see Golf Story get a date and some push behind it from Nintendo.

Other than your typical pessimism, I'm not sure why you would think there wouldn't be 3rd party announcements at the Direct. There usually are- heck the April Direct saw 7-8 3rd party announcements and that was pretty minor.

I've just said that, if third parties are preparing games for Switch, I think they will mostly be H2 2018 games.
And with TGS being within few days/weeks, we could see more games announced there than in a Direct, being the Direct maybe more focused on news about already known games without crucial details (Kirby doesn't even have a proper name yet, Xenoblade hasn't a date yet, Odyssey hasn't clarified the amiibo integration, Sun & Moon is under the radar so far and so on)

But if you look at Nintendo's August/September presentations/Directs, they basically always have Japanese 3rd party announcements- that's the whole point behind the timing- right before TGS. (in fact, I believe you usually see most TGS announcements actually announced before the event itself)

I think that with the precedent of the Direct "focused on ARMS and Splatoon 2" that also gave us a fuckton of announcements and the E3 Spotlight with "titles in 2017" that also announced a Kirby and a Yoshi for 2018 and a Pokemon and MP4, I don't think that will happen as much.
