So 2 days ago, I bought the XBR55X900E ($1799 BestBuy in Winnipeg), took it home and stuck it on the wall. My wife and I sit about 13-15' away, so I found it too small (she didn't), so I took it back today and got the 65" version ($2499), which is just perfect. 75" would be even better, but it is a little over my budget.
WOW! I mean, the reviewers all say this is the best TV to buy this year, but this thing really DOES rock!
I have mine hooked up to my PS4 Pro, so obviously the first thing I did was set it up for 4k and HDR and load up Horizons: Zero Dawn and run around a little bit in that, and I must say that it just blows you away at how awesome it looks in 4k and HDR. WOW! (Game Mode) Plus I found it playable at 15' away, vs the 55", which was nice.
I then loaded up Netflix and tried out a few movies in 4k (House of Cards and Planet Earth 2) and these movies both look awesome as well. I like how you don't get black crush or blobby blacks and how awesome the colors are overall. (Cinema Home).
I next loaded up YouTube and looked up some of the 4k and 4k/HDR content, and tossed that on their. It looked amazing as well. I would love to see some good Ultra-HD Blu-Rays as they should be better, but I will have to wait.
Next up, I tried out plain old Shaw Cable via coax, so 480i (if that) and I have to say that this TV does a way better job of upconverting that POS signal than any other TV I have seen in the last 15 years, aside from old Tube/CRT TV's. The picture actually looks pretty decent. I need to upgrade to a Shaw HD Box in the near future.
The sound is ok so far, but I will probably end up buying a sound bar for under the TV, as I don't want to hook up the stereo in my current condo.
I have not really played much with the Sony Android box, except to setup my Gmail Account and 4k. I plan on doing the optimizations that people are speaking about on that, so can't really comment on that aspect of the TV.
I have also not done any color optimizations yet either, I hope next week to have time to do some of those.
Input Lag:
I didn't really notice any input lag on Horizons Zero Down or Bloodborne. For the record, most of my gaming is done on a killer gaming PC with an awesome monitor, so I would most likely notice it (Acer XB270HU 144hz 1440p Gsynch) and a 7700k/1080Ti.
Internet:
I am using Shaw Cable 75Mbps connection, however I was watching YouTube and Netflix through the PS4 Pro's 5Ghz WiFi connection, and it streamed 4k fine. This means I can't comment on the quality of Netflix/YouTube/Amazon from within the TV's android box or its own WiFi itself. Will test that out in the future. I plan to get a 1Gbps Powerline Adapter in the near future and hook it up to that though as I hate using WiFi for things.
VERY happy with this TV so far after only about 10 hours of use. Hopefully I didn't buy a dud.
Do people recommend I get the extra warranty? I have 30 days to decide at BestBuy, but it is expensive... had though to maybe get the 2 year at least ($350), as electronics usually fails in the first year or stays good for a long time. My problem is with the heat in these Android Box portion of this thing killing it in the future...
