Tomorrow will be delivering mine :) , 6 days to South America from Amazon.co.uk

UPS seems to have only one truck, they told me after passing customs at 9:30 AM the package wasn't on route for the day.

Has it been determined if the GUI scales well? By this I mean that after you have more games than the thumbnails on the bottom of the UI accommodate, do they just run off the screen or does some animation happen that we haven’t seen yet since we have only 21 games on the system?

If they just run off the side of the screen do we know how many games you can add while still having every game visible as a thumbnail? I measured and it looks like only 10 extra games can be added and still have visible thumbnails.

They run off the side and you can't see the cursor selecting them anymore til it comes back round. And you're right, it's 10 before they stop fitting. Hakchi can turn this bar off entirely, though, if you fit more than 10 on and it bugs you.

So if I’ve kept up with the modding promises so far, we’ll be able to do the following:

1. Add an extra 20 or so games

2. Mod existing games with rom hacks

3. Take screenshots

4. Use a shortcut button combo to access the home menu

Anything else? This is pretty amazing on its own, but I hope they find a way to also include custom banners.

What features will hakchi2 have in addition to adding games?
Hakchi2 had a variety of features for the NES Classic. These included some of the the following (this is not a complete list):
Button combination to return to the home screen (down + select)
Game Genie compatibility
Expanded compatibility for third party controllers
Customization of the UI including music, icons, and backgrounds. This should include custom borders.
Automatic patch application (will likely be used to add SNES ROM headers)

I’m legit looking forward to the Custom Borders thread here. :)

I think you would have to hide the stock game and load the hacked version.

I suppose it doesn’t make much difference, but it would be nice if we could just simply apply the hacks to the games that are officially included.

Not sure if that runs the risk of permanently damaging them or anything. Either way, if we can just have the “definitive” game show up on the list without dupes, that’s fine too.

Borders don't seem very complicated, having a quick look. The first one, ambient, for example.

This is the actual .png file for that border in 4:3

YGhc4yb.png

It then has an additional transparent .png at the same size, called "mask.png" and an options.txt file which simply contains "hueluminositysaturation".

I kinda want a strategy guide for FFIII (VI), less for powerplaying, more for nostalgia. Anyone know if there are any that are good? I see a few options on ebay...

Exactly this. Keep it low, you don't need the entire library. Once I get past 20 extra, I'm not adding amazing classics anymore.

And generally speaking, the more choice you have, the less likely you are to put decent time and effort into anything.

I don't want/need the whole library but I've got about 50 or so titles I'd add to make it just perfect for me:

Actraiser
Adventures of Batman & Robin
Aladdin
Alien3
Animaniacs
Axelay
Batman Returns
Blackthorne
Chrono Trigger
Darius Twin/Force
Demon's Crest
Donkey Kong Country 2
Donkey Kong Country 3
Earthworm Jim
Earthworm Jim 2
Final Fantasy II
Final Fight
Final Fight 2
Final Fight 3
Final Fight Guy
Flashback The Quest for Identity
Gradius III
Harvest Moon
Hook
Killer Instinct
The Lion King
The Lost Vikings
Megaman X2
Megaman X3
Mortal Kombat II
Mickey Mania
NBA Jam
Out of this World
Pilotwings
R-Type III
Sensible Soccer
Sim City
Spiderman and Venom Maximum Carnage
Stunt Race FX
Sunset Riders
Super Mario All Stars
Super Bomberman
Super Bomberman 2
Super R-Type
Super Star Wars
Super Empire Strikes Back
Super Return of the Jedi
Super Turrican
Tetris Attack
Tetris and Dr. Mario
The Legend of the Mystical Ninja
The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse
Tiny Toon Adventures
Toy Story
Turtles in Time
U.N. Squadron
Yoshi's Cookie
Zombies At My Neighbors

That'd be a shame but I'd rather just add 10 (that's enough for the essentials imo) than mess up the GUI.

New features I hope are also included:

1. Border choices saved for each game. I’d love more themed borders to fit the game, like official artwork for DKC and such.

2. Random shuffle for music as the home theme. Adding MP3s would probably take space though when I could have another game or two installed.

My Walmart preorder (Aug 22) still sitting there "preparing." Sigh. If I'd known this was going to happen, I would've lined up somewhere last Friday.

In the same boat here. While I’m happy that all those 8/25’ers got their orders, I’m equally furious that we 8/22’ers look to be SOL due to walmart’s Incompetence.

10 is what I was hoping for. I’m totally fine shuffling an additional 10 around at a time.

Though that number might decrease if I have to use it for adding hacked versions of the existing games.

Oh nice hack version of current games, means we'll be able to have the reprogrammed Super Ghouls & Ghosts rom then!

I want to play Secret of Mana for the first time, but I’m waiting for the improved translation hack.

The localization is charming in that nostalgic way from what I’ve seen so far, but I’d prefer playing it with natural sounding text.

For me, I need:

Chrono Trigger (this is the number one game I want/need on my SNES Classic)
Mega Man X2
Mega Man X3
Soul Blazer
Illusion of Gaia
Terranigma
Donkey Kong Country 2
Donkey Kong Country 3
The Legend of the Mystical Ninja
Tetris Attack
Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals
Final Fantasy II

If I can get these on my console, I'd be a happy man. Obviously more would be better, but I'm not going to push things beyond what I absolutely need on there. It would sure help in my not needing to pull out my SNES and hook everything up just to scratch the itch to play these.

I would be so down replaying Secret of Evermore on the TV.
I really feel they should've included it in the official library of the SNESC.

Sorry if my question is a little off topic as it concerns the NES classic mini. I've only been able to add 6 games to it, otherwise the system gave me an C8 error. Is it a storage issue? Is the storage this small?

So will it be possible to use a different/better SNES emulator with the hack, maybe Snex9x as i think BSNES will be too much for device in the mini?

I feel a bit late on third as i missed out on the NES mini, but just got my snes mini in Australia and wtf at no power plug :/ this just seems like the weirdest shit to cheap out on nintendo

Mortal Kombat II
Killer Instinct

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

I had all three of them back in the 90's. Of them all, I found the Official Nintendo one(pictured by another poster) the most striking with great images and art(it was also the smallest in page count).

The Peter Olafson book I recall liking a lot as well. Full color, lots of images, but written out a bit too literally as a walkthrough IIRC(whereas the Nintendo one is better for quick reference).

The third one was massive and unofficial. No art or images allowed, but it was jammed full of info. I think i recall it having some stuff the other two didnt(like a full bestiary), but really just get the Nintendo one if you need to have a guide.

Standard zips don't work.

.smc files don't work either, you need to add a new header and footer and convert to a .sfrom format.

But don't worry, the public tool will do all this behind the scenes. You'll just pick your standard .smc file and let it do the whole thing for you.

Glad to know that since my Retrode ripped all my library in .smc. That public tool seems really useful and well done. :)

So if I've kept up with the modding promises so far, we'll be able to do the following:

1. Add an extra 20 or so games
[...]
I'll never make use of savestates or the rewind feature so that means I should easily be able to add another 50+ games. Unless there's a limitation with the gui.

My list currently stands at

Super Godzilla
Chrono Trigger
Batman Returns
Death and Return of Superman
Turtles in Time

Super Star Wars
Super ESB
Super ROTJ
Mortal Kombat II
Killer Instinct
Knights of the Round and King of Dragons are also quite good 2 player beat'em ups.

Hard to help without knowing what steps you took to get Hakchi on there(and which version). My guess is either you missed a critical step or something went wrong in the process. It's easily possible to load 750+ games onto the system, so you shouldn't have that issue you are facing.

This much? I took hackchi2, downloaded it yesterday so probably the latest version. The ROMs are .nes
I just follow the steps asked by the software, dumped the original Kerned, then flash the custom one and upload games.
But when powering it on TV it kept saying C8 ERROR code until I dropped to only 6 games... :/

My list for games I want:

Chrono Trigger (of course!)
Ken Griffey Jr's Presents MLB.
Ken Griffey Jr.'s Winning Run
TMNT IV: Turtles in Time
Final Fantasy II
Donkey Kong Country II & III
Secret of Evermore
Pilotwings
Aladdin
Illusions of Gaia
Power Rangers

These are just some of them, but man, I have a lot of games to replay.

Chances are there was a problem with game #7. Try adding them back excluding that one.

Has anyone else tried the Hori wireless pad? I grabbed one yesterday after reading some good reviews and...I absolutely hate it. Don’t like the button layout and, I might just be crazy, but I swear it keeps missing my inputs on the directional pad. Guess I’m going to return it and wait for the 8bitdo wireless pad in December.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
Chrono Trigger and Uniracers are the only mandatory additions for me. I want to keep the full game count at 30 or less anyway, sort of makes the whole thing feel more authentic.

Illness is the doctor to whom we pay most heed; to kindness, to knowledge, we make promise only; pain we obey.
So far I only miss Chrono Trigger. Turtles in Time would be nice. Illusion of Gaia would be fun (but it has aged badly). Come on hackers.

My list:

-Super Mario All Stars
-Kirby's Avalanche
-Mortal Kombat 1,2,3 & Ultimate
-Earthworm Jim 1 & 2
-Pitfall
-Kirby's Dreamland 3
-Super Star Wars Trilogy
-Sunset Riders
-The Legend of Mystical Ninja
-Cybernator
-Metal Warriors
-Harvest Moon
-Donkey King Country 2 & 3
-Demon's Crest

That's all I'll be (hopefully) adding

Same. Been wanting to design some UI/background work, so this will be great practice. Just gotta find out the resolution/dimensions/etc., and I'll be throwing some up for sure.

retroarch has snes9x 2010 which would work, anything else would slowdown if the pi and its comparable specs are anything to go by. but i think you would have to load retroarch, the core and then the game every time, not exactly convenient.
