That would annoy me. Much rather have less games on there than ruin the GUI. Looks like I’ll have to make cuts to my list of games I wanted to add. 10 games is plenty though to get my favorites. At least I’ll get to add MMX2 and MMX3 with CX4 compatiblility confirmed.

My list of definite add ons:
- Mega Man X2
- Mega Man X3
- Chrono Trigger
- Donkey Kong Country 2
- Donkey Kong Country 3
- Killer Instinct
- Pilotwings

Possible to Add:
- Turtles in Time
- Doom
- Demons Crest
- ActRaiser
- Mega Man 7
- Dracula X
- Mario AllStars
- Earthworm Jim
- Earthworm Jim 2
- RType III
- NBA Jam Tournament Edition

Just need to move Actraiser, Turtles in Time and NBAJams up and add Final Fantasy II. What am I saying there’s more missing. So many good games on SNES.

Did I miss something in terms of hackability or are we just listing our future wish list of games to add?

Also, based on our knowledge of the NES Classic's space (and the SNES classiv having an identical boardset), how many games would it be able to hold in addition to the pre-loaded 21?

And just like that the employee stopped you from bugging him - calling again, going into the store, etc. for almost a month!

Everything he said was most likely BS, with the NES Mini the employees never knew in advance when units would come, except in a few special cases where they were holding them for a big release or it was the day or two before.

Awesome. I guess calling in stores is kind of a waste of time then also?

It feels the same as it did back then. I guess you're spoiled by Xbox controllers and Dual Shock 4s. I feel like every controller felt equally flimsy before those.

Totally agree, i have a bunch of rooms but I'm going to curate them down to a handful only. Too many games on the frontend would ruin it.

I microwave steaks.
I should but I don't, I just wasn't having fun with it.

I do own the Wii version and I will probably like that more...more so since Donkey Kong is in that game.

Ah damn it, guess I will just hide it then.

How many games can the SNES Mini classic hold then?

why would you hide a game, simply out of spite? lol

Nice, just needed to add one there :)

Lol, I never really played that (Tetris Attack). I’ll have to give it a shot. As for Final Fantasy II, I’m not a huge RPG fan so if I’m going to play one it’s going to trying Chrono Trigger a second time or FFIII since it’s considered one of the best (if not THE best) final fantasy game.

Are you me? This is pretty much my list to a T.
Haha, I’d be curious to see what you decide in the end. Let me know when you actually get the games on there when the hack comes out.

Feels quality as hell to me. It's light and the buttons are (deliberately) loose, but is made of quality plastic perfectly moulded.

It was Sega controllers and other companies' controllers that were the cheaper quality back in the day, made in various third world places with cheaper plastic while Nintendo was still 100% Japanese manufactured. Sega only really got to decent quality with the Saturn.

Since the pre-order s*tshow thread was closed, just want folks to know my Game UK order to the US was received today. 3 business days shipment from overseas for only 5 pounds, no complains here :)

If I'm being honest, I'm throwing as many games as I can on there.

I've been thinking about what's "missing" on the SNES Classic. Third party games need not apply, because obviously there are additional financial considerations there, and it's not super obvious those would have ever been on the cards.

So here's a list of US-published Nintendo first party games that did NOT make it on SNES Classic:

Missing:
Pilotwings, Super Tennis, Super Soccer (in JPN SFC Mini Classic but not the US SNES Classic), Super Play Action Football, Vegas Stakes, Super Mario All-Stars, Wario's Woods, Uniracers, Kirby Avalanche, Stunt Race FX, DKC2, Kirby's Dream Land 3, DKC3

Licensed:
SimCity, NCAA Basketball, NHL Stanley Cup, Ken Griffey Jr, Tetris & Dr. Mario, Tetris Attack, Ken Griffey Jr. 2,

Technical / Peripheral issues:
Technical limitations: Super Scope 6, Mario Paint, Battle Clash, Yoshi's Safari, Metal Combat, Tin Star

Potentially third party, rights issues, not re-released on VC either:
Illusion of Gaia

Looking at the first list, you can probably guess at why some stuff might be disqualified (the sports games are not great, Vegas Stakes has gambling, Super Mario All-Stars might be Mario overload and also they did the Wii retail release and it might be about protecting the game's value in some perverse way, Kirby Avalanche was probably deemed Kirby overload along with KDL3, DKC2 and DKC3 were probably excluded because the first game was more well known, Stunt Race FX is garbage.

But two conspicuous absences to me are Uniracers and Pilotwings, both of which are great games, technically supported, owned by Nintendo. Uniracers is 2P, which is an angle they're pushing with this. They're both well known. I'm really surprised!

I actually kinda forgot about Pilotwings. That is a pretty strange omission.

Yeah Pilotwings is really weird.

As much as I looooooooove NBA Jam and the first Ken Griffey games, there's no way they could re-release those because of the licenses.

Didn’t Uniracers have some bizarre copyright issues or a lawsuit that prevented further release?

There's an easy answer here:

Wikipedia said:
Shortly after the game's release, DMA Design was sued by Pixar for allegedly copying the unicycle design and concept from their 1987 short film Red's Dream. Mike Dailly, one of the developers at DMA Design, commented, "The problem with Pixar was that they seemed to think that any computer generated unicycle was owned by them." DMA Design lost the lawsuit, and as a result, Nintendo had to terminate production of further Unirally cartridges. According to Dailly, "The deal was that Nintendo wouldn't make any more carts so Unirally only sold the 300k initial run".[2]

I agree with Stumpy, not sure why they didn't put in at least 25 or 30 games in there. Tetris and Dr. Mario, Tetris Attack since the Super Famicom Mini got Panel De Pon, Final Fantasy II, heck maybe even U.N. Squadron, Gradius or R-Type.

Many of these have clear reasons.

Uniracers/Unirally has a copyright issue, Pixar sued them for 'stealing' the concept of a CGI unicycle.
Kirby's Avalanche is Puyo, a third party game.
There are already two Kirby games on the system
Mario All Stars is a compilation of games that were on the NES Mini
Stunt Race FX, Vegas Stakes, Wario's Woods are all pretty low value.

Super Tennis is a big omission, as is Pilotwings, and a lot of people would probably like DKC2 too.

You're confusing "light" with "cheap". Xbox and PS4 controllers have a ton of things that add a lot of weight (motors, batteries, etc). The plastic is on par with modern controllers and the buttons feel very solid and react perfectly. I've never felt I've died in a game due to the controller or any missed button inputs.

Actually they are a frew grams lighter for whatever reason.

Modern materials that PCB are made of versus the older.

Despite being published by Nintendo over here, Super Tennis was just a random Japanese sports title from Tonkin House. The view from Japan, or even outside of it, it might not look like as core of a Nintendo first party title as it would have appeared to western markets back then.

honestly, 21 games for the price of $80 is a bargain. it seems greedy to even think of wanting more.

FF2US is not worth rereleasing in any form. The translation was awful, the fact that we lost a ton of features was awful, and although the story holds up as well as could be expected, it's lagging behind nearly every other release.

Maybe we'll see the superior FF4A on the GBACE. Or DSCE in another 10 years.

I guess you’ve come too acquainted with controllers filled with motors, gyroscopes, batteries, antennas, the cure for cancer, etc...

A barebones controller like the SNES’ oughta feel abnormally light in comparison.

Yep, but from my experience it was a popular, memorable title due to playing so well.

But then I guess including one sports game kind of opens floodgates.

Whew. USPS finally managed to get this delivered today. Shocking since it was in the 'major metro USPS distribution center' on the 28th but then was cluster fucking for the last few days.

Haven't cracked it open yet but is there a key combo on the controller that takes you to the main dashboard so you can use save slots and stuff or do you still have to hit the reset button? If there's a hack I'll do that.

Watching my gf play play Super Mario World is like watching an elderly person drive.

Hah! I know exactly what you mean.

Flashback to PAL gamers bitching about the inclusion of Tecmo Bowl on NES Classic.

If there's ever an N64 Mini I'll be positively floored if it has Pilotwings 64 on it. But I don't think they can still get away with using the Allwinner R16 chip on it.

Do we know about how many games we can add re space? 10-15?

iirc SMW comes to like, 3.5 mbs zipped? space available is @ 300mbs. but saves take about .5 mb so you don't want to fill it too much....I would venture you could double the game lineup easily but you wouldn't want to go too crazy

The big omissions in my eyes are Pilotwings and DKC2. I'm honestly kind of shocked they aren't on here, to be honest. Chrono Trigger is kind of a glaring omission as well, but it's a third party game, so I'm less bothered by it.

Overall though, the collection of games on this thing is incredibly strong.

So glad to see you list Sim City. I want that on my Classic bad.

Mario World was 4-megabit game, so just 512 Kilobytes. The SNES Mini should have around 300 Megabytes available. I think an additional 50 to 80 games is doable

Wow, the first minecart level in Donkey Kong Country 1 was a ROYAL PAIN. Playing in co-op mode it took us 15+ tries and 1-2 game overs. Nothing in the game was really an issue before that. The second half of the level is comically long compared to the first, there's a hard-to-hit KONG letter and a dangerous-to-attempt extra life and that seems to be it. No DK barrels, no more checkpoints, and many tight timing jumps are instakill if you fail them so even having a partner doesn't help. Each time we would finally make it further and think we've succeeded, the game would throw another awkwardly placed instant death ramp, slow track segment followed by a last-minute jump, or sudden enemy minecart.

And once you finally beat it? You can't save until you beat 1-2 more levels after that. :p It felt like the designer was screwing with us.

On the plus side, it's crazy how smooth everything feels even at high speed in DKC1. I get the impression RARE really knew what they were doing on the hardware compared to other SNES games, though perhaps it's actually an illusion because DKC1 uses fewer sprites or something.

With 25 or 30 games it might have sold out on the first day of release even.

Pilotwings isn't on there because it is a waste of space.

889243 (not sure about this one, may be 882943)

I haven't played Pilotwings in over 10 years, I still have the helicopter level codes memorized. Game was awesome near launch. I plan on playing them again when I finish my SNESCE games. I wouldn't memorize those codes as a kid if I didn't enjoy the game to hell and back.
