So I'll only be able to start playing mine this weekend and wondered if any of you kind people could recommend any co-op games?

Secret of Mana is probably the defacto co-op experience on the consolse. Two players (I'm not sure that there's a way to add a third person in this version) can each control one of the three characters. Just be warned that you do have to complete the first part of the game solo before you pick up a second character.

So, are there any good wireless controllers I can buy now? The 8bitdo looks good but it's not available until December. :(

8bitdo's regular wireless SNES controller coupled with an NES Classic receiver will work. Just update the firmware on the receiver when you get it.

This is more expensive than the upcoming bundle, but the controller you buy is Bluetooth syncable to any device. The bundled version will only sync with the receiver it comes with.

It sure is! Oh and just to put any fears aside, the translation works too.

Wonderful. I'm thinking the fan translation might be the first game I add/play through once the modding tools are available. It'll be my first time.

Kirby Super Star.

This. Honestly from a co-op perspective, there aren't a lot of great options on the classic sadly, as for some reason they chose not to include any beat em ups on the best beat em up console of all time :(. So yeah, Super Star, Contra, and Mana are your best co-op choices if you don't wanna do the take turns shit.

Yup. Shame Mystical Ninja is SFC mini only because that's another good one as well.

(at least until the things easily modable)

I picked this up and I was wondering how long the charge holds? I do not have my SNES Classic yet, but I do plan on putting the receiver inside the box like some others did if I can.

Do you only need to update the receiver?

Charge lasts for 15+ hours.

You need to update the receiver. You should update the controller (because there's not much reason to stay on older firmwares, and some lag issues have been resolved.)

Not only that, it's really one of the coolest technical show cases on the 'base' SNES. Beautiful colors, lots of content/mini games, fast action, and even has textured polygons on several levels all without using any special chips and fitting in an 8mbit cartridge. Released pretty early in the system's life.

Thank you :)

Do note, Mana is not multiplayer from the start. The first hour (or longer if you're an exploration type) so your buddy my be bored waiting. Or you can do some pre-playing till you get a second character then give your friend the cliff notes on the opening.

Just got my SNES classic from Walmart.

Am I imagining it or are these SNES classic controllers thicker than the original SNES controllers?

Seriously? I thought these were thicker and smaller too.

Fortunately, the controllers aren't subject to the same form-over-function criticism. The truth is you'd be hard pressed to tell them apart from the originals — they probably went back to the original molds. And like the NES CE's controllers, the feel is spot-on: the buttons and gamepad have the same look and feel, although the latter is a bit stiffer on the new ones. Probably because it hasn't been mashed for 20 years straight.

Besides that original one looking worse for wear over the years.

The title of the thread is out of date and misleading.

There were people in this very thread talking about mods. From what I can see it is hackable right now, but it's difficult to do and it's suggested to wait for a better release.

If you need to ask if you can mod it already, then you're not ready to mod it with the tools available now.

Some F-Zero gameplay.

Also, does anything feel like the D-pad sucks? For me, when I'm holding down, down-left or down-right registers and it messes me up. I seem to screw up a lot in F-Zero when jumping off the ramps. Then out of no where, my racer goes off the track and explodes... its pretty frustrating 😡

I think I got the second character in 15 mins. Of course this is not my first playthrough.

I'd actually recommend against Secret of Mana. The first 45 minutes bored us to tears since one person can't do anything, the text is slow and very hard to read, the characters tell you very repetitive things, and early environments consist of tons of the same enemy spammed at you with little or no secrets to find as far as I can tell.

Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country 1, and the Kirby minigame cartridge besides the Gourmet race, all provide more immediate and interactive fun in my opinion. Super Mario Kart and Kirby let both players play simultaneously as well.

I commented before but my post got lost in the rush. Did anyone else find DKC1's first minecart level to be a massive pain? It was almost comically evil in the second half between no more checkpoints, no DK barrels, and a bunch of last-second obstacles right after a speed change.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
Walmart 8/25 order came! No time to play now unfortunately, but am excited for when I can.

I opened mine up and looked at everything. Them concave buttons feel on the US version feel so right.

I've still got it. I can't believe I started up Super Ghouls n Ghosts and could still remember the chest locations, platform timing, etc. Felt good for an old fart like myself.

Then I destroyed my kid at Super Street Fighter II using all the cheapest moves. He didn't know what hit him.

He's in the process of getting sucked into Final Fantasy VI.

This thing is awesome.

How is it? I knew of its existence, but like many of the late-SNES, Japanese-only Square games (Treasure Hunter G is another) I haven't really played it.

Kirby Super Star.

This would me my recommendation as well. It's just a joy to play in co-op.

Seriously? I thought these were thicker and smaller too.

Your hands have grown since then! :D

Textured polygons? Where?

You are just used to other controllers which have different Dpad positions. It has happened to me too when I use different controllers.

The controller definitely feels slightly different but also the exact same probably due to being brand new.

Are these similar to the club nintendo japan super famicom controllers?

Yep, exactly the same feel. I got a Club Nintendo Europe one.

(Now if only there was a third socket for SoM three player..)

yeah so, is it total conclusion only 2 controllers ever? nba jam and that would be really good with that, it sucks you can't get more than 2 with the default and probably even the hack

i didn't know where to post this, so i will post it here

someone made mini SNES using pi zero and pi2
however, this is not an ordinary mod case, he made NFC tagged SNES cartridge and can be inserted on the console it self and you can play them,

jump to 12:30

also Game Boy player for SNES that play gameboy or gameboy color games (that actually are NFC tagged cartridge)

that's really cool, even the eject button works.

Hoo boy, super Mario kart has not aged well at all. It feels absolutely terrible
In what situations should you use the L and R jump? I feel like they behave slightly differently, with one turning more sharply than the other, though that seems unlikely. There doesn't seem to be any power slide or turbo like later games, so I can't figure out a good use for jumping besides going around a sharp U-turn.

I do miss the massive feather shortcuts from that game though.

I searched every review of the SNES Mini for a lag comparison between a raspberry pi 3 with Recalbox or Retropie versus the SNES Mini. Some people say that the raspberry pi introduces several frames of delay during play. Is this really the truth?

Yeah, it seriously makes me miss the controls of future games, mainly the drifting. & I say this as someone whose first (or 2nd) Mario Kart was the SNES one. I imagine battle mode might still be fun for a laugh.

Regarding F-zero, I've never played the first one - what are the game mechanics and controls?

I gather B is accelerate, A is boost (of which you get one per lap), Y is....brake? and X is also brake?

L/R are bank tighter for those respective turns? OR do they do nothing? and no attacks that I'm aware of?

Only played the later F-zeros.
