Splatoon 2 |OT2| From Smallfry to FlyFish in 5 Easy Steps!

I've been playing this game off an on since launch, I just got S rank in all three ranked modes (and I'm only level 20, regional matchmaking and no Japanese players is the reason I guess lol) and I think the first game is better. I could swear the first game ran a little faster, I have no proof for that but Splatoon 2 just feels a tad slower and not as fluid as the first one. Or my memory is playing tricks on me.

Then the new maps, they are simply too small! The game almost feels claustrophobic. I'd like to know the reasoning for this. It's on a much more powerful system now, I don't get why they would make the maps smaller.

I hate the new specials, they are lame and underwhelming. E.g. there was so much you could do with the killer wail in the first game. It was awesome and a lot of fun to use. The sting ray is just utter shit in comparison. I guess they thought the specials were too powerful in the first game, but it never felt unbalanced to me, and they just were a lot more fun to use.

And finally, to echo several posts above, they need to get rid of the regional matchmaking. It often takes too long to fill a lobby, this is Splatoon, it should be instant.

Still a great game, and salmon run is an awesome addition, but I enjoyed the first one more.

The new maps is my only complaint. They are, for the most part, so bad. I want Ancho-V Games and Walleye Warehouse back.

Splatoon 2 has a lower tickrate. Though i have not noticed the jankiness because even though the tickrate is lower, my internet connection is better than the ones i used to play S1.

People can't even settle on which maps were the best of S1. And when you poll them, you get Moray Towers, and people complain about it. I think it's unfair to compare the whole S1 set of maps to S2 now. I don't think it's that obvious that S2 maps are that much worse than S1 ones at the same point of time.

It's really bad, though, and that's even if you have a perfect internet connexion. There's a bit of randomness in each 1 vs 1.

I've tried googling this and haven't had much luck: has anyone else had issues when connecting to friends on the same wifi network? We couldn't get three people in the same game on the same network (connection error on join), but I switched to 4G hotspot and we all connected with no issues.

No, Squid Research Lab is saying

"You wanna beat the splattershots? Use the splattershot PRO!"

That weapon class got such a godlike buff. Shot velocity increased by 67%?!?!?!?!

Then people think it's OP and ask for a nerf, so Nintendo nerf it in the next patch and give splattershot some small buffs. Seriously, other weapons that's heavily used in 1.3.0 like aerospray and sloshing machine all get some good nerf, while splattershot, the most used and the most powerful weapon, is barely touched.

Well, Nintendo said next update is about system update in late Nov, so there's that. If people think this update is bad they'll need to wait for Dec.

I honestly think this is the best patch. It brings several weapons back to their former status at the end of Splatoon 1 (96. gal, Mini Splatling, Splash-o-matic) while bringing forth some really good changes like Splattershot PRO (omg).

Still unsure about the rollers, but the Flingza got a decent amount of changes. Not expecting it to be a powerhouse, but it should be more fun to use.

edit: Yes the splattershots will still be king, but with more weapons elevated to keep up the game's meta will be healthier overall. Now if only they'd change the matchmaking back...

Yeah... nerf so many things form S1 to S2 and buff them back patch by patch...

It's nice to see the next splatfest not becoming an RG fest, but nerf aerospary's turfing ability is pretty hilarious.

And I should learn .96, and wait for .52deco.

Tried to use Google translate to catch some of the changes but

N-ZAP:

Like the bold marker and Wakaba shooter, we changed to a type of bukkake with a fast walking speed and squid dash speed when not shooting.

Translated Weapon changes in the v1.4.0 patch notes by yours truly. Enjoy!

*There is a lot more in the patch to go through; I just have other things to do for now*
PLEASE NOTE: I Translated the 52 GAL buff twice. It's the same thing repeated a different way

As an Aerospray main, good. RG became a goddamn nightmare with the baller buffs and both guns were still way too efficient.

I do like that they dropped the cost of the Curling Bomb Launcher to 160 though, lol.

The Pro buffs and the NZAP buffs seem crazy at first glance though.

Love the Splattershot Pro and 96 Gal buffs, although was surprised they didn't buff the Jet Squelcher's speed too. Good to see they're addressing some of the long-ranged shooters. It's also cool to see that they're bringing back the Run Speed Mini Splatlings and NZaps. They never did feel as fun in this game. Am surprised they buffed the 52 Gal. It's just the 3-shot range increased a little, but I thought that episode was already way improved by the Baller change.

Really interested in seeing how the Dualie Squelchers play. It's still going to have that obnoxious randomness at range, but it will paint more consistently and be more mobile now. The inconsistent paint spread at my feet was always the most annoying thing to play about that weapon.

More Clash buffs.

Good...good...

I said I wasn't going to touch Flingza again until if got buffed...well jere we are. I like the sound of those changes (that horizontal flick attack range buff was pretty much exactly what I felt it needed) and the mobility change sounds intriguing. I'm positive the weapon will still be outclassed by most stuff but maybe it can at least feel a little better to use now while still racking up losses.

No major changes to splattershot or splashdown...guess it's a Vanilla meta from now until whenever still. I don't know if they're assuming that other weapon buffs will be tempting enough on their own but I dunno. I don't think the sloshing machine really needed the nerf it got.

Wonder if more people will actually use Drop Roller now, post-patch. I could see a set with that and some quick super jump being paired with a splashdown weapon leading to some pretty interesting mixups.

Also...NA probably gets the best/most appropriate Splatfest theme? I'm not immediately very fond of either option myself, though. No love for mummies? My first reaction is leaning werewolf mostly because I'm kinda sick of vampires. Dunno though. They're both a little tired to me.

I like how the baller buff included raising its HP a ton, and now everything else is getting patched to increase the damage to it.

Regardless, all the other changes are pretty significant too. I'll have to revisit my gear builds to take advantage of special power up, I guess.

I got excited at the mini splatling changes until I realised it was the MINI splatling and not the heavy
(seriously though, where's the Hydra? I want my Hydra :p)

It's really interesting to see them speeding up the standard brella to give it a greater sense of identity compared to it's larger tenta relative. Also interesting that the tenta looks like it might have that horrible, crippling delay after shooting reduced, though the patch only mentions movespeed, not the squid lockout it seems to have, but we'll see.

Likewise, I'm intrigued by the carbon going to full speed much faster, a change none of the other rollers got :3
Dynamo doesn't seem like it got a buff I'd say it needed, unless that angling change is more significant than I expect

Thanks for these translations every time there's a patch Toadsili, it's hugely appreciated. I don't know about anyone else but It'd take me ages to try and decipher the original japanese notes myself with my meager knowledge of nihongo :3

Oh hey, splatoon is now Twilight :p

In fairness, while not a direct weapon buff, they did improve the effect of using Run Speed with all splatlings, which was already a pretty common loadout. I already run probably 23 points or so with my Heavy sets so I'm looking forward to that.

That baller nerf. I never really felt like it was over powered or so, but going by the list, it seems I was wrong... Because damn!

I played that entire two hour session.

And only got the new stage twice. Just kill me.

Edit: Holy shit, why does every single goddamn stage in this game have to be full of slopes?? I'm so fucking sick of it.

The new map is pretty fun. The river and the more condensed feel of it leads to it feeling really different to the other maps.
