Could Black Panther surpass Terminator 2?

Now that I think of it, I could put Blade 2 on the same pedestal as T2. It was that good.

That first one is still enjoyable but mannnnnn some of that cgi is bad, but the second one is good stuff all around. Horribly underated.

It's another marvel movie. All their movies follow the same formulas. I think Black Panther will be good but we will have forgotten about it after a week. Like every marvel movie.
T2 is a goddamn classic. A perfect action movie. There's no such thing as "surpass". T2 sits high on top along predator and die hard.

Is that a common opinion that blade 2 is on T2 level?

Idk if anybody said it's on t2 level here. Maybe I missed it, I think it's just reguarded as very under rated. Especially considering it is a super hero movie.

But like others have said T2 is the king.

What a strange premise for a thread. Terminator 2 is untouched 27 years after it was released, and its impact altered the landscape of the medium, the industry, and audience expectations for an entire generation. Black Panther is the 18th film in a series designed by committee to be disposable, and is scheduled by its creators to be forgotten on May 4th, in favour of the 19th film in the series. So, no, the odds aren't looking good for it.

Edit:
Not gonna waste the opportunity to post T2 gifs:

Now i know alot of you thinking, what the heck is this guy talking about well let me explain In the recent black panther spot..there is a scene where the Wakandian Dora Milaje, Okoye an elite warrior says "Guns so primitive" and uses her advanced spear to destroy her enemy

it's interesting to learn that Africans saw guns as primitive weapons when Europeans came over, and they were not really effective weapons

I would like to see a Red Dead without the primitive weapons...no guns, i would like to see a Red Dead that uses more skillful weapons, preferably melee weapons like spears

the recent screenshot dissapointed me when it showed Arthur with a revolver

I know it might be impossible for many, but i was hoping we would get a new type of Red Dead

Dutch, Arthur and the rest of the crew without guns

Just thought I would quote you from the gaming discussion, since this is the same thread.

T2 is all time great. So probably not. To be honest I'm super-fatigued by the Marvel super-saturation regardless. I may not even bother watching Infinity War at all. Logan was good though. And Deadpool.

T2 has better CGI for one.

Super hero movie fatigue for second

What the...

That looks... really not good.

It would be great if Black Panther can top T2 - which means it would be an awesome movie.
I'm always up for another awesome movie - because it won't make T2 any worse. Two awesome movies are better than one! :)

Everyone seems to forget Blade, probably one of my favourite Marvel Characters.
As for the Op's question.
Probably T3 based on the trailers, but T2? Nah

not an idiot
Yeah, the original Blade is amazing. T2 is an alltime classic that stands the test of time. Nothing I've seen in BP makes me think it will be anything more than all of the other stuff Marvel is putting out there. Which is to say it's "ok i guess"

Mister Apoc, if Black Panther threw a non-primitive spear faster then the speed of reality, would it tear a wormhole in the space time continuum and make Wakanda real?

I mean... Black Panther looks to be awsome awesome 👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿

But come on, Marvel movies are not made to be the pinnacle of action cinema, let’s be real. They follow a formula, and they are popular and entertaining, awesome many of them.

But T2 was such an achievment. So well paced. Great composition. But more than that, they’re so disparate categories even though they’re action, they’re fantasy. I don’t know if you guys will understand me, you know?

While we're all (rightly) jabbing Mister Apoc for all his seeming lack of ability to not post dumb ass thread topics he's the one having the last laugh and pulling in more thread replies and traffic than anyone else since the site's implosion.

Is Mister Apoc to Neogaf what Newton's Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica was to science?

Is HE the Black Panther to our Terminator 2?

Time will tell, friends. Time will tell.

I wish the mods could put this under Mr Apoc's name. I mean all of it.

Nope. Blade 2 was under-appreciated and a very entertaining movie, but that is not quite the same as saying it is being on T2 level. I need to rewatch it, but I would not be surprised if Blade 2 would still be better (and more interesting) than most of the recent Marvel (and DC) output. Blade absolutely kicks ass and Wesley Snipes deserves a monument (IMHO).

Also, Black Panther is not as highly rated as Paddington 2, which is now officially best movie of all time ever. Suck on that, Citizen Kane.

It only confirms that movie critics are a joke nowadays.

T2 according to rt is a good as The Last Jedi and Thor Ragnarok, and according to metacritic as good as Thor but much worse than the Last Jedi. These people are either shills or complete morons. Thor's sheer mediocrity and ability to be THAT forgettable is the only thing noteworthy about the movie and don't get me started on TLJ.

how can you guys simply say its completely forgettable mcu trash?

Wakanda is an Afro-futurist country that is breaking new ground in superhero cinema

I made a quick text search on the 3 pages of this thread, and you are the only person who wrote the word "trash", so I do wonder where you read people calling it MCU trash, since it has clearly not been here? Most people here actually think it could do rather well compared to other MCU movies.

I really can't tell if Mister Apoc has been trolling us or not all this time. If he is it's good because there's some room for plausible deniability there.

Obvious troll.

We all know Paddington 2 is the best film of all time.

I was able to see an early preview of BP and I would rate it slightly above Ant-Man. Most definently not up there with the best, let alone even allowed to sniff T2's ass.

There's an obvious bias with the reviews if we're going to be honest here for "breaking ground" just from reading some of them.

Yeah I still wonder what criteria you have to meet to get featured on RT. I know they have 2 separate categories, all critics and top critics. But it seems all one needs to do is have a website that features film reviews and you get the participation trophy.

Film critics were always a joke though

I read some film reviews in the papers when I was in India, they rated mostly the choreography and quality of the songs. How does BP hold up in this aspect?

I’ll no doubt get around to watching this at some point. Probably when it hits Netflix and I have nothing better to watch. Par for the course for Marvel fare.

TBH I hardly go out of my way to watch any modern films these days.

I’m in the process of going through my 50’s/60’s sci-fi collection again. Fabulous! Like comfort food for the brain.

Can't really believe this is a topic that people are giving legitimate arguments to...but I guess I'll throw my hat into the fray.

True statement: T2 is one of the greatest action films of all time.

Also a true statement: T2 has been surpassed as an action film by tons of movies, notably, The Raid, The Matrix, John Wick, and The Winter Soldier.

Will Black Panther be the greatest film of all time? Well, it has stiff competition from the likes of Blade Runner, The Empire Strikes Back, Alien, A Space Odyss-- look the point is no, it won't be the greatest film of all time, and do for comic book movies what T2 did for action films. But with THIS cast, and THIS subject matter? The movie is guaranteed to be a financial success, and also it looks pretty damned awesome from what I could glean from the trailers. You can't have an amazing cast like this and produce a shit film, I'm sorry but that's not how acting works.

I know 'The Internet' these days is trying its damnedest to be contrarian (saying The Last Jedi sucked, Bright was a 'good' film, and eating Tide Pods), but if this movie is anywhere near what Marvel has produced recently (Thor:R!) it'll already do something T2 never could: make movie studios realize Black faces not belonging to Denzel, Will, Sam or Morgan can be profitable in lead roles, and that alone will make it far more revolutionary than T2.

I kind of hate to say this, cause it may look bad, but Black Panther suffers from if you don’t give it a good rating, you are Hitler syndrome. I’ll hold my judgement until seeing it instead of taking the critics ratings at face value. Star Wars: TLJ let me down despite its glowing reviews.
