School shooting in Santa Fe, TX; the 22nd school shooting so far in 2018

There is no easy solution to this problem The solution will either be extremely expensive or politically controversial. They either have to put armed guards in every school which will cost billions or severely reduce the number of guns. Not sure if either one has any chance of happening.

What would you suggest America or US schools do then? Without going with, "take all the guns away." In America, that just won't ever happen.

Here are 7 simple steps to help eliminate school shootings ~ https://townhall.com/columnists/kev...eliminate-school-shootings-overnight-n2450380

Hearing reports on the radio in the office that there were three armed guards at this school in Santa Fe. Death count up to ten.

Ugh.

This has to stop. Thoughts and prayers are not enough. Twenty-fucking-two shootings, and it's only the middle of May.

The Second Amendment calls for a "well-regulated" militia. Why aren't our armed citizens more regulated?
As others have stated, this is what the main stream media need you to focus on and you are, it's called conditioning. Where is your rage at the countless black on black killings that happen daily? You don't seem to mind those too much.

He's been conditioned to believe that even bringing that up makes him racist...

Hey, maybe make your own thread?

Because the NRA wants to sell more firearms and with increased fear more people will buy.

Also, the government wants to save money and with more+more kids being homeschooled, they'll save money on education.

The NRA doesn't sell guns, it's basically civil liberties group that is comprised of membership paid by American Citizens to represent and protect our RIGHTS.

What does this have to do with school shootings? I like how we conveniently forget that prisons are full of black people and that black on black killings do not go unpunished.
School shooters go unpunished? I'm not following the logic...

But w/e we're waaaay off topic there lol...

Fuck, then they failed at doing their job. There needs to be training and then more training, so guards have the ability to respond quickly and effectively. Yeah that's not a good look for the armed guards solution if indeed that's true. Will wait and see what happened there.

No one said that. It seems like any time people want to "rage" about something someone always asks, "well what about black on black crime?" Like marches and rallies don't happen for inner city crime or something. Like black criminals aren't going to jail.

Literally nothing can be done to stop this kind of thing from happening

Completely untrue. Look at the link I posted above. Also we just have to look at how Israel actually stopped their attacks in the same way.

Need to look at why this type of stuff wasn't happening 50 years ago. "Ban guns" isn't the real answer and doesn't solve the actual cause.

I mean...armed guards everywhere is a win for everyone right?!

More jobs! More guns! More safety! o_O
Man, I would understand this mindset if guns were a personal defense system where you can press a button and cast a barrier that stops projectiles and other guns from entering it's area of effect.

Or maybe if guns were gun detecting machines where you can activate a gun and your gun will alert you if another gun is nearby.

But that's not what guns are.

As it stands, guns are only designed for killing a thing you want to kill, or killing a thing you don't want to be killed by. And that thing needs to be standing in front of you.

An armed guard won't stop a mass shooting. People walk past armed police with illegal firearms in their possession on an hourly basis, let alone the legal firearms so many mass shootings are carried out with.

By the time a shooter enters a school, they probably already casually walked by hundreds or thousands of people (including police or people who would be hired as guards) who could NEVER possibly be expected to know what they are carrying or what they are going to do

An armed guard can halt a shooter, but by that time the fact that they're a shooter means children are already died.

Again, I could understand if guns had some bullet stopping/deflecting capabilities, but....

Why not? Republicans want a complete abortion ban right?

Republicans want a Planned Parenthood expansion? Or to shut them all down
So your solution is to take the guns away? Leaving the people who obtain them LEGALLY to suffer the effects of criminals who will still get them illegally?

It saddens me this disease of school shootings can seep into even a small town like Santa Fe,Tx. Having been to the city myself it's exactly the type of place you'd never expect this to happen. Thoughts & prayers are with the people affected by this tragedy. As Texans we'll get past this stronger. It hurts right now.

Your guns won't save you from the government -- not while the US government is in control of the largest and most advanced military in the entire world. The army has drones that can come in through the window and kill you in your sleep. They can follow you to the ends of the earth.

If we ever took up arms against the federal government, we would all die so damn fast they wouldn't even be able to call it a war. It'd just be a straight massacre.

It's funny. They always talk about needing their guns to fight off their tyrannical government while in the same breath worshipping their military industrial complex and police state and constantly voting to increase the military budget, arm their police with even greater firepower, while telling everyone to worship the troops and police.

They also constantly brag about having the most powerful military in the world who is unstoppable but swear they could stop the military with their handguns and AR-15s. So we're to believe these people would fight off the giant military that they worship and give a huge amount of their tax money to? lol okay

Either you have the most powerful military in the world or you don't.

Those weren't sources for anything... like at all. There was no data in them that showed how bad the US is and why...
It was a ranking list which clearly showed you are wrong.

But let's see your sources which back up your claims or even opinions.

With guns. It's called a deterent. The government wants to rule us, not murder us. They can't rule us so long as we have guns. They can't murder us because then they'd have nobody to rule. How can a goverment run without taxpayers to support them? It's pretty simple stuff dude...

This is lol material IMO.

Citizen ownership of guns has no impact as to what actions the government takes. Like the person stated, the technology and force of the government would wipe out the citizens with guns with such ease wouldn’t even be a contest much less a real deterrent of anything. It’s not muskets and having shoot outs in the forests and fields of America anymore.

It doesn’t happen because well, you hope there’s enough sane people in charge to not go killing their citizens, though with crazy enough people in charge, it happens.

Frequency exaggerates the problem, but the problem has always been here.

The best bet is to offer help and counseling and make an impact on every student and every generation. You have to make everyone care.

Can i get the exact methodology of the ranking list? or does it just say we asked a bunch of left wing people to rank the freest countries?

These are my thoughts as well.

Cyberbullying adds a new level of fuckery to your everyday schoolyard bullying, too. Now kids can't get the fuck away, even at home. We probably shouldn't be surprised at the uptick of frequency of these things, honestly.

None of those things would do anything to deter someone that wants to kill people from doing so. And all of those things implemented would make a school seem more like a concentration camp than an actual school.

And guns don't necessarily have to be used to kill lots of people. At my high school people would hang out in the parking lot before and after school is pretty large groups. It wouldn't be hard for a deranged person to just get in a car or truck and plow into them. What's the course of action for stopping something like that? You just go down a slippery slope of rules and regulations that get more and more absurd.

These tragedies are a symptom of something else that should be studied and addressed

The slippery slope is lack of implementing actionable things that have PROVEN results I.E. my Israel comment, and the link that offers real solutions, not inaction and platitudes of which continue to solve nothing. Also "what ifs" that happen outside the school are just a deflection to the subject being discussed (which is deterrence and action). Those are still concerns nevertheless of which have ways to be addressed. But trying to deflect doesn't help the conversation of what can actually be DONE right now.

Either you have the most powerful military in the world or you don't.

That's a conflation of two different things. A tyrannical government and a strong military I would argue wouldn't be directly a problem together in this case. Especially when the military is comprised of the same citizens serving their country/fellow man and would fight against said tyrannical government BEFORE it's own citizenry, to you know, keep America free....

I think underlying motives need to be assessed something in society has changed that is causing these shootings to happen at such frequencies. Columbine was a shock to the nation back when it happened and now 20 years later we have a Columbine equivalent every few months. Something is driving students toward mass killings.

Israel has a population less than New York City and is a Jewish Ethnostate where it's easier to implement stuff like this. The US is a much larger and more diverse place where the same approach isn't going to work the same everywhere.

Stop with this fucking Alex Jones bullshit.

I know people who work at local and national news organizations. I live next-door to a guy gets interviewed on NPR/CNN/ABC every six months or so (He wrote part of the affordable care act). The grown-up world is not some fucking movie. A bunch of kids getting shot up in a school is fucking newsworthy in any universe.

They had a liaison officer. That's not the same as armed guards IN the schools. But yes that's just one possible solution.

People in the US are disgusted at the thought of paying for socialised healthcare what makes you think they want to pay for armed guards?

Excellent points and I agree on most of it, I just differ with on not being able to implement them. Yes the cost is an issue but if we can protect banks, airports etc. we have to be able to incur the costs to protect children without fail...somehow...anyhow.
