Having dissenting opinions is good. It needs to be shown that a number of people simply do not care about any perceived, non existent sleights that are being leveled at them via a bloody hashtag used in an unoffensive manner. However, that doesn't roll with the "I AM ALWAYS OFFENDED" that tend to plague that site and run its moderation team.

Which you already know.

No, dismissal of transphobia is more than different opinions. It's something that actively perpetuates the behaviours that encourage transphobia.

I don't see any excuse for it.
Depends on whether you consider the post to be:
1. not caring about transphobia
2. considering the outrage to be over the top

I'm in the second camp - that it's not enormously clever but hardly transphobic and the shitstorm is overblown. The thing is they've cried wolf so often that it will bite them eventually. As Claus observes, it's healthy to hear dissenting opinions.

Of course, it depends if the judgement is consistent and if f the post is actually dismissing. There are plenty of examples ITT of bans for dismissal of X when the post was much more reasonable than the ban suggests. This is one of the biggest flaws of the Era mod staff currently, their seeming overly emotional entanglement with their duties.

It understand it, many of the staff are minorities and LGBT folk who are ties of the constant down smisal of their rights and concerns, but I don't think people like this make good staff.

So did they ban the person who Doxxed the CDPR employee?

The employee was not doxxed. The idiot revealed the employees name, which certainly is poor form, but the alt-right's insistence that the employee was doxxed only goes to show how far out of touch it is.

We need an enemy that is as bad as we are! Blame them of the things we are accused of!

The Alt Right? Pretty sure that accusation was in a YouTube video someone linked. Pretty sure that you tuber wasn’t Alt Right.

Can you link to the post that revelled the info if you have it easily to hand please? Or is it easy to find last few pages?

It's on ResetEra, some dude wrote a long post saying "after a bit of research, the dude in charge of the twitter is <insert name>." Which is, of course, definitely not cool or ok.

But then you have people equating that to people sharing stuff like physical address. "The left is just as bad as the GamerGators! They doxx too, they are just as bad as us."

I mean, at this point, the complete lack of any substance to the alt right outside of the "well the left isn't perfect!" straw grasping is reaching comical levels. It is so bad you have people claim to be "centrists" instead of proudly standing behind the alt right they go to bat for night-in and night-out.

So researching to find out who this person was and publicly releasing their name isn’t doxxing? Call it whatever you want. Was there a ban for it?

I fully agree there's a scale here that shouldn't be ignored in the overall conversation, but if the policy is doxing to include ANY personal information, and as the ban lists "detective work" as a reason for a ban in that leaked mod chat image, I think there needs to be some consistency here.

I don't know and don't care, I'm not as fascinated about the inner workings of ResetEra as you lot are. I'm very comfortable with who I am and what I believe in.

Your previous post seems to say otherwise. And that’s exactly why I asked in this thread, because the people who participate in it seem to know what’s going on.

Sure. I mean we all already know ResetEra was formed by hypocrites, I'm not sure why the fact that they tolerate stuff that they shouldn't because it is aligned with them matters here.

Both Gaf and Era are complete jokes, at least Era is comfortable with that fact.

Gaf has many of the inherent issues as Era, I agree. The only real difference here so far is the higher ban tolerance.

However, that alone is a pretty big one. I get to converse with people I wouldn't be able to on Era, and that has potential to lead to some interesting dissensions.

You framed it by using the word doxx very liberally because it fits your agenda. I called you out your lack of intellectual honesty. That's all that is going on.

Getting banned here is about as opaque as it was back before ERA in my case. I got banned because I had "been warned before" which was 100% false. The ban message also made it very clear who wrote it and that it was nothing but spite.

Thing is, I don't care and wasn't blameless so I just took it and moved on. Unlike a lot of the alt-righters on here who at first said "I don't want politics in my video games" and are now "it's all political! Hidden agenda! Culture wars!".

So I’m making up the definition of a dox now? Lol. I asked if they were banned. That’s all.

I didn’t make up the word Dox, it’s definition, how it’s used today or anything like that.

Agenda is cute. You’ve made up that it’s the Alt Right who are saying a member doxxed the employee.

You being all lawyer-like (I know, I'm in law school) only furthers my point. You know what you are doing but are hiding behind technicalities to avoid having to stand behind your conviction.

That is why the alt-right can never win, it doesn't have the balls to stand firm.

I don't know how many are alt-righters, but that trend has definitely been a major annoyance and is the main reason I don't spend more time here. It became clear, that at least for a big chunk of the most active posters, they didn't want politics off the board and just wanted a certain type of politics off the board.

Era has all kinds of crazy moderation decisions and some really shitty threads. But it's easy to stay out of them as there's usually only one or two at a time on the gaming forum (and I use the chrome extension to hide them to just reduce clutter) while otherwise it's full of great gaming OTs, review threads, preview threads that get thousands of posts. Gaming here tends to have a higher ratio of political/social issue topics (though that's gradually been getting better), but discussion is just too slow outside of super huge AAA releases. I mean Soul Calibur 6 doesn't even have an OT here, just some discussion in review thread. While the ERA OT has thousands of posts, tons of good tips and strategies being shared etc.

So as much as many there bitch about Era's political focus, it's far easier to just focus on having good and active discussions about games there than it is here. Maybe that will change, but I kind of doubt it. The politics subforum, which I was strongly behind, in some sense may be backfiring as it's drawing in/keeping here so many people who are more interested in talking about political topics that pure gaming topics.

Era is interested in gaming and a bunch of other crap while Gaf is all about the culture war. People care about the breast slider in SCVI than the game itself.

It is pretty sad that Gaf's "politics" sub forum (it isn't politics as much as it is circle jerking) is more active than the gaming side. I thought that was supposed to be what ERA is for, but, lo and behold, the adage "you become what you hate" is very applicable here. Gaf is the most left wing alt right nest on the web :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:

On the other hand you seem rather uncomfortable with the fact how things are operated here.

If you know who wrote it, then why don't you write a PM to this staff member and instead come here to enjoy us with your complaining?

I only leave when I anger some posters who are friends with the mods get the mods to ban me.
You are projecting, not reflecting.

Name a few examples, while you are at it. :).

I mean, what do you think is left and why do you think this forum is immune to those things when they exist in all communities?

Misrepresenting other users, posting emotionally instead of logically, trolling, debating in bad faith, a vocal minority controlling the overall tone of the site (And by control I don't just mean overt, I mean by natural shape in regards to number of posters, etc... and issues that this can cause) You really think these things don't occur here?

Depends on what kind of left you are talking about. US Left? European Left? There is a stark difference.

No, but everytime evidence is asked, it never really is given (or there is a thread about it). Its usally off-handed complaints. I don't want to have that discussion on loose complaints. Its why i try to source as much threads/posts when addressing ERA as possible.

PS: Don't forget my post in that other thread about my dismissive behavior. You will find i am rather pro-trans matters :)

Nah, I'm good. This place is essentially TrumpLand and I enjoy running circles around you children. It's good cardio.

I'm no SJW. I'll leave that up to fine folk of Gaf.

You are projecting, not reflecting.

That is a very awkward thing to say to my post. Am I supposed to be reflecting?

Why are you using an ad populum and grouping me along with what you consider problematic?

The very fact that you are making multiple posts complaining about the status of GAF here is a sign you feel uncomfortable by the way you are treated.

I'm no SJW. I'll leave that up to fine folk of Gaf.
So you chose on purpose to post here rather than addressing your issue with the staff itself? Is that logical?

That is a very awkward thing to say to my post. Am I supposed to be reflecting?
Yes. If you were reflecting you would atleast understand why you were banned in the first place and take steps to avoid that, i reckon.

He said who do you think is left, as in "who didn't leave GAF".
Left in this context is inherently political and thus i have to ask what the user is referring to since there are very stark differences between US Left and Europeran Left.

Way to make something political when it wasn't :messenger_grinning_sweat:
Seeking clarification is political apparently. Noted. Spoiler: Not everything is political.

You enjoy running around children?

Says more about your own bloated sense of ego than anyone here. And you're studying law? Wow. What a waste of talent.
I wouldn't want to bring unrelated matters into this.

No, lol, I meant "what is left to consider..." :p

Are you actually asking me to provide examples? I think you have seen me deal with people doing this, and you acknowedge it exists, so are you really asking me to go through my post history and link you to stuff that you already acknowledge is happening?

If you really want me to, I can, if only to make you stop going on about it! ;)
PS: Don't forget my post in that other thread about my dismissive behavior. You will find i am rather pro-trans matters :)

I think you can be both supportive and dissmissive, and I acknowledge have dismissed things in the past as I hadn't considered certain things. So, maybe I disagreed with you one something.

Heh, i see it now. Yikes on me. :'D

What is left? Well, i dunno. I don't frequent politics since its mostly US-based and that's mostly irrelevant for me, so..

Are you actually asking me to provide examples? I think you have seen me deal with people doing this, and you acknowedge it exists, so are you really asking me to go through my post history and link you to stuff that you already acknowledge is happening?
Sure, make it a thread even and tag Yoshi into it who was going to do something similar.

I think you can be both supportive and dissmissive, and I acknowledge have dismissed things in the past as I hadn't considered certain things. So, maybe I disagreed with you one something.
Alright, very well.

I can't win against mods who take sides, I'm not interested in fighting a fight I can't win.

Yes. If you were reflecting you would atleast understand why you were banned in the first place and take steps to avoid that, i reckon.

I was banned for being a shit disturber. That's fine by me.

Well you certainly look silly now :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Are you seriously accusing Redneckerz Redneckerz of all people of being alt-right? It’s obvious that you’re just bitter about your temp ban and lashing out. Maybe you weren’t correctively tapped enough as a child 😂

Yes and he/she used their law powers to figure out that a retired 33 year old father of (soon to be) 3 democrat is Alt Right. Lol. It’s like if Ancient Aliens was a person and posted on Gaf.

I do enjoy reading the rage barf posts tho. Hope they stay.

Edit: NO! They are gone.

To jump in since I furthered that line of discussion above...I don't think GAF has any of the moderation issues Era has or that it had before. From what I've seen in threads, the ban history page etc., Tyler and the mods are doing a great job of allowing discussion, not pushing any agenda, and keeping thing civil throw warnings and bans that are very fair from what I've caught.

The problems the two communities share is having a very large proportion of the most prolific posters primarily interested in talking politics and social issues rather than games (and random shit in off topic). As above, to my chagrin, the politics sub has worsened that here as it's the most active area and some of those prolific posters seem to only/mostly leave there when there's some political/social issue thread in gaming or two come make fun of such topics in Era here (which can be amusing, I admit!).

Gaf's biggest problem is lack of active users. I tried to be more active, made an OT for Dead Cells, posted in some others and so on but there's just not enough activity for it to be worth my time as someone who's online a lot. Era has a lot of terrible moderation practices, but Gaming over there has calmed down and that shit is usually confined to a thread or two at a time that are easily avoided. It's still they place to go for seeing and discussing breaking news, the best game OTs and communities to find people to play with etc. The vocal minority bitches and moans in those threads catered to social justice type topics, but the vast majority of people are just there for the games. Hence that poll that got shut down that showed with a few hundred votes in that a VAST majority there are still buying Cyberpunk, despite all the huge outrage in the thread about the tweet.

Point being, it's easy to ignore that vocal minority of active posters there by staying out of those threads, ignoring the worst users in those threads (only reason I skim them) and so on. You can't really do that here as it's really a vocal majority--not of overall members, but of the active members posting daily/hourly. That drives off/keeps away the people just wanting to talk games and I just don't see that changing. There's no reason for most to come back from Era as it's so easy to avoid the nutjobs over there and stick to the pure gaming threads. Those that come back here tend to just be people that got banned, and many of those are people who love talking political/social justice shit as that'st he topics that got them banned. Thus they just add to the people often posting about politics/social justice issues rather than games.

I guess this place is ok if you want a slower community with fewer members so you can get to know people. I don't have much interest in that, and even if I did there are places like the gaming (especially PS4) forums on Bluray.com that have that pace and no political/social justice issue talk occurring/allowed (for the most part). But I prefer busy forums as I want content and don't care to get to know randoms online anymore.

I mean if activity and large groups is what you want, Reddit is the spot. Not Gaf or Era. Siege Subreddit is way bigger than Gaf ever was by itself. And you don’t have to deal with politics at all. I’d always pick subreddits over OT.

And you actually communicate with devs of games on reddit.

I use Reddit some, but just don't like the format. There just isn't much room for discussion in the busy ones (it's great for smaller games), so many repeated topics, so many kids fishing for upvotes for Karma etc. Era fits my needs, as Gaf did before it and other forums before that. I'm 40 and grew up with forums (well high school on anyway) so it's just what I'm used to and prefer. They all have their bullshit, but it's easy to avoid when they're active enough to have plenty of content that interests me like old-Gaf or Era now.

Edit: Reddit also tends to skew younger. I like that Era (and Gaf) have more 30-40+ year olds. I spend too much time around the younger crowd at work as is. :D

This is pretty much what I was going to say regarding the same issues around vocal minority shaping things.

Examples of the issues I mentioned above. And I'm only listing these as you want me to provde them, I don't feel the need to point out this stuff for my own sake. No victim playing here or any such nonsense:

Poster coming into a thread and dropping a silly hot take and failing to engage when asked to back it up. - click
Needless accusatory post with clear petty bias - click
Completely absurd call to justify my participation here by... upping my number of posts on gaming side? - click

Only half way through the second page of my listed messages, do you want me to continue Red?

And things like this increase when the tone is leaning to one side as there's an element of safety in numbers in play with people on one side of the conversation piling on another without much thought put into it. And this can't really be avoided, so again it's really not stab at Gaf itself more an observation. This place has more potential for discussion due to its more open moderation, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will achieve that state to it's fullest potential.

Yeah the FireWall is small but allows you to have conversations with the actual Dev team.

And Siege is so big that finding teams and players is easier than it ever was on Gaf.

Sorry you don’t like the format.

Yeh, I play Save the World and the Epic devs use that sub to communicate with the forums, they even have a few specific community managers for this very task with their own reddit accounts devoted to this.

I do like that part of some Subreddits. But it just mostly going and seeing what updates their sharing than posting myself. Forum threads are just better for casually shooting the shit about a game you're playing with others playing it than Reddit's format for me. I mostly play single player games too--Reddit seems better for MP games where you need to find people to play with, where devs are constantly getting feedback and tweaking the game based on player input etc.

That’s what made me search Gaf at first. Unfortunately Old Gaf ran those people out of town a long time ago.

I agree fully, one place for dev comms, another for shooting the shit. I was just clarifying that those subs can be specifically excellent at that.

Redneckerz

Those long posts don't cover that red neck boy
I can't win against mods who take sides, I'm not interested in fighting a fight I can't win.
The fact you think discussions are fights one must win is not how you should look at things. By immediately taking in a stance of The mods'are out to get me'' you will never get a reasonable conversation.

I was banned for being a shit disturber. That's fine by me.
And you are banned now for the same thing. But hey, you are fine with that, so i guess everyone wins, i guess. Which is why i am saying you are projecting since you don't learn from what is considered problematic here.

Well you certainly look silly now :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Oh yeah, people can misread on occassion. Hurr durr so silly *teary eyes* emoji. Grow up.

But that's what the alt-right specialises in!
DDP isnt alt-right as far as i know.

Are you seriously accusing Redneckerz Redneckerz of all people of being alt-right? It’s obvious that you’re just bitter about your temp ban and lashing out. Maybe you weren’t correctively tapped enough as a child 😂
Not me, but DunDunPachi.

If i wanted to stoop to his level i would just be like this ERA staffer right here and help a Little helper dox a GOG employee and then jokingly apply for the now open position, and also trashtalk on CDPR while you are at it. That's The Names for you.

I'm honestly never sure if you're being serious half of the time... I'm not going to make a thread.... I'll list them here though after my current Desitny match!
I am actually serious since a seperate thread would do well to tackle this long standing issue that is going through multiple threads and multiple users.

The problem i have with 2 out of your 3 posts, whilst being rather much, is that they are pertaining to personal interactions.
The vegan one is rightly problematic though, even though the general point is discussion worthy.

Ultimately, would i say it shows that GAF as a whole is problematic? I don't think so. I think a lot of it (in this case, since you link to personal interactions) is on tone predominantly, and it works both ways. Person A has a rather direct/aggressive tone, leading to you reacting in the same way, or vice versa.

Is that on GAF? I don't know. The fact that i am honestly assessing your situation and giving my points instead of making some kind of unsubstantiated buzzword should atleast aid to the idea that not all of GAF is like that. I notice most of the issues that people complain of are rather rooted in Politics. To that end i would want to see a proper thread regarding that, as i am actively avoiding the sub-forum for different reasons. It should be more inclusive, and also perhaps more transparent in its direction, and where staff should interact more instead of leaving things be. As enticing as i find that method, i don't think it works well on the Politics subforum.

Only half way through the second page of my listed messages, do you want me to continue Red?
By all means. If you can, please post more exemplary posts that occur more between users in the Politics section than referring to your own personal situation, as the majority of the GAF Suxx crowd list this as their first (and usually only) reason as to why GAF sucks, but there is never any proper examples that highlight a structural problem.

In regards to the Politics sub i especially agree with the bolded.

Now you're misrepresenting me, I never once claimed the majority of Gaf sucks! Unless I misread that you are lumping me in with them? If that's the case my bad!

I think I've backed up my claim that this site shares issues, and I disagree with your dismissal of some as relevant issues, I guess time will tell in terms of how this affects us all going forward. Thanks for replying, I'll continue to point them out as we go but I'm not dredging up more. We can continue this conversation as and when it happens!
