GAF, I think after this gen I’m done with Sony. I’m not super angry at the company, or disgusted like I was with Microsoft last-gen, I just think that aside from their exclusives, they have nothing to offer me anymore.
Just to give a background, I’m a gamer for life. I probably had one or two hundred X-Box 360 games, but toward the end of the generation I was eager to switch. This was partly because I fell in love with games like Gran Turismo 5 and The Last of Us, partly because most of my friends and family had PS3s, and partly because I didn’t like Microsoft’s messaging to gamers and the way they treated indie devs. So I bought a beautiful Vita, got the PS4 soon after release, and exchanged it for a Pro when the time was right.
Now I think I’m done with Sony. It’s been good, but I feel like they are sending the same type of off-putting messages that Microsoft was sending at the end of the last generation. In particular, I don’t like how they are telling devs to censor the sexual content in their games now, and I’m thinking that for every skeleton of this type in their closet, there’s probably at least a handful more that haven’t come to light. I’m even fine with the angry narrative for TLOU2, but it also seems like an indication that the company is entering partisan nonsense, and I don’t want anything to do with that. So the writing is on the wall for me. I’m not a fan of this culture war stupidity, and I’m wondering if there’s a silent majority out there that feels the same.
I’m not sure what surprises the console makers have coming up for the next gen, but I’m thinking whatever they can offer, PC gaming will probably match and surpass it. It might mean I have to spend a bit more to join the fun, but so be it.
When you see so many threads like this, you know it's the end of the gen....It's a bit strange tbh, it's like people are already campaigning for next gen.....
I'll say this, I'm on the side of games; high quality, high production values in games and exclusives and I got tonnes of that this gen on a Sony console, and about to get a tonne more in 2019... Conspicuously, what was missing the most from XBOX this gen are the games, that was it's biggest achilles heel and also the most important reason we buy consoles......I don't play those anime games, so it doesn't affect me, but surely, there must be a reason Sony is censoring some games in Japan.....So let's get the whole picture on the situation before we render a company evil for regulating an issue which tonnes of people are having issue with where Sony thinks they need to do something about it......
Personally, I don't play games for titillation purposes, many other avenues for that, even better media focus all over the internet where you get the real thing with no censorship........I'm not saying sexual depiction in games shouldn't exist or shouldn't be a thing, but even Sony has dialed down on that in their exclusives, so maybe it's a new mandate for the whole gaming division...You realize there was no sexual mini-game in GOW?... Granted the story they told in that game introduced us to a grieving Kratos and a changed man, so perhaps it would not be something he would pursue in the story tbf, but perhaps, it's something specific to the artstyle in anime games, that some characters look so young and the way they depict themselves in said games and how they try to draw their audience in, sometimes a very young audience could be drawn in through the sexual suggestiveness in these games.....
So it's a bigger issue than just games, because tonnes of companies, foundations, bodies would be at Sony to make a difference to stop persons from accessing content where sexually active and sugesstive characters look so young...I won't go too far into this because we know the implications and we know our society has issues with even adults pursuing younger persons or children outside of games, perhaps this is a measure to stamp out such pursuits and thoughts even in games...The thing is, Sony has been the market leader for so many gens and in this one as well, it makes sense that they get the most pressure to make a change there.....Yet, I don't think this is about sexual censorship as such, perhaps if the devs don't make their characters look so young or childlike there would be less censorship there......I think that is the issues.....So just like my GOW example, I'm pretty sure after Kratos grieves, we may see him having the occasional sexual scene or mini-game, but the difference is none of the women looked underage in any GOW game......
So no, I will stick to or go where the games are...and lets be honest OP...I hope you're not trying to be a bit disingenuous with all of this, because if you love Sony Ip's, you can play those games on a Sony console and if you really believe you must get your fix of censored games, you can always play those on PC or Nintendo machines if they are not censored there.....
Whatever makes you feel comfortable. Go check out Dreams next. I'll stop playing my VR games on console when you give me the 411 on it.
