Dead or Alive 6 - Jiggle Physics Are Back!

Eurogamer released what I’m guessing is their preview for DoA6, although the overall focus is the game’s female sexualization.

For those who’d rather not give clicks, here’s an archived version: Archive Link.

The piece doesn’t editorialize too much, but I get from it the insinuation they feel the developers lied about toning down the fan service. Once the game releases, I imagine mainstream press will ape Eurogamer’s view: DoA is the same, because the girls are still pretty and some have skimpy outfits gated behind in-game currency.

Of some note, while the article reiterates the amount of jiggle is tied to the individual outfit, apparently it can also still be toggled on/off. Essentially, even though the toggle invalidates the need to delete the feature, the ability to adjust jiggle was removed to please a demographic that never cared about the series, leaving the existing base to depend on whatever Koei Tecmo/Team Ninja decides to offer on a per-outfit basis—how nice of them.

What I find almost gratifying, after the efforts taken to promote the game’s lessened fan service, Shimbori’s final comments display frustration at the media for not taking his game seriously and instead focusing on the fan service.
"But the fact is, we are trying to build a good fighting game with a challenging system. We put a lot of effort into tutorials and the quest mode to make it accessible for beginners. We are honouring the long-term fans and making sure they also get what they expect. We would really appreciate it if the media would focus more on the topic of we are building a good game here and not only focusing on this juggle talk."

The above outcome seemed inevitable, and keep in mind the comment is featured in an article that barely strays from talking about sexulization. On the positive for Shimbori, some people might read the Eurogamer piece and decide DoA6 really is the same.

My take: if DoA6 was truly honoring the existing fans, the game wouldn’t have taken steps to alter and bury the series’ fan-service elements, while adopting a marketing message that almost suggested the developers were embarrassed by the content of previous entries in the series.

If Marie Rose's ass was that...bubbly, I might be more ok with her. It's not.
"Not only are these mouse pads super comfortable, but for a limited time, we're also throwing-in a free copy of Dead or Alive 6! Order now!"

Shimbori MUST be fired and the next DoA developer tell the Westerners to suck it and up the sexualization to the 9th degree.

I still get a kick that people still think this is such a great business model. Good luck with that Tecmo-Koei.

Yeah, Shimbori should follow this man footsteps on how to market fighting games

When a crazy feminist working for Kotaku asked him why he included all this fanservice in his game he just said, because i find it cool. next question.

Do you have a link to the interview?

“It’s interesting you say you don’t set out to be sexy,” I continued, “because SoulCalibur has traditionally had really elaborate breast physics in the game. That doesn’t exist for gameplay, of course.”
“I think, as a result, the characters as a result end up being sexy,” replied Okubo. “That’s not something we can deny necessarily, but in the process of game design, we just really try to go after what we think would be cool actions, cool movement, strong, powerful movements. That is kind of a byproduct of this pursuit of trying to find what we think is pretty cool.”

Translation:
SJW: Why do you have breast physics in a fighting game?
SC6 producer: Because fuck you, that's why.

I played this series including the Xtreme games with friends and even my sister without shame. My sister had no problems with either series and even borrowed them in the past.

Now I have to hide DOA6 under my mattress.

Not really, but that's what these dumb interviews are making it feel like.

Kinda depends how you played, just the game sections or were you using photo paradise and rotating poses , swimsuits and camera angles? >.>

Well, yeah mostly the game stuff (this was Xtreme 2), but even while using the most extreme swimsuits.

I can't be the only one that cares primarily about the fighting, right?

I really do enjoy how DOA plays. It's got a speed that few fighters can match, but with enough technical merits to be more than a button masher (if you want it to be). I would easily consider it my favorite playing 3d fighting series.

I just also really love all the sexy girls and want more and more and more of them as well (and bring back Rachel).

Care to make your own thread about it, then?
Oh I know that this thread was all about dem jigglez. I found it interesting that the fighting barely came up. If it was a thread about the fighting, the jiggles would inevitably be mentioned.

Not that I mind the jiggles by the way. They can put what they wish in the game, as long as there's options so that people can set things the way they like. I did dislike the way that they handled the costumes in DOA5, where they really tried milking their fan base.

I miss when milking fans with overpriced costumes was Koei Tecmo's worst. Now you have to buy game modes, removed weapons, removed characters, characters already on the disc, among other things, on top of costumes.

Someone posted this on the DOA Reddit, but it kind of looks like the improved Kasumi's face on the newest build

I like the new look...but I'm also not actually sure if it is a new look or just a trick with the lighting and camera.

It's the lighting and camera, already seen some direct footage from the latest preview build with Raidou, with her fighting Honoka, it's the same as the beta. However they have improved her face a bit since when the game was first revealed, I noticed that in the beta. Stage lighting has a notable effect on the glossy skin textures, I've noticed this as well in the Nyotengu screenshots.

I think this will be the first DOA I'll pass on. I'm gonna keep an eye on it, but it's so weird that they decided to go this way.

I'm starting to like what I see now. Perusing the DOA subreddit has turned up some vids that reignite my enthusiasm.

This Reddit topic has some nice discussion of breast physics with some new footage!

This vid is nice!

You can see a bit of Leifangs lose pose in it, too!

That's the first time I've seen that Honoka costume in action and I'm liking what I see quite a bit. Plus, everyone else's bouncing looks good as well. Different than how the soft engine looked for sure, since it looks like they are implementing gravity and the effect of the clothes in a more notable fashion in DOA6. Consider me a fan.

Is Rachel in this game?

...no.

They say that they understand that the fans are asking for her, but that they wanted to focus on story specific characters. Which means that she will probably be available later as either DLC or bundled in with DOA6 Ultimate.

We lose Rachel but get NiCO. Life aint fair.

Nice posts guys, its slightly reassuring but I'm still not totally sold on it. Most of the costumes are not very "cool" to me either sadly, but there are at least a couple of nice ones in there. Man I hope they add jiggle options in a patch like last time. Knowing my gf though she'll get me to buckle and pre-order lol, her fave mains are Christie, Hitomi, and Kokoro, but Nyotengu is her absolute must have and she's worried about the pre-order exclusivity. I just want to wait and see how they react to sales and such. I also didn't get DoA5 on launch, which kind of worked out for me save for the Xtreeeeeeeeme dlc issues lol.

The more outfits I see from DoA6, the more it strengthens my conviction to never touch the vanilla version of the game. For the price of basic entry, I shouldn't feel like they're throwing me a bone, allowing me to unlock a few sexy or throwback costumes, with the majority of outfits being normal clothing or questionable (and dumpy looking) workout gear.

I'm also having an issue with the below video, where Mila apparently jiggles in her workout hoodie, but Tina's chest barely moves in a cutoff tank top.

I dislike the potential notion there's no logical reason for certain costumes to jiggle or jiggle more than others; and what's increasingly seeming like the arbitrary nature of jiggle leads back to my initial impression from the reveal that Koei Tecmo always intended to screw some of the existing fans, by forcing them to DLC sexy back into the game.

I really like the fighting mechanics in the Dead or Alive series, probably more than anything else in the franchise. The beautiful women do help, but I would still play the game even if they were average looking.

Is there some kind of sweater fetish I'm unaware of? That's a lot of sweaters.

Looks like the chances of sexy DLC being nearly mandatory is pretty high. I hope the prices are reasonable. I'll buy some if they are. Looking at how bad games gouge for cosmetics these days makes me worry, though.

I can hear it now: "It's optional, you don't need costumes! They don't affect the gameplay so who cares if they cost absurd amounts. Stop whining, you entitled perv." It's not going to be fun, is it?

Can we agreed that Mila is the Worst Female character of DOA?

Ayane is my least favorite DoA girl. Her fighting stance looks awful and hasnt changed from the PS1 days, I dont really like her fighting style (the back turned and spin spin spin etc) and her purple hair is too "out there" for me.
Ayanes still hot so I like her for that, but the other girls look better.

Marie Rose is the worst character hands down. DOA was always known for big bouncing tits, so why the hell did they bring in a To Catch A Predator decoy into my bouncy game.

A nice tight sweater is a beautiful thing to behold on a girl. Hell, there's even a term for that, "Sweater Puppies". Also, the damage they've shown looks good as well.

Oh yeah, someone on Twitter is posting a ton of costumes from the newest build, which includes some costumes that have been verified for the first time. Costumes such as

UY5WMj0.jpg

WAkhqRZ.jpg

This outfit was shown, but this is the first time I've seen it with the bra

GFOwJMn.jpg

This one might have been shown before, but it's the first time I've seen confirmation of it

Looking at that, excluding color variations, female characters have 3 DOA5 costumes and 2 new costumes, and males have 1 new costume and there DOA5 default. Most the returning DOA5 costumes are limited to the non DLC starter costumes from vanilla DOA5 (or the free with character for the DLC characters from Ultimate), with a few exceptions like 2 of Helena's and 1 of Hitomi's, and Honoka and Marie since they only came with 2 costumes unlike Nyotengu.

So basically for most the females they just took defaults from DOA5, cut 1 and replaced said cut with 2. Males just strait up get fucked, now every male gets to be a vanilla DOA5 Genfu.

They're really trying to use those added color variations and that sad excuse of a customization mode to mask what they're doing. I'm really interested in just how much of the DOA5 DLC costumes will end up being resold as DLC in the long run, like Dynasty Warriors 7 DLC costumes.
