Crackdown 3 - Review Thread

I can't believe it, I thought it would be the best semi-exclusive ever for Microsoft and it would launch them into next gen as number one.

For fucks sake, we all knew this was going to be a disaster. Sorry for the guys that had to play this shit to review it.

I'm not bothered by these numbers. Reviewers seem to heavily favor story driven games with cinematic presentation. Sadly games like Crackdown won't rate high in the current gaming media because it's not some indie title that hits above it's weight nor is it some drama laden experience in which they can marvel us with their astute understanding of it's deeper themes and feels. It's a fun game which simply isn't that interesting to write about. Though I'm tempted to look and see how Waypoint politicizes it just for a laugh.

In this scenario what happened to Quantum Break then? I mean it got a 77 which is good but far from what ppl were saying back then just like CD3. It's not about the type of game, it's about the quality, promises and presentation and Microsoft is bombing on that front. Even Infamous Second Son with no mp, not drama laden or really cinematic scored an 80. The order 1886 which was very story driven and cinematic scored a 63 meta. I'm not buying tht excuse. We need to criticize Microsoft when it's due and their first party offerings and diversity just aren't generally good save for a few known staples.

You know what really sucks? The first game was actually really good. Surprisingly good. I bought it merely because it was a pass for the halo 3 beta, but when I was told by equally shocked friends to try it, I had a blast. I wouldn’t call it genre defining, but it was just this romp of pure super hero/matrix badassery that just kept me coming back to collect orbs.

The second game happened and was a direct copy paste but now with zombies and unnamed and forgettable thugs. It was a mess.

But this game. This fucking game. I didn’t want the destructive gameplay they originally aimed for, I just wanted a balls to the wall sequel to the original with modern graphics. And holy shit this has been a mess. Delay after delay, broken promises, lackluster graphics for current gen, months if not years in the dark with an occasional tease and a shitty attempt of a multiplayer has really made my skin crawl. I swear, if this wasn’t free I wouldn’t even bother to play this game. And as a huge fan of the original, this hurts

A BIG first party game under 70 is garbage. That mark may be acceptable for an indie or low-budget title but a potential big franchise title (as Microsoft has been hyping it up) getting that low score is a disaster. Besides, it's not the grades but what reviews are saying. The game is a disaster in every department. It would be a fine F2P but coming from previous failures this is unacceptable.

Hopefully Ori 2 is coming to save the day for Microsoft this year. On a good note, I hope this debacle makes Microsoft give up on releasing this multiplayer-focus empty sort of game.
Well first of all the reviews arent all in. Second of all the multiplayer mode hasnt even been reviewed. Third of all stop being a drama queen lol. This game is far from a disaster. Holy shit ive never seen people so eager to get their 2 cents in on a game they were never gonna play in the first place. Microsoft doesnt need saving this year. There are plenty of interesting games on the horizon. People just need to relax and play whatever it is they enjoy playing.

You convinced us. Everyone stand down Microsoft shouldn't get shit or criticized for their generally subpar exclusives or their hot air about the cloud compute and their misleading destruction gameplay/demos through the years. Milo and kinect please step out, it's OK.

The mainstream media reviewing games...

Oh.

You must be trolling by now, seriously. I don't see what you're bringing to the thread at all. If you don't like reviews and don't base initial opinions on reviews, don't go into review threads.

If you only care about your opinion, stop going to review threads.

If you pick certain parts of a review that are good but dismiss the bad when others bring it up, stop going to review threads.

I'll still try it on game pass since I loved the first game but considering it was developed by Sumo Digital, the same people that brought you Little Big Planet 3, the most buggy console game I've ever played I'm not surprised it didn't turn out well. At this point the best I can hope is that it shows off HDR well since rdr2 was a dud on the HDR front

Why are you so upset?

I am just pointing out the absurdity of basing your opinion on reviews written by people who aren't gamers, don't know about the medium and aren't really interested in it.

Think about it in the context of the games price. Would it have fared better if it was cheaper? When you're paying AAA price for a game, you can reasonably expect AAA performance which it seems that Crackdown 3 is not.

This idea that a game needs to a cinematic showcase in order to justify a $60 price tag is the problem. Cut scenes and set pieces do nothing for me, so this "it's not AAA" is a bunch of BS. It's AAA fun. People can subscribe to gamepass and play it for $1 or at worst $10 or wait a few weeks for a sale so I don't agree with faulting the game for that since it offers more than the average game with 15 hours for the campaign.

That doesn't mean games are games are guarantied a good rating if they follow that formula, just games shouldn't be criticized for not following it. QB tried to go a bit too far by including a TV show. Also designing a game around time glitches was not a good idea considering at points it's almost just as annoying as actual game glitches. For me at least anyway. The Order 1886 was hurt by very weak gameplay, but don't forget a major issue many had was with the way it ended.

Never liked Crackdown but wanted to support Microsoft. This game is starting to make me feel like thats a mistake. However Game Pass means that I'm supporting them anyways.

I'm just gonna chalk this up as a loss and hopefully the new studios will produce something worth while next gen. Stick a fork in Microsoft...the tanks empty.

That's a fair point.

That was probably more my personal opinion. I'd want more than just fun before I justified spending the RRP on the game. I have a Game Pass trial, so will how much I enjoy playing it. I may find turn around and find that the game is fun enough to buy, by then it may have dropped in price.

Not that it will matter much since everybody's mind seem to be made up and from what I've seen before Tim Rogers is not popular here.

5/10's god damn that's pretty mediocre.

played the test and was great and honestly myself I'm just hoping the single player is as good as the first game.

Please tell us more about these "plenty of interesting games on the horizon"?

Don't need to read any corrupt gaming journo reviews, thanks. Microsoft probably didn't pay them all enough for anything higher than the 6/10s. Can't wait for tomorrow to play this!

That way he delivered his review was really, really weird. Can't tell if he's mocking the game or what. Was like listening to a robot hipster. =x

Microsoft has been out in full force with their marketing for this game and cloud over the years. I would say we are back to the astroturfing days of 2013 levels. Everyday, another article on cloud gaming, game pass, or cloud physics or stats - literally every day. (That takes money)

What's average to you? 5/10 is average.

No, 5/10 is halfway. It the world of video game scoring, 5/10 is abysmal.

It's all relative. If you scored 50% on an exam, that wouldn't be average - it would be an F.

I’ve got to hand it to you...that is an awesome avatar for a troll.

Well played.

Looks more like an indie game than a AAA exclusive.

Worth it on Gamepass without a doubt, but you want to rush out and buy games when they drop, for that excitement of playing something you've waited years to do.

I never get that with Xbox. Playstation has those kinds of games every year and they look like the sort of games that would melt your console as they look too beautiful to run on it.

Haven't really up do date with Crackdown 3 news

Is this another one of those online only game like Sea of Thieves, Anthem or Division?

So far I keep seeing Tery Crews faces in the covers, he's a fixed main protagonist or can we create our own characters?

No. Just a regular old single and multiplayer game, hyped for years over power of cloud, that did not come close to living up to hype. Some people will love it, but it will be primarily known for flopping hard.

You have to mess up pretty bad to get a 5 from a major site nowadays. Feels bad for the crackdown fans.

Online co-op for the campaign and normal online MP, but not like a mini-mmo or similar like those.

Campaign can be played offline.

Man watching the video reviews. It the lockon aiming that really is the nail in the coffin for this game. Who though that was a good idea. :messenger_astonished:

I find aggregate reviews interesting but thats about it. I have ended up disagreeing so many times over generally "good" reviews and over generally "bad" reviews that I no longer base my decisions on them. I usually wait until gamers get their hands on and give impressions.

When you have mainstream games journalists buying the wrong game then writing an article about it, or complaining that Dark Souls has made modern games too hard, it really does make you realise that you would generally need a slight touch of insanity to place too much stock in the opinions of these folks.

This thread is amazing. Post-purchase rationalization by delusional Xbox fans is truly a sight to behold.

I can't wait for the Anthem threads.

I've checked out the reviews for previous Crackdown game and turns out it's quite a mediocre series so I'm surprised to see people have high expectations for this game

But Dark Souls scored a 89 on MC, if it weren't for technical issue it could be argued it would have been very very high. I can understand the logic of not taking just one reviewer seriously, as it depends, but to disregard everything? Using reviews to gauge whether a title is right for you can be useful, to me the MC scores are good measuring stick, generally speaking.

I'm not saying one can't enjoy a sub-70 games, I have on occasion, but its usually an indie title. No way I would purchase a sub-70 game on release, you're talking bargain bin material, generally speaking.

Just joking mate no worries. Honestly looking forward to the game, and sad to see the bad reviews. But I'm going oldskool and pretending they don't exist.

I was a huge fan of the first Crackdown (I'd have given it a 90+(?)/100) at the time. I'm a few hours into Crackdown 3 and I'm loving it. It's vastly better than Crackdown 2 (which is, obnoxiously, scoring higher on Metacritic as I type this). What I've played so far of CD3, I'd score around an 85/100. Exploring the city, leveling up, experimenting with weapons and vehicles, and pretty visuals are all well done. It absolutely stands up to the original and is a worthy successor.

CD3 bypasses the original with some of its features like enemy variety, weapon variety (with great sound effects), increased traversal options with suit boosters (very fun to use), a really useful/cool 3d map of the whole city you can rotate and zoom in and out of, a far more fleshed out story with better characters, some nice CG and cool cook comic cutscenes, and I'm just getting started.

It's a a big, loud, comic book third-person open world Crackdown with next-gen colorful graphics and a light sense of humor. I really like it so far and can't wait to sink more time into it. If this game scores sub 70/100, that's criminal.

I just watched the Digital foundry comparison video. It looks good. Can’t wait to try it out. I’m curious how good it will look in 4K and good HDR implimimitation. As it is on game pass it’s a no brainer to try it out.

Most likely because it is not a cinematic walking simulator with socially progressive political message (i.e., radical feminism).

Is this supposed to be a jab at David Cage game?

save your bitterness for another thread fellas this is a Crackdown 3 review
