I think it's all about pricing. The Xbox One S and PS4 are still waaaay too over priced. The stupid dickless Xbox One: SAD is about to go on sale for $250. That's insane. Both of those consoles (Xbox One SAD and OG PS4) should be $199 MAX and probably closer to $179.

I don't know I think the push for a new generation will heavy affect actual sales.
But you are right... these consoles should be cheaper or at least receive some substantial price cut this year... price cuts seems to happen after E3 so let's see.

Still haven't joined this generation as the price hasn't come down quick enough for my taste. Been playing my son's PS4 via PSTV and saving my pennies for PS5

It is, but I’m still not as thrilled by the Switch numbers because it basically consolidated all the portable DS users and the traditional console users into one category. I mean, the numbers are great, but when you parse them they become a little less spectacular given what znintendo gave up to get them. It’s still a great little system though.

Still, I do believe the hybrid approach was the most profitable route for them to take post wii u. & I love the fact a small jpn company can compete with American behemoths just by being smart and making quality games.
They get too many games, store is crowded. But if you mean first party, you dont actually need to release that many games to keep people happy. 2-4 per year is all you need.

yep price was the entire reason that ps2 is still the king of console sales. next year after the next boxes come out both ps4 base and one s should be around $99 wont happen but, if did I could see PS4 actually beating ps2 if they kept it around for a few years.

Yeh it is really bad, it's just we often see in threads like these people claiming Xbox is on some kind of resurgence, like the poster above celebrating the gap with the PS4 was smaller this month (where are the figures?). But in it's strongest market, despite XBONEX and firesales, I'm reading its sales declined significantly more compared to PS4 this year. Again, if Welfare's figures (-35% LTD) are wrong, feel free to slap me in the face.
The -35% is YTD rather than LTD.
The XB1 isn't having a resurgence like some like to pretend. Likewise, you'll find just as many posters pretending the XB1 has really fallen off of a cliff lately compared to the PS4.
Both consoles are deep into this gen, and it's no secret that next gen consoles are coming. They're about where they should be tbh. At least in that ballpark.
The narrative that XB1 sales "Are really bad", and "firesales" is pretty shit really. I mean demigod's link was to a guy who sells refurbished XB1S on Newegg. Lol

One is on constant discount with a game bundled the other hasnt has a price cut in like 4 years and no bundle. Its not that impressive.
