There were issues, especially technical ones, in the review builds. So, some of the criticism is genuine.Well its actually a good game, not at Gof of War lvl or other big franchises from Sony, but its not what the reviews are making it to be.I feel that the reviews kind off screwed this game

DG is more like a rough diamond. We buy FIFA and Call of Duty regularly, another polished turd is right up our streets

Mat Piscattela (NPD) said there is a significant correlation between review scores and sales when the metacritic averages are 90+. But he said that when metacritic averages are lower than 90, review scores increasing don't matter all that much. There's some correlation, but it's weak. I think Days Gone will a game that doesn't review well but sells well.
Even at its peak, the Sony Bend team was much smaller than other Sony studios. It wouldn't have the budget of an Uncharted 4, God of War, etc. That means it doesn't need to sell so many. I'm making these numbers up just to illustrate the hypothetical ratio, but if Uncharted needed to sell 8 million to turn a profit, then Days Gone turn a profit after 3 million.
Early indications are that Sony is pleased with the sales. I'm sure they'll green-light a sequel. Days Gone 2 should be real good.
Considering this was Sony Bend's first open-world game, I'm impressed. They nailed the open world.
Congratulation! I didn't see that coming, I thought the general public will avoid it because of the mediocre review scores. Cool that I was wrong, game is appearantly better then the review scores (so I have heard).
The Halo effect in play (Nvidia's hyper-putrid 1650 will outsell AMD's vast better and vastly better value 570 for the same reason).
Also *projection* (wishful thinking)- gamers looking at the promotional vids and wanting the game via a projection of what they wish the game wiil be vs the very mdeiocre reviews telling what the game actually is.
The reason some really bad sequels to beloved movies get a very good BO, even when the critics trash the film.
However, in the entertainment biz, the Halo effect and 'projection' are notoriously unreliable. Sony is lucky this time. A few more stinkers in their AAA 'exclusive' family and things will start to look very different. Fanboys will enthusiastically give support to their team over one or two unexpected losses, but beyond that...
In another far too quiet week for the UK retail charts, the top four entries headed up by Days Gone stayed exactly where they were last week.
With no new releases or major sales to bump titles up or down, Days Gone remained at No.1 with a 60% decline in sales week-over-week. Mortal Kombat 11 came in behind it at No.2, seeing a 74% drop from last week.
Days Gone is more like a cash register. It just moved in front of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (PS4 only version) in 9 days on Amazon US, Sekiro was released 35 days prior to DG and it should take down Resident Evil 2 by the end of the weekend which was actually released in November (although the list is only taking in account 2019 sales).
And it's overtaken RE2 PS4, damn.
Only for 2019 sales I believe, not total, as RE2 was released in 2018.
RE2 was released in January 2019, or are you talking about preorders? Not sure if that counts towards 2018 or 2019.

As a curiosity, after week 2 of tracking what are the numbers?Very good performance... solid game helped by a very strong performing console and really on point marketing... congrats all!!!
As a curiosity, after week 2 of tracking what are the numbers?
All year it’s been UK down here and UK down there. Every game has performed poorly, by thier estimates. Except KH3 and Days Gone.
Do we have any sorts of numbers?
YTD tracking from Jan - present?
How are we supposed to frame these in any way?
We are both going to get the same, they aren’t there.I can look for exact numbers or you can, not sure how anything we have heard from anyone is at odd with stating that its performance worldwide seems very good... nor that while it is helped by the fact that the game is actually good (not super duper bestest, but good nonetheless) it is also helped by good on point marketing and riding on top of a very successful console thus exposing it to a more and more diverse user base.
We are both going to get the same, they aren’t there.
Not sure I’d be congratulating those, with no reference, other then it was number 1. Especially with what 1 meant in the UK in previous months and how doomed and gloomed everything was. (For 1 country only reporting physical)
Well deserved, well deserved indeed. You sold somewhere between 1 and 1 billion. Congrats.
Not even.Lol this game selling well is really getting on people’s nerves huh? Notice that nobody happy about this game’s performance is putting any other game down and do notice how this joyous response is coming after massive gloating on the game reviews as performance indicators and declaring it a bomb the day after.
Not even.
Going off other previous months this year it could be around the 150k mark and be the best selling game in April. Hardly a number worth gloating about, but enough to push it to the top spot.
There is too much missing information, but based on the months where they did give info that is the baseline.
Honestly surprised. Wonder how it'll go in america. Congratz to bend, hopefuly their next game will be more within my tastes;p
I’m thinking your tag doesn’t match your posts much any more. I used to take it at its word.“Do not look too much into <Sony product>‘s sales”... ... (word of mouth seems good and stores requesting more and more copies after running out is also a good indicator). Given the shit people have been throwing at this game and how they even started an early birds thread to gloat about its demise and spreading bull crap about the studio? I will gladly cheer it and praise it (without Shane as it is a good game) as a paying customer who put his money where his mouth is .
We will see where it lands as the sales number arrive (apparently it is doing well in France as it was posted earlier on in this thread too). Those could shut some people up... who am I kidding ?
Oh it wasn’t here before? And here comes the ad hominem.
Oh it wasn’t here before?
Tells us what the sales numbers were then?
Otherwise it’s all ad hominem and conjecture.
Isn't the UK like 33% of Europe's sales? So if you throw in digital Days Gone probably sold 140,000 in the UK already. So all of Europe the game probably sold at least 400,000 copies already.
