Square Enix has an ethics department; Told the Final Fantasy 7 remake developers to "restrict" Tifa's chest

I don't care - but I recognize people do care and that's okay. Because I don't care doesn't mean I should expect everyone else not to care either like some people in this thread.

lol how is this a 7 page thread? This is the dominating conversation relating to FF VII Remake? Come on, son. I feel like some of these reactions online are playing it up.
They could've done a lot worse with her redesign. With the exceptions of the thigh-highs, her remake design is very faithful to the original, even down to her crimson eyes and her frame. They even gave her a more toned abdomen; which makes sense for a brawler character.

People weren't seriously expecting her to look straight out of a DOA game, do they?

Square-Enix Ethics Department: These milkers are yikes! Shrink them!
I mean I like big tits as much as the next guy, but Tifa has never at any point ever looked like this. Also the comment of the ethic department was in reference to restricting her jiggle animations, not her chest size.

It's her jiggle animations we want.... :p
Sure, but much of the conversation online is predicated on her tits getting a size reduction. Which is arguably not true.

It's not like Square Enix has ever shied away from having sexy, busty looking characters in their games. Lulu in FFX, Jihl in FFXIII, Cindy in FFXV, among others. The ire feels misdirected.

The thread was created to stoke fake outrage. You think those who passionately embrace their anti-SJW hate boners, to the point where it’s a part of their core identity, are going to give up that easily?
If that's your opinion then maybe you should look into why you're so outraged over fake outrage. Feel better.

People were upset about her boob size. Then people were upset about how Square's Ethics department demanded her breast change. Now we have 3 translations about how people were wrong about the fact, they are upset that Square have an Ethics department.
Not gonna lie, the fact that squenix has an entire department dedicated to ethics yet final fantasy xv was still sold the way it was is pretty upsetting.

Her unrestricted boobs at least look bigger in there.... Just in the thumbnail, to save you watching it :p
That's fan art though. Which is my whole point, as fans can exaggerate as much as they want in their art, but Tifa has never been that busty in the game itself.

Think they should call themselves aesthetics department. And big boobs would probably have been a bit distracting and a bit too fan servicy especially in a tight top.

If you were going to talk ethics, ecoterrorists blowing up a power plant is pretty unethical

This is why the PC platform will always be the best place to play. It has so much flexibility. Have you seen the RE2 Remake nude mods? lol
Not going to lie, some of them are kind of cringe, but some are pretty tasteful haha. The goth Claire is well done.

Maybe having people outrage at the outrage of those outraging at the article is the true intent of the article...

I think it sucks that she's got the sport bra and leggings, but I'm going to put my faith in the pc community to mod this baby right. Hopefully it won't be too difficult to do or that long of a wait... I still think she looks good though. I'm not into skinny or smaller framed gals I wish she was fuller figure but it don't matter none. Game looks great for the most part.

How so? I think her updated design is aces and sexier than her og.

Just not personally into it, I'd prefer her og design. The new one isn't bad but its not to my taste is all. Its one of my fave things about my girl, her confidence in showing skin. She's actually a LOT like Tifa though, she's "cosplayed" a few characters for Halloween over the years and Tifa is an easy one to do. Anyway, glad your happy with it. Now if she had some tall boots or thigh-highs...

See how all that white (skin/fair color) at the top mirrored the skin at the bottom? That is called "consistency." They broke the design to add the black censorship which doesn't look coherent from a design standpoint. It's bad, but they clearly couldn't give her a black tanktop too or the censorship would be too obvious.
Tifa's current design should've been the one in Advent Children, and the original design should've been in Remake. Change the boots and the gloves if you want, but the rest had to be the same.

Censorship? I don't think you know what that means. Its not censorship its an updated design that happens to add some practical elements and still have Tifa with large breasts.

1: Your personal idea of consistency is not a creative law creators are required to stick to, especially when REMAKING something. Adding pictures doesn't really change this.
2: censorship does not mean what you think it means,
3: so they can change some part of her design and not the rest? (conveniently the parts that you personally don't want changed) Sounds like a rather arbitrary way to see things.
4: Nothing is more hilarious than randos thinking they know better than a character's creators how that character "should" be designed.

They censored her, you can call it "realistic, modern, practical" (the last one is just bs) or any other euphemism, they covered her up . They are using the sports bra to explain why her chest is blatantly smaller to anybody who is not blind or blind denial, they added stockings which make no sense on such a design to cover her legs, and they even added some sort of longer piece of clothing on her bottom (or a butt shield?) to avoid you staring at her arse.

This is the new "she looks realistic and badass" which in real life translates to "she is covered up more than the average man, and probably uglier too".

Dude, people are neither blind nor stupid. Keep your crusade, people have been telling this since the reveal. The design looks off and only people who are heavily invested pro-liberal censorship "like" it.
As for the small chances: well duh, of course they can change them, they are in the same exact positions. Shoes for feet, gloves for hands. You aren't adding or taking off. And some people even complained about lack of red gloves for that matter.

Square just shot itself in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about design culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like Resetera where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw a design, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is Gaf users, after reading this thread, are not going to want to buy any of Square's games again, nor will they play anymore of it games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Square has alienated an entire design philosophy with this move.

Square, publicly apologize and cease production or you can kiss your money goodbye.

I’m not sure if your trolling me or your just so blinded by Tifa not being a big tiddy girl that you can’t see your own foolishness. She’s wearing skorts and the thigh highs look better and hotter imo.

LOL

Assuming that people who like what you don't must be doing so for some obscure political reason is as irrational as sitting on a bag of urchins.

PS: you should not confuse "me" with "people."

A black non-detailed texture on skeleton legs makes no difference, which makes it even weirder as of why they felt the need to add it.

Because the Japanese absolutely love thigh-high stockings. Final Fantasy XIV's composer has pretty much become a meme for that fetish lol.

But you wouldn't know, because you seem interested only in what *you* like.

Calling it censorship is a bit much and a quick way to be ignored, but changing something just because it's realistic it's just dumb and yes, it's an excuse most of the time.

I really don’t understand this newfound obsession with realism and practicality, I find strange the fixation in the fact that she NEEDS a sports bra in the first place, since when do fictional characters need realistic and practical attire and since when do we care about a fictional character’s back problems? The line of what needs to be realistic is very arbitrary and is always about female characters, everyone and everything else can be unrealistic and impractical, except female characters.

Do you not like thighs? Every addition to her design looks awesome.

Do I like thighs? Yes. Does she have thighs? Less than Mr. Zip.

I know what ZR is and for the life of me I cannot fathom why would anybody look at Tifa's chicken legs and go "mmmh, those really could use some see of that".
It also comes from the culture of cute, which is a problem because Tifa is meant to be hot. Tifa is not Rin Tohsaka.

And what Agenda would that be?
Dunno, you need to ask them directly.
After been explained several times before, I just don't believe someone with good intention can still miss the point, so .... shrug.

Dude, there are rude awakening if you think FF VIIR been created with Japanese & Asian audience first in mind like Yakuza.
The game intended to be launch globally, on platform which sell more overseas and been made with global rating board policy in mind (their statement) and I bet like MHW, it will sell more overseas.
FF franchise have a decent fans in Japan but not as much as like DQ that make they exclusively adding stockings because Japanese love it.
