I will never understand that site and the smarmy insistence that everything is political.
Just the insufferable attitude towards anyone who is just like "nah man there is no deeper meaning to Mario, it's just a fun game".
Trump really did a number on some of these people. We're all supposed to care about the USA and Trump so EVERYTHING we consume must have a political, activist, angle to it. Then that angle must be discussed in great detail and anyone who disagrees is "part of the problem".
I wonder is it because they have become so obsessed with accusing, often anonymous, opponents of being the worst people ever, and also with looking for thought-traitors within their ranks, that escapism just doesn't work for them any more?
Sure, every game probably has room for several political interpretations but that doesn't mean the intent of the game was to send some deep message.
They keep treating games like books and movies, in my opinion, and the end result is forgetting some of the things that make games special as an entertainment medium.
PLUS they reserve the right to pivot on a dime to "oh are the angry man-babies upset about their electronic toys" whenever it suits them.
Does anyone know about Film Critic Hulk? That dude is a case study in this kind of thing, I reckon.
