As someone who's strictly an off-line single player console gamer and doesn't give two shits about online multi-player in any game, this is awesome news. All the money, time and resources that would have been spent into that aspect instead went into the single player story instead which im all for.
Plus, Sony is easily the best when it comes to story driven single player narrative games so why even bother doing what all the other publishers do with basically every one of their respective games? Let the third parties handle all the multi-player stuff and Sony can keep releasing game of the year winners baby!!! Whooo!!!

Last of Us multiplayer was the only reason I paid for PS Plus. Well, I guess they saved me on a PS Plus subscription.

i don't agree with this out of pure principle. If it was any other game I'd probably be screaming from the rooftops.
However, that multiplayer is crack. I played it almost every day for like 5 years, and followed-it from PS3 onto PS4. I WILL pay for it on it's own, because I know how fun it was the first go around. I feel like they've earnt that investment.
I don't think you can really get a stronger endorsement of TLOU1's MP than that. People are willing to pay for a quality product.

I didn't double dip TLOU Part 1 for multiplayer, so this is of no loss to me. I've watched other people play multi on Part 1, but never touched it myself. It's a fucking shame the platinum was held hostage behind it.

It took almost 24h someone to respond to my comment and confirm they're still playing that. Turns out it's not so dull if you'll try to look a bit further your nose and don't just say it's still relevant because I'm playing, you're minority, no offense intended. It"s an industry that's trying to make as much profit as possible and you can bet your life they care about numbers a lot and if the numbers don't live to expectations, that's a no go.

You don't get it pal. These are not just some amateurs running business from a basement. They have departments with bunch of analytics that look at actual statistics and analyze where $ can be made and not just please few gamers that'll play the damn thing. You do realize we live in a time of capitalism and corporations that are all about numbers(the bigger the better), at least you should if you're more than twelve yo.

In a case where a multiplayer mode is tacked on and isn't very good, it's annoying that resources were taken away from the campaign.
In this case, the multiplayer mode isn't tacked on at all and is amazing. So people are upset by its removal. It's extremely simple to understand.

No, you don't get it "pal". You're being overly dismissive and disrespectful toward ND MP fans.
MP games are the cash cow these days, they cost far less than SP games and they yield more profit. UC2 MP has DLC, UC3/TLOU1 have MTX and UC4 has lootboxes. They put those there for a reason.
You're not going to admit it (since you're obviously a SP-only casual that gets rekt in PvP games, hence the anti-MP bias), but it's the truth dictated by those analytics. Look it up and stop being biased:

Sure they looked at the data.
They looked at the data and decided to make a separate MP to make more money.
People assume that the multiplayer is dead or not good because 1) They don't hear about it 2) They think TLOU is known for its SP and think no one plays their MP.
I don't really hear about FF14, but I know many people play it.
I played TLOU a lot when I first got my PS4 in 2014. I still play it from time to time and the community is still active.
I think this move was to get the game out of the door as fast as possible. If they released it with MP, then they would've needed to release a beta, which would have probably delayed the game.
There are MP games that don't last this long after so many years. You don't need to be COD, Fortnite, Apex because all gamers don't play the same games.
People play NBA 2K and Madden online every single year and that's enough to support the online community.
They have something special with The Last of Us multiplayer and they should expand on it.

What I would do for a remaster of Uncharted 2’s multiplayer. Absolutely loved it. Liked 3 and 4 less because they started adding too much.

Enjoyable multiplayer games tend to last a lot longer in our libraries/game rotation, so I can totally imagine those that like both weighing the time factor into their purchase and thinking "I can wait on it and purchase it at a discount". Those that enjoy multiplayer want to be in on it on day 1 for obvious reasons of not wanting to get left behind the meta and mechanics. Story? Eh, depends on the person but I can wait on it.
