Bingo. Blackface is about minstrel show and white people ridiculing black people, intent shouldn't be ignored. If you never meant to mock anyone, your outfit isn't racist.

That's always been my view also. This notion that people have to somehow stay in their lanes on all sorts of issues lest they somehow cause offence to the perpetually trigger happy is beyond insanity. It's refreshing to see someone at least who isn't prepared to be bullied by this into apologising for something that most sane people wouldn't bat an eye about in the first place. The real disappointment is that Event Organisers capitulated to this sort of witch hunt hysteria in the first place.

How can it be black face, if she's wearing a mask.....?

So now if you're not black you can't wear anything but your own skin tone.......

Can I still wear a black Balaklava even tho I'm white?

That's incredible its the best cosplay i have ever seen (granted i haven't seen more then 5) , I wonder how many hours work she put into that ? I cant see why anyone would be upset when its a full body costume , however its another example of the pussifacation of modern society.

Apparently, only black people can cosplay black characters. But isn't that's the core definition of racism to begin with? And what about Asian characters then? Shouldn't all black and white people who cosplay all those anime/manga characters also be banned? And funny, because whenever black people cosplay white characters all of a sudden "we are all equal!!! <3 <3 <3"...

I don’t get it, how are you supposed to cosplay a dark or lite skinned character without using some sort of makeup to change color tone?
So stupid.
You're not. If you're white and you cosplay a dark skinned character without makeup you're whitewashing and if you use makeup you're wearing blackface...

Black people don't give a shit about this, it's literally white people complaining.
That's exactly spot on. And what I meant in my post is exactly what you replied. If I was black I'd actually be offended that other speak for me and what offends me etc. I've literally never once met a black person that gives a shit about this stuff.

Welll......that depends lol. There's a lack of nauce to the bolded in your post. Intention isn't the only thing that matters. Being ignorant only gets you so far. But again this cosplayer isn't even close to doing blackface.

I don't really know how anyone can feel offended by a representation of a dark (tan??) skinned fictional character that isn't mocking in any way, shape or form..

Just came from the other site and couldn't help but be amazed at some of the replies.
Think it's time to just start avoiding it entirely for my sanity's sake, it's all so black and white these days

that's some amazing cosplay

also it doesn't seem to have anything to do with historical blackface. she is not shoe polish black with bright red lips. seems like a bs controversy.

I’m sorry... I need to visit retard-era to see what limp-twisted psychopath actually finds this offensive.

Btw, she did a fantastic job. It’s not like she pulled a Trudeau here... now that... now that is pretty bad... but you know ... leftists protect their own pedophiles, rapists and are the most racist humans there is....

How in the world are people even finding this "offensive", rather than extremely impressive. Haters gonna hate for real.

Why because she's white? By that dumb ass logic, no other cosplayer should be allowed to dress as any other character that isn't also of their own ethnicity, which is fucking boring as it is dumb.

It is only bad when white people do it. And never bad to mimic Asian characters.

So what now? Are people who identify as white supposed to get offended who gets dressed up as Obi-wan kenobi for Halloween?

Like I’d rather say “Great job kid! He’s my favorite too!” Instead of accusing him of cultural appropriation of being racist. Why? Because anyone can like the same thing you do you dumbass retard-era basement troll gender neutral bitch. (Not u specifically of course).

If you don't intend to dress up in mockery, but instead do so respectfully and out of admiration, I don't see how that could be a bad thing. Maybe I'm missing something here. It's hard to even have this discussion when the example that caused it, this specific cosplayer, is so absurdly not malicious in any way lol.

Speaking as someone who has blackface every day of his life, that isn’t it. I also post at ERA and those dipshits banned anyone who pointed out the obvious - it isn’t black face. They claim constantly to not be an echo chamber, but every chance they get they ensure that it is one. Did the mods attempt to debate those who thought it wasn’t? Nope. Just immediately banned. I’m liberal, but even those dumbshits embarrass me.

Uuuh... let me get this straight.
- You're black.
- You told them you don't think that's blackface.
- They banned you because those white guys know better than you what's blackface.

I must have misunderstood.

OH! It's a bodysuit. :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Hell nah this isn't black face. And as a person that hates when white folk do "real" blackface, I think this cosplayer has cracked the code on how white people can pull this off. At least with fake characters (not about real humans like Jay-Z or Lebron outfits).

You’re telling me I can’t wear a freakish skinsuit of Kanye West?

Well there goes my Halloween plans.

Crazy to think something so awesome like this costume can be considered racist by certain people, this is why we can't have nice things anymore. The world has gone crazy.

Era has already started banning people for saying it's great or they don't think it's racist.

I'm sure if she did the character as her herself they would bitch about her being white & cosplaying a black character ,Shit never ends. Her cosplay is god damn good and in no way racist.

Also,Reset era is Aids. I'm so glad all those morons left here to go there.Nothing of value lost.

idk if I would even consider this black face theres a pretty clear difference and distinction.
its a pro cosplay.

I fucking love how in all this outrage on era, the amount of users banned because they didn't actually think it was racist hahaha. Halloween must be shit there if white people can't use black face make up.

Comicbook heroes, video game characters, avid Dungeons and Dragons player who wears a brown robe, uses a stolen flask from chemistry class and pretends to cast Heal spells..... who enjoys imagining and drawing figurines and artworks.

- Fictitious artwork
- Crazy character designs
- Content meant for imagination, fun, with out of this world feats of strength and skills
- It can be anything from humans to space aliens to lizardmen to gelantinous cubes with an IQ of 6
- It can be anything from Earth tones to neon coloured art

Who knew in 2019, someone can't have fun and dress up like their favourite imaginative character.

Didn't know that crazy looking League of Legends characters would be put on the same pedestal as Rosa Parks vs. the bus driver in 1955 Alabama.

Yup, let's ignore all of the black Gokus.

You know morons would just accuse her of white washing had she gone as is without designing the suit.
That's because the average Asian person (Oriental or East Indian) doesn't give a shit about petty stuff like playing dress up for two hours at a convention trade show.

If they are going to protest, it'll be something meaty like Harvard admissions where school work, merit and discriminatory admissions standards are put to the test, but I'm pretty sure I've never seen any Japanese person give a shit a non-Japanese person is dressing as an anime or videogame character.

The vast majority of black people don’t care either, it’s the “liberal” white savior Khaleesi Syndrome.

Banned: Defending blackface

I can't remember if it was here or era but someone cosplayed as Michonne and all the black people said it looked great, but a ton were banned because white people said the black people were wrong and it was offensive. Jesus Christ.
