The Last of Us Part II pushed back to May 29, 2020

Naughty Dog always does this, why did anyone think the game was releasing on release date? (even if it's announced relatively close to it).

Obviously it could be because of the official PS5 reveal, which I assume is in Feb 2020.

They're adding sixth and seventh dimensions to the stealth to compliment the added dog and heartbeat noises.

It's entirely possible that we could be looking at 8-dimensional hyperstealth by the time this all blows over. Keep your ear to the ground.

You are soooooo wrong.
Allie is seeking hormone therapy to transition into female male rambo to revenge her gay lover.
We all know how hard it is to get those in that world. So we wait till her transition is complete and we get to play the bad bad ass version of her.

I always felt that the game needed more time. Full team started working after The Lost Legacy (Aug, 2017). I was less worried after they showed 3 hours of the game to the press , but now i have fear. You can not do a game with this level of expectations and scope in just 2.5 years.

They probably have seen Knack 3 in action and thought "damn, we need to step up, we need more time".

I don't blame them. The beginning scene where Knack's daughter dies in his arms and all the little plastic and wood pieces slip through and fall to the ground is heart-wrenching.

This one is on management. someone is gonna lose their job over this.

But as ive been saying, Sony's insistence on keeping their studios small compared to other third party studios is pretty lame. ND should be a 500 person studio. With multiple teams working on different games. Making Lost Legacy was a mistake. they shouldve started development on TLOU2 asap. It's like they learned nothing from the left behind fiasco that ended with both directors getting fired.

Sony has acquired one studio this gen. one. a gen where they make billions every year from PS+ subs alone. They have shut down several studios. and while they have increased the size of their existing studios, its clearly not enough. Days Gone took 7 years. Ghost of Tshushima will take 6+ years. Horizon took 6+ years. GoW took 5+ years.

Hire more people. Make more people. you are a video game company. it shouldnt be this hard to make video games. Their games are excellent but i doubt its because teams are small and dev is more intimate. 200 person teams are massive so why pretend?

This seems very plausible actually.

A PS5 reveal around February would certainly impact the media cycles and could take mind share away from TLOU II.
Had Sony/Naughty Dog delayed it to March or April they would have to contend with marketing the game alongside 2 of the most highly anticipated titles of the year. FF VII Remake and Cyberpunk 2077, respectively.
End of May seems like the safest release window to ensure the marketing and sales of TLOU II isn't impacted or cannibalized by any competing titles or news like the PS5 reveal.

Another reason could be that they've hit a considerable snag in development that was cause for such delay; although It seems rather odd someone at Naughty Dog wouldn't have known and expressed that the game needed at least 3 more months in the oven, considering it hasn't even been a full month since they've announced the release date.

At the end of the day it gives the team more time to iron out even more kinks with the extra time.

Naughty Dog is already at 500 developers and they have more animators than most studios

if they announce the ps5 by then for the fall I may as well just wait for it like I waited for a PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2
TLOU1 came out right at the end of the PS3's life cycle & that didn't do it any harm in terms of critical acclaime & it was ported to PS4 anyway. I could see them doing the exact the same thing with this game.

First the MP "news" right on the most anticipated day by the entire world and now this. Someone at ND is making DISASTERS

With this being Sony's biggest exclusive, no surprise they have given ND as much time as they needed to get it perfect. Better than releasing something that fails to live up to the high exceptions that this game has.

At least I can focus in FF7 remake now and enjoy TLoU2 later in the year.

That's hilarious. Keeping the date unannounced and when they finally reveal it after years, it only took a few weeks to delay it. Pathetic.

Not releasing this game THIS year hurts SONY, but the delay is not lethal to SONY OVERALL.

After a month of work they realise the scope requires an extra three months of development and testing (crunch not helping or making it worse?). ND’s output this generation has been good, but less teller than it was on PS3 IMHO, mostly due to the volume of work rather than the technical aspects or quality of the end results.

It could be due to them trying something very polished and very ambitious, but hopefully this means that they learned lessons that will help them move faster on PS5.

Well they could still reveal PS5 and have The Last Of Us 2 remaster revealed too. I think its likely pushed back cause development. I'm 100% fine with this. Let them perfect it.

Doesn't really matter. It's a PS5 game anyway. And if they can avoid the crunch, then good! It's just a game, people can wait.

Why do people keep calling for delays just to launch with PS5? PS5 is supposed to be backwards compatible so in theory all PS4 games are already launching with it. Isn't that the whole point?

BC doesn't mean a remaster can't happen....

XONE is BC and you still got Gears remastered, Halo completely remade in a new engine, Bioshock and Borderlands got HD collections and they are still BC with XONE.

The publisher cares not if you own the original, they will still make a remake, remaster etc. Owning a PS4 and then buying a PS5 DOESN'T MEAN YOU OWN The Last Of Us 2 on PS4. They can still sell you The Last Of Us 2, remaster, GOTY edition, definitive edition etc. I don't know why folks think a publisher cares that you own the original. That is like saying you have a Bluray player combo with DVD player that upscale, thus they won't make a Titanic Bluray version, cause ohhhhh you have a player that plays both, let us not make more money, Kyle has one of those players and already owns Titanic, guess we better not seek to make more money lol The whole point was to allow you to have the option to play your older titles, not for them to NEVER remaster titles or remake titles etc. I always tell folks, in order to understand this....STOP thinking about yourself for 1 moment and think about the company's goals. It wasn't to NEVER make more money on remasters, it was to have the option to play older titles if you have them, the window to sell remasters, remakes will always be open because owning a PS4, does not mean you owned all games. I'm sure we'll even see a FFVII remake PS5 remaster at some point.

Think of it like this, PS3 was BC to PS1 native on all versions of PS3.....you still got PS1 titles ported to PSN, by that logic you should have thought "Why launch PS3 with PS1 ports, PS3 is supposed to be backwards compatible so in theory all PS1 games are already launching with it. Isn't that the whole point?"

The whole point for whom? Square? Capcom? Even Sony? The whole point was for them to NEVER remaster titles? Who told you this? If you want an idea of what will happen in the future, look to the past. BC doesn't stop remasters. Square or Capcom or Sony don't care that you own a copy of those past games, maybe they are not marketing to YOU but folks who never bought those originals.

As much as I loved and enjoyed the LoU1. However, if it even releases remotely close to Cyberpunk, I will just wait for the PS5 rerelease.
And how do you know that when the PS5 releases, it's going to be patched right away. People expecting them to have PS5 patch or update from Day 1 of PS5 release. Good luck with that, I bet it won't.

Who knows, they might make it priority considering its one of their top IP. So they could have a PS5 patch, they could have another team already remastering it for PS5 like a GOTY edition etc.

Ok, but I'm talking about these late gen games that are hardly going to see major improvements unlike a complete engine remaster of an older game like Gears, Borderlands, Bishock etc etc. And again I'm talking about launch. Did those games LAUNCH with BC on Xbox?

For example, Ghost of Tsushima, say they delay it to launch with PS5. You're telling me they're going to have a backwards compatible version of that game, and a paid
"remastered" version the same day? So my PS4 version on PS5 is not even gonna be worth the upgrade to PS5 since there is an even BETTER PS5 enhancement that I'm gonna have to pay again?

Obviously I'm expecting remasters still, but specifically delaying these games just to launch with PS5 only for there to be "remastered" versions doesn't make any sense to me.

But, Sony has hardly talked about how BC is going to be implemented so I don't wanna make too many assumptions, but I'm going to "assume" that games like The Last of us 2 and Ghosts of Tshuima will just receive an enhanced patch as I don't see any type of of huge "remastering" that could be done to those games to warrant a whole new purchase. They'll just print "PS4 and PS5 compatible" on the boxes when it comes to it. But I'll probably be wrong, cuz as you mention it's all about money.

I personally think from this gen to next, their is no real re-master. It's just going to be a patch at the bare minimum which probably has a more close to Native 4K resolution at 60fps. What are they gonna re-master exactly? The game is pretty much already next gen in graphical fidelity. We had a re-master between PS3 and PS4 because there was actually a bigger generational difference due to the hardware architecture.
