This is wrong, the OG 360 was a fucking jet engine compared to the PS3.

When you are running the code from the DVD/BR disk, there is no such thing as a quiet console. Didn't have PS3, but 360 was very loud (the first pro model I had especially, the little Jasper arcade unit I replaced it with was a little quieter, but not quiet).

Its fake. Modified from a 2018 Sony presentation.

With regards PS5, we've had a Sphere design, a Pyramid design...... I'm waiting for a Torus design (Donut) 😂 😂

Now after see RDNA 2 I have a doubt if the retailer xbox series x has 56 CU (maybe only the dev kit) because with those improvementis perfomance/watt (if are realistc and not in some specific workloads) 56 CU clock to less than 1.7 ghz see a little low ti that form factor.

Yup, I understood him ;) I was more like "poking" him in a friendly way :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I really like the devkit design with some final tweaks, and I have zero problems with XSX design as well and it could be a great design for skins and show offs. Still, not buying XSX anyway, will wait for Big Navi news.

Nah you know Xbox is like a Sith lord, you won't be able to resist in the end ;)

I'm okay with the design, but it's just a bit pedestrian. Late '80s/early '90s console designs are among my favorites, would always like if a new system channeled some of that aesthetic. I understand why it won't happen, but it's nice to dream.

That's what I've thought, too. But, I think MS could be looking to go as easy on cooling as possible depending on what Sony does, and that's why they've clocked it just low enough to hit 12. Could be a way of them to see where PS5 will fall and if it matches or exceeds them, they can adjust the clocks.

Because I would strongly suspect they have tested for stability at even higher clocks, but know that higher clocks may need a bit more on cooling vs. what they would probably need for 12TF. The design itself gives them the headroom to do it. Another reason they may choose to go for lower clocks even if they can go higher is because, quite honestly, they may not WANT to have a giant disparity vs. PS5 if in fact PS5 has a lower TF count comparatively.

Say they could clock it to 13TF, but PS5 sits at 12. They'd have to weigh whether to commit to the clock increase as it will push the BOM up a bit, and that adds up when talking millions of units. But they will have already tested well ahead of time if they could actually up that clock at a stable rate, they would just be sitting on it as a contingency plan.

At some point both companies have to cut off how far they can push clocks simply because the headroom is there, because if that raises the BOM too far outside their target MSRP, they can start bleeding too much money on each system sold.

But yeah, I think while MS and Sony basically know most of the specifics on each other's chips, MS doesn't know what clocks Sony actually has for PS5 and I think the 12TF news last week is sort of a bait or challenge to gauge where Sony actually lands and they can adjust accordingly. Kind of similar to the idea that Sony might be waiting on MS to talk about their price first to see where they are comfortable selling PS5 at in response.

Because I do think XSX is a 60CU chip, going by the die size estimates pegging it around 402mm2. If it has less CUs then that really asks what the hell else is on the chip taking up that much space!

First, amazing post.

I'll be the first to say I am not as well versed in this as some are.

But a swear that it wasn't until recently that the github data was thought to be a possible mix of Ariel and Oberon data in key areas.

Before recently It was mostly "the rtx and vrs were just turned off, not tested."

I could be wrong, like how for 2 months nobody saw that clip from the AMD engineer about both consoles having RDNA 2 that had both forums on fire.

We were still going on Oberon being Nav10. That's where most of the dur hur PS5 doesn't have ray tracing came from.

Yeah, even I thought for a while that Oberon's tests were actually testing the chip in its own profile but running regressions for PS4 and PS4 Pro compatibility hence no RT/VRS turned on. The Ariel iGPU profile bit's come more recently (at least to me) reading some posts on Beyond3D, mentioning Oberon was testing Ariel's testlists.

I think a lot of us were doubting either system had RDNA2 for a while, actually, because it was never made clear if RDNA2 was exclusive to 7nm EUV or not. Maybe only very few people knew but they didn't seem to post that often. Until yesterday I was thinking RDNA2 was a 7nm EUV thing and all of MS's talk about RDNA2 in XSX was them pulling RDNA2 features from the roadmap on a 7nm RDNA1 process node.

Kinda gotta point the finger to AMD for that one xD.

Not sure if talked about in here:

The chance of a supply chain disruption due to coronavirus is growing weekly. In order to build the ideal inventory for a November launch, I expect both companies to start increasing production in the 2nd quarter, so if factories do not return to full capacity by then, there is likely to be some restriction on shipments in preparation for the launch. In addition to assembling the consoles, it is difficult to predict at this stage whether the supply chain for components used on these consoles, several of which will be customized, will be affected or not.

My prediction:

PS5 snippets to be released within the next 4 weeks. I can foresee Sony building up on the current buzz created by actually not releasing anything and giving us just a silhouette, or a small snippet of DS5 and its new features. My reasoning for this is that they don't need to spend tons in marketing in order to be the talking point in new gen consoles, but are reaching a point where the "volatile" buyers may switch to XBSX simply because they are tired of Sony's non-engagement. With that said, full prediction (not an insider, nor I claim to be)

  1. Next 4 weeks - Snippet of PS5 design / DS5 design and features (at most, and I'd bet we will have a leak within the next couple of weeks).
  2. Before TLOU2 release - Confirmation that in game visuals and PS4 disk will be running in PS5 with Patch, so that users can enjoy the game now and then play a remastered version for free
  3. Before Tsushima release - Another snippet of PS5 design with some information on it's specs, without being super detailed (no TF talk)
  4. Aug / Sept - Full release of PS5 design with Pre-Order and release dates.
    1. I can see this as a 2 part release: first one confirms release date for Nov / Dec, second one, when pre-order opens, confirms full TF power.
    2. This would effectively cause Microsoft not to be able to bump the power of its console without having a patch developed
  5. Price prediction: anywhere between 500 to 600 euros / dollars.

Feel free to quote me.

Nah I'm more into Sony than a vegan to his diet :messenger_tears_of_joy: I really like the XSX design, have zero problems with it. I can even shove my whole PC inside the TV stand (cabinet?) which is 445 x 220 x 480 mm (17.5" x 8.7" x 18.9"). So, to me, it'll never be a problem at all, might be concerned with hot air circulation around there though, and got no issues putting it out or next to the TV. I don't see the console when gaming and would only want it to be matte black.

I would go the extra mile and pay like 2x-3x the price of an XSX for big navi if I wanted to play xbox games on my PC.:messenger_winking_tongue:

Well AMD said that the schedule for next-gen chips is not affected by Coronavirus.

Of course they talk only about AMD APUs production... others parts to assemble a console is with others companies.

I got it 13/3 March 13! Thanks mate

did they say it was RDNA 1? lmao
Better, it doesn't have hardware RT
_ Cerny said hardware 'accelerated' , that's software no dedicated CUs
_ Jim Ryan on CES presentation, jumped the RT on the board of the PS5 specs to avoid the conversation.

He kept repeating over on ree that Cerny lied about having HW RT and got a permaban. He came back here to spread his bs. Went back over there on an alt and got banned a 2nd time. Came back here again and keeps spreading the same bs over and over again.

Hey man, I am very surprised that DIGITAL FOUNDRY did not talk yet about RDNA2 on PS5. I mean it is 16:20 here in the UK and I cant find anything in their twitter, eurogamer.net or YouTube channel.

What is going on, man? :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Trigger my post if you think DF will make a PS5 RDNA 2 video. Like my post if you don't think they will.

I don't know pal, why did you trigger my post :messenger_tears_of_joy:. They sure were quick to make a video of 12TF for Xbox reveal on the 24th, same day.

That doesn't follow at all the narrative they are building in their articles since last year: PS5 is Navi 10 (RDNA1) at 9.2 tflops. They seem to be so convinced about that, they probably can't change their mind now. Or it's going to take time.
