Why Sony hasn't shown the PS5

Hobbygaming

has been asked to post in 'Grounded' mode.

A very short summary

Sony wants to have real-time gameplay ready to show for the reveal along with the PS5 retail unit and price

Sony are confident that the silence will be forgotten once they show their games

Both consoles are very powerful

PS5 has a lot of customization done with the geometry engine: primitive shaders, etc

The SSDs are a huge part of the next generation

Golgo 13

The Man With The Golden Dong
With the situation right now (AND THE ECONOMY), I suspect the ps5 to be postponed to the end of 2021.
Nope. Production in China has been back at full swing for awhile now, console isn’t being delayed. Also, what happens to the economy remains to be seen. They’ll adjust production according to market analytics (as companies always do) but the chance of them letting Microsoft launch a year before them is literally zero.

It really hasn’t.

Dont know about impact on specific plants relevant to PS5 and SeX production but in general terms China's production is still largely shut down in many areas.

They have 3 huge exclusive games left this year, maybe they don't want people to look too far forward towards PS5 just yet. Either way, I'm more worried about production issues than any other reason, they probably don't want to show their cards too early.

MS might talk about Google and Amazon being the competition, but Sony is not in any doubt about who their direct competition is.

Marketing, diehards or tryhards rather keep the talks going without having even getting a proper showing or all the tidbits.
Why would they want to unfold everything when they can drag things on a bit longer and keep momentum up?
The moment they post something or even farted it becomes a headline, fully knowing that why they ain't fretting.
It's practically April already, give or take 2 months more and I reckon everything will unfold - it has to if they want to launch this year.

I highly believe that Sony hasn't shown the PlayStation 5 Design and further Details about the PlayStation 5 until now because they are unsecure, and not as confident about their Product anymore than Microsoft are in the XBox Series X.
They just sold around 70 million more units than their competitor, I don't think they're that worried

They already said it will have a pretty sophisticated cooling solution. Nice try, not sure what your trying to accomplish with this low effort post.
I‘m guessing there waiting for there own show to reveal more info

So it's gonna be so disgusting that they want to shift away all the attention to games? Interesting approach if true.

Just as it was suppose to already happen after the specs reveal? Graphics don't impress me much nowadays, let alone seeing 10th UC2 clone/dad simulator in a row. Sony needs more variety like during PS3/PS2/PSX, Mattrick is no longer there to give them another free win, they will need to do better than that.

I'm sure it will. The question is - will you be able to actually find one at MSRP before late 2021? Same with Xbox.

Yeah, PS4 was actually around 600 for the first 6-9 months, and with current COVID situation I feel the history will repeat itself and there won't be enough supplies to cover the demand for next-gen consoles.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
Yeah that's what I was thinking too. I don't think they've ever made a full unveiling without some kick-ass technical demos, and even early footage of games that look incredible. The suspicion is that this time it's been taking a while to get it right. I expect greatness!

well, late 2021 seems a bit too much, but yeah, probably will be shortages for a few months.

A few months wouldn't be surprising under normal circumstances. One year might actually be generous. The Wii was nearly impossible to find in store for years.

The one wild card is people's disposable income whenever life gets back to normal. A lot of people aren't working and might not be in position to consider spending $500+ on an entertainment box.

PS4 has plenty of variety, and so will PS5

Yeah I agree, I think they might be going for a 2016 E3 kind of reveal as far as some big games being shown. Only time will tell

Its most likely not ready to be shown. They've been very quiet for this upcoming gen. They're probably behind schedule on a few things.

Sosokrates

Report me if I continue to console war
They could show it in November and still would be the best selling console by a large margin.

I think people are going to be surprised how competitive xbox is in native English speaking countries, Mexico and some euro countries.
Especially at launch. However I agree playstation will sell more consoles.

Mexico? Maybe last generation but not so Much this generation. Or maybe all I have is anecdotal information from all my friends switching to Playstation this gen.

They can't decide what colour to make it without risking insulting an ethnic group in 2020.

There is no doubt in my mind that the PS5 is behind schedule. To not even show the form factor at GDC is absolutely crazy to me. Unless Microsoft is really ahead of schedule, and maybe that made our expectations unrealistic a bit, but it just doesn’t make sense to me that we still don’t know what it looks like. What is there to hide at this point unless you’re still designing the thing.

If I had to guess I'd say they're waiting on 1 or 2 game demos to be finished along with waiting till after TLOU II ships

They said it will release this year.

The only worry is enough supply to cover demand but we know that will never happen with a PlayStation console in modern days.
Xbox has a higher chance to release this year.
Ps5 is using way more custom.parts outside the gpu cpu.

I do want it to release in november but until i see preorders go live i am not counting on it.

There is also peoples financial situation which is to say if this shit goes on for another 2 months or more people will be lucky to afford food .

Also if this shit goes on till the end of year no retail will be open so online orders only?
