I actually like the V design, hopefully it gets improved but keeps the same concept - V design fits under TV and designed for good cooling is good for me.
V shape design looks fresh in those boring designs. i don't expect, that they will have the balls to do it, but it would be fantastic to get one ;) it would be in line with Dualsense.

Well that’s fine, my only point was that it is not “obvious” and there are some claims being made that go against what we already know about gaming hardware.

I have not seen anyone claim the PS5 as a disaster. It’s clear Sony and Microsoft were aiming for a different price point at least in their own BOM, but I think you are shortchanging Microsoft by painting it as they just threw a bunch of power in a box, they’ve gone through some of the same lengths to remove bottlenecks and achieve maximum efficiency with the hardware they chose.

Devs will always make the most out of the hardware. I’m excited to see what Next Gen brings.
Agreed and yes, innovation is supposed to go against everything we know. You are right about MS and me not saying enough. I'm not short changing at all. It's just I always have had more to say for the item, person, or product that does more with seemingly less. MS is not playing and are doing more traditional things with more power. They seem to be innovating more than anything on the software end with traditional PC/console hybrid. I'm loving it. Sony just feels more console driven with their innovations and approach. Even I'm sure you know it will be cheaper due to the lower CU. So they did a lot of in house to keep things cost effective bringing some new ways of achieving parody so to speak. Like you I'm loving this and can't wait to play games. Oh and btw no smart ass intended. It's all over the news the past week about Sony getting delayed, overheating, having issues, being caught off guard, being scarred. Here as well. I almost believed after the TF reveal that it was true. After talking to my own people, going on the insider rollercoaster in here, and finally seeing the controller - I know they are on to something that we are underestimating. They are way to successful with PS4 to not rectify the fact that MS is tugging at their audience with their promise to the next generation with Sony's silence.

Oh yeah the heat stuff. I forgot about that. I’m sure that was overblown and Sony will have it under control but that’s another thing that’s an unknown/not precedented. Clocks that high are bound to run really hot, and we’ve heard about Sony investing in a advanced cooling solution. I’m extremely excited to see what that is. I want to see if they were able to still get it in a traditional console form factor or if they had to go PC-like, as Microsoft did. To me that would be a big deal if they could get all that power in a console box. That would be an advantage in itself over the Xbox.

And yes I agree the controller represents a change or something significant to me because they have not changed that thing in seemingly forever. Seems more revolution than evolution. I hope the hardware is the same.

I'm sorry but all the two tone ones just look like overalls or a tank top to me. It looks stupid and I've yet to see a combination that doesn't highlight how bad the lines stick out.

Solid color is the only way to go with what they designed here. Everything else looks like a Type R sticker slapped on a Honda Civic.

Did we find anything more out about Sony's "Shareplay 2.0" thing? It was something about sending friends sections of gameplay for them to play? I didn't really understand the point of it. Seemed like a half-step between brag clips and the already existing SharePlay where people takeover your gameplay.

Is this a rumor or something? This is the first I've ever heard of this.

Nope:
wow, so many Xbox fans on that list since yesterday. They really didn't appreciate the revolutionary new DualSensePlayStation®5 controller showing up out of the blue like that and raining on their parade.

I really don't understand why though. Inside Xbox was... good... wasn't it?

Those look terrible, basically every mockup that has colored button's symbols and PS logo looks off, like a cheap toy for kids, Sony's original design is sleek, sexy, modern, high-tech, they couldn't have done it any better IMO. The only scenario where the colored buttons and logo would fit is some sort of PSX-themed anniversary edition with the iconic gray.

It's the glassy face buttons. The colored face buttons don't look nearly as jarring to the white/black/lightbar color balance of they're were on black surfaces. Your brain seperates the buttons out as their own thing from the controller colors when you do that. Currently your mind glosses-ovee the button background color and counts it as part of the pad's background.

Someone photoshop it and you'll see what I mean.

Anyone watch Austin Evans video recently?

Dude seems to be capitalising of the next-gen hype big time, it’s concerning because he really doesn’t have any knowledge of next-gen consoles. If you watch his Series X video you could tell he was parroting information which the Microsoft team told him, it was a little cringe.

He uploaded a video soon after the Dualsense controller was revealed with a clickbait image of him holding it even though he didn’t actually have it. It’s not really a problem but he had such a huge platform and he can’t seem to give an informed breakdown/review of next-generation tech.
Yeah I noticed this too. Everything you said I was thinking yesterday.

Shouldn't we just let the ban list exist to clear up the thread, and leave it at that? Why try to fan the flames further when we can just move on and talk about consoles?

Yeah, I generally don't like that guy.

What's also bugging me about him is that he far too often seems to be unable to talk clearly.

Did you see this comparison? You're right, seems much thicker.

Good lord! PS5 controller needs to go on a diet. I really, really, hope it's comfortable to hold.

I hate the XB1 controller because it's so big and bulky. I have to stretch to get to the Xbox buttons in center. I hope that on PS5 controller I don't have to stretch thumbs to get to the PS button.

Hmm... I think the body and grips of of DS5 is designed intentionally like this so it more consistently makes maximum contact with the surface of your palms and fingers... specifically so you can feel the haptics as effectively as possible.

Holding the DS4, you are aware of how much empty space there is between you and the controller, which is fine for rumble, but won't work for haptics.

Could that be why the body has been flattened-out too?

The retail PS5 will handle the Variable clock. Devs will use the kits that are fixed, they dont have to optimize for it. We just don't understand it is all. None of us do enough. It's almost like when people thought the earth couldn't be round. Give it time, we will see what they truly are doing. I'm starting to think this isn't about damage control for Sony. We are the only one's warring. MS AND Sony are about to both kick ass approaching 2 different fighting styles.
When it’s hard to explain there’s often a reason you’re not told. No company would say variable clocks allowed us to claim more theoretical performance on paper and that’s the main reason why we have them. Not saying that’s what happened but until we see the advantage it brings..
Also I can’t believe developers are using kits which clocks that are managed differently than in the retail unit. That’s a first for sure.

I don’t think they’d ever offer no choice of good traditional cable options though.
This. Bluetooth audio quality just doesn't compare to what you get with wired headphones, and I don't think it ever will. There's a reason all high-end audiophile headphones have cables. The best situation would be if you're able to use nice wired headphones and the mic on the controller at the same time. That way you're not compromising quality in any way.

While I agree that it is unlikely to not offer options to use your wired headphones, it isn't REALLY wired, since the controller itself connects to the main box wirelessly.

Right....this is very true. I didn't even consider that part of it. Haha *facepalm*

I guess you'd have to get an optical headphone amp, connect that to the optical out on the PS5, then run your headphones from there.

Specifically with Sony LDAC and Hi-Res Audio (upscaling), in optimal interference conditions I doubt many audiophiles could tell the difference – in a negative way - if their wired phones plugged into a Sony Hi-res LDAC capable bluetooth headset (eg Sony SB-HS2) or directly cabled to the LDAC bluetooth audio source.

If Sony are using LDAC for the transport between pad and console, and they have a hi-res upscaling chip in the pad then you won’t be disappointed in the audio quality through high-end phones.

I didn't even know that existed! Good to know. It would be awesome if Sony implemented that type of thing.

I'm used to dealing with headphones and gear on the music engineering (mixing/mastering) side of things, so bluetooth audio isn't something I necessarily keep up with.

Just by looking at the picture you can instantly tell how bad DS4 is compared to the rest, you can clearly see how seriously it lacks the build quality.
I like the colored logo, is like a touch of nostalgia linking the past and future.

for me the white one is much more sexy.

Btw, do we know if the touchpad has a screen yet? That would be so awesome and a great surprise... would be so cool for a tiny inventory with 4 items and next/previous page arrows :)

That’s no surprise, despite the audio quality in Sony’s best products being truly amazing they’ve stopped making the argument for the products on that basis, beyond a niche audience. The masses of customers they lost to ipod from walkman - because of their lack of proactive decision to abandon DRM – seemingly can’t be won back, and that’s why even audiophiles like yourself won’t know about their technology developments.

The prices of Sony’s headphones and Walkmans make me think that I’m not quite in that niche, but I’ve been buying Sony smartphones forever(currently have an Xperia 1) and so the walkman technology is always in them.

They would have announced it already, like for the back buttons I suppose: I wouldn't expect them, they talked about the controller many times and not once they even hinted at back buttons. This is basically the reveal of the controller, this should be the time to say things.
Also, to be honest the screen thing is kind of pointless, while gaming you shouldn't have any reason to stop looking at the TV, consulting an inventory or a map could let you loose stuff happening. And I think could completely fuck the battery life and increase the cost.
