I heard two things recently. One sony pricing was being set on july13th to the public. That eb games already has pricing on ps5. I started a thread but it was closed since people here can be very jaded, but dont be surprised at a $599 price tag is what im currently expecting.
The unit is large and has a large cooling system that sounds expensive. Its not out of question as we saw it once from ps3.
MS said flat out they are waiting for sony to announce price. This is what good competition does. Its good for the consumer.
Series X
Nothing shows intelligence like generalization.
Recent history has told us that gaming is one of the pastimes and one of the businesses that benefits in economically difficult times. It’s quite logical, people don’t have the money to go out so they stay at home.
Now, who knows how this recession is going to look, how deep it will be and how long it will last. It could be that the historic templates, the historic models that have applied in the past may not apply in the future.
I think the best way that we can address this is by providing the best possible value proposition that we can. I don’t necessarily mean lowest price.
We’re getting incredible support from Microsoft. Satya Nadella, the CEO, my boss, Amy Hood, the CFO, they’re very linked in to what our plans are. We’re going to make sure that we stay agile on our pricing and that we have a good plan going into launch
The thing I'm probably focused on the most is the macro-economic environment. We see the impact of people getting furloughed and layoffs. It's tough. And we are a leisure activity. We're not a requirement. We're not food. We're not shelter. So we want to be really tuned in to that as we launch. How can we make it as affordable as possible?
I'm guessing based on the cost of the gen4 SSD and cooling solution Sony has gone with (blower-style fans mounted on both sides of the main PCB) and the much more complicated build of the console itself that the disc version will be $599.99. The DE will be $499.99 and be their loss leader. Expansion drives are NVMe, but gen 4 NVMe drives are currently prohibitively expensive with 5 GB/s 1TB drives sitting near $300. Cuurently there isn't a 5.5GB/s+ NVMe drive on the market but I expect the 1TB Samsung 980 Pro will be priced equal or higher than the current 1TB 970 Evo which is currently $270.
The Xbox looks like it's designed to be assembled quickly and it's quite simple in terms of materials (no flashy bits like glowing lights). The cooling solution consists of a single 120mm fan and a well-planned pcb arrangement. The whole thing is so simple to assemble that game journalists were doing it at their reveal event. I expect the Series S will be $299.99 and the Series X will be the same $499.9 as the PS5 DE. I expect a Series X DE will be shown and will also sell for $499.99 but will include a 1TB expansion drive in the box. I expect expansion drive pricing will be $129.99 for 1TB, and $179.99 for 2 TB.
Neither wants to announce first to avoid a similar situation to Sony's mic drop moments with both the Playstation and the PS4. Sony will try to avoid a PS3 scenario as well.
Jim Ryan has stated:
He sees current economic turmoil with people stuck at home as a platform to justify higher pricing. Hoping that people will spend more for entertainment at home. Historically models show $499 is about the ceiling for console pricing as anything above that tends to become a meme. Softening the $599 price point by talking about overall value.
Phil has has stated:
He sees that a financial downturn leaves many people with little after bills are paid and no rational person is buying a new gaming console when they might not make rent that month. I think the strategy will be to offer an entry-level model at a cheap price, and have the top model accessible so that people thinking about playing the new games might see the $299.99 price and be able to justify it. Some might still leave the showroom with the X.
Two very different opinions on how the economy will be affecting the purchase of their products. I know for a lot of the people I work with, they couldn't justify the X1X or PS4 Pro consoles and stuck with the launch versions of each. Of those, most bought PS4s and Xbones after the first price drop. That was during a stronger economy and they are all taking home $50-70K a year.
I really think a cheaper Series S as an alternative to the main systems will sell really well assuming Microsoft can get some hype rolling with their game reveals and take back the casual audience they lost with the Xbone. The PS1, PS2, Wii and Switch are all good indicators that pricing is just as important as hardware capability. If Microsoft can get the price to be as impressive as the hardware capability they should be able to make some serious headway.
On the other hand, maybe everything I wrote is wrong and the Atari VCS will put Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft out of business.
Lol right and what sony is doing is "strategy"?
It is not just the price of the console it is games and extra controller for families. It can bring day 1 cost with tax to well over 600 dollars usd that is for 1 console lots of families have 2 one for each kid so your looking at 1100 usd i removed the controller. With lockheart and gamepass a family can walk out spending less than 400 usd for a set up with extra controller. If they already had a xbox it is closer to 320 usd. For multiple console families that is 800 or 700 usf vs 1100 dollars that huge and could get a lot of people on board years before they normally would. As someone who has live on both sides economically, I can tell you that prices does not matter if people are struggling financially to that extent.
If people can't make rent or keep up with bills they are not buying a new system no matter if its $300 or $500 and i think that's the point that people are missing here.
I think at the end of the day the games are wayyyyy more important than the price and that is MS's biggest issue
Sony isn't talking about a "lockhart" because they know the PS5 will sell well even at $500 because they have always delivered with good exclusive titles.
The PS3 launched at an unheard of price of $600 and they still outsold MS even though the 360 had a 1 year head start and was $200 cheaper because Sony has better games ....
I'm past the point of believing they are playing chicken with Sony. I'm now assuming the supply will be extremely limited and very expensive.
Amount of territories means nothing. All about available units. I hope you're right by the way.Actually both have indicated and reiterated a global launch (as in within a month in all major territories)? That will be a first for Sony and Microsoft I think.
They must be making more launch units available for November than any of their console launches before. They also seem to have started production a good time earlier too going by reports, which again points to more units.

Ok let me try this, sourcePulling these outta my ass but i'm pretty sure the prices will be
PS5 digital - $399
PS5 physical - $499
Xbox Series S - $299
Xbox Serie X - $499 or $550
Don't see how the S can be any cheaper.
There is zero percent chance at 599.99-499.99 from Sony the marketing team is not stupid the memes from the ps3 would write themselves. The absolute high price would be 499.99 -549.99 for the 2. I can't see Microsoft going over 499.99 they are not stupid they have zero mindshare and can't charge a crazy price to start or end doa like last time.Ok let me try this, source
PS5 digital 499$
PS5 physic 549$/599$
Xbox Series S 299$
Xbox Series X 549$/599$

I agree but i was thinking about the digital version, IMO the 50$ cut between the standard and DE doesn't make sense, for me if i see a 100$ difference it might convince more people to get the DE but 50$ wont attract people to buy it.There is zero percent chance at 599.99-499.99 from Sony the marketing team is not stupid the memes from the ps3 would write themselves. Not everyone wants to give each kid a 299.99 breakable losable device. Especially since dad can play a game or 2 when everyone goes to bed like the old days. This is MS we are talking about not Nintendo
Lots of people are going digital anyways so the smaller device with any savings is cool. Also the 100 dollar is not needed these will be in short supply people will take what they can take. Sony could save a a few hundred million dollars on the first 5 million discless units. Hell they could be dicks and short supply the disc version lol they have mindshare people will eat any shit sandwich Sony serves up.I agree but i was thinking about the digital version, IMO the 50$ cut between the standard and DE doesn't make sense, for me if i see a 100$ difference it might convince more people to get the DE but 50$ wont attract people to buy it.
Sony will make more money from the digital edition because they get more % (money) from games sold on the store, that's why 100$ price difference make more sense. Not everyone wants to give each kid a 299.99 breakable losable device. The cyberpunk bundle was the last one x to be produced. Im sure the xbox one is also discontinued. Microsoft is way a head on hardware compared to the usual generation. If the software was ready I think they could do a September launch.Has anyone noticed that Xbox one is sold old anywhere for month now. It is like Microsoft is not producing or restocking them anymore. This has driven the price on ebay way higher than MSRP. Maybe they are using the production line to produce XSX now.

don't forget the SSD is not even 1TB, even 1TB is not enough for next gen games (File size).
Kinda worrisome people see more value in the PS5 and expect it to be more expensive even thought its not the most powerful console."Today, we announce the PS5 will be FREE for everyone!"
MS - "Errr, well ours costs less than free! Eat dick Sony!"
I'm not expecting Microsoft or Sony to announce the prices and release date until late August when pre-orders go live. I'm sticking with the same predictions that I have had for months.
November 6th
Xbox Series S - $300
Xbox Series X - $500
November 20th
PlayStation 5 Digital - $500
PlayStation 5 Disc - $600
End of the day, no fucker knows till the prices are actually announced. It’s all fun and games guessing.Kinda worrisome people see more value in the PS5 and expect it to be more expensive even thought its not the most powerful console.
This situation confirms what I have long suspected. Whoever reveals last has the pricing reveal advantage. All of these E3 expo conferences from years past always had folks saying that it didn't matter who revealed first because the prices were already set well before that time. I always was under the impression that the "set in stone" price for reveals was probably decided on really close to showtime. Especially if you reveal last. Sony had been very smart always choosing to last.
Fast forward to now and it's the same old game. Whoever reveals last has the pricing reveal advantage. Took MS long enough to finally get hip to it.
I still can't believe a thread was shut down just for discussing it? It's no secret as you mention. The new consoles will be expensive. I'm more interested in seeing if they come up with creative payment options, like $400 if you sign up for 2 years of gamepass, or $299 if you sign up for a 3 year contract. There's no reason consoles can't be subsidized like cell phones.
What thread was shut down?
Oh most definitely someone has to go first. We just get to see the game of chicken being played out in the open for all to see. My suspision is this game isn't a new thing in the videogame industry. Not by a long shot for anyone who has been paying attention close enough these past few gens. But it will/is getting silly. One will have to 'go first' even if that is by hours. Let's see if there is any truth to that 13th July rumour for PS5 price.
We will see if that was right. 699 CAD sucksI need to find it but I believe that oldergamer said that a retailer told him what the PS5 price would be.
I'll get back to you once I find it.
Edit: Found it.
PS5 price $599 USD and $699 CAD
An industry friend of mine just told me he heard from his contact at the ebgames head office. The price he told him was in the range of $599 USD for ps5. 699 CADwww.neogaf.com
I can see why it was shut down. It wasn't just a discussion on what the possible price might me. It was actually a claim to information from within the industry. I usually don't have an issue with this if it comes from an insider, or in your case, is actually vetted by the mods.
We will see if that was right. 699 CAD sucks
