Next-Gen PS5 & XSX |OT| Console tEch threaD

Sorry i'm just really disappointed with both Sony and Microsoft at this point. Feels extremely lackluster for a next gen launch. :(
Console launches are almost always lame. It's just the way it is until the good stuff rolls around. Not every launch can contain hits like ESPN International Track and Field, FantaVision, and Evergrace. We can't always live in that world, but we can one day hope to live in it again.

U r disappointed at ms and in ur world sony doesn't even exist to begin with (as we know u here already) so by sticking them together u find peace which is understandable coping mechanism. U do u but as a PS fan I m extremely happy and can't wait.

They have fixed the shadows but I think they have reduced the quality of the lighting? Could new trailer be the 60fps version?

There were some very smooth animations that made me wonder if it was running at 60 fps.
they seem to have removed the dramatic moon lighting and replaced it with a different, more uniform light source coming from the left. Not sure why, the original did look better

Exactly. He is so depressed with nextgen xbox situation is looking worse than currentgen in the moment that he developed coping mechanism and he thinks that everybody is depressed with their consoles of choice.

Guess what, playstatiom fans are getting:
- gameplays running on hardware 3 months before release
- exclusives games sooner than 3 years after launch

So there is need for you to be upset, but dont take it on playstation. Because Sony and their fans are doing fine.

Entire game worlds?

Ok so you're telling me that those weren't just large beautiful set pieces loaded in succession as Ratchet zipped through each of them to his final destination where you can tell that the camera jerks a bit freeing itself to give you control of the character again?

If at any point through each of those transitions they let the player stop chasing Dr Nefarious and instead NOT warp forward to the next set piece and instead turn around and start freely exploring this huge entire new world i would agree with you.

I'm sorry but i feel like you are kind of reaching here stating that he is warping through entire worlds when the camera has your character on a set path facing the direction the developers intend for you to see until it loads up the world you are actually able to start exploring again.

***To be clear also, i've said this game looks GREAT. I really like the Ratchet and Clank series i just feel like people are blowing stuff like this out of proportion because we are desperate for next gen advancements that we really haven't seen much of yet.

What do you mean by ‘set piece’? Do you mean a pre-rendered CG environment? Something that’s not in engine? Because all of what you saw in that demo was clearly in engine. And what does the camera path have to do with it? A fixed camera or a dynamic camera still has to traverse a three dimensional game environment that requires multiple assets. Okay, this is made somewhat easier by using only high LOD assets up close, and less detailed ones further away to reduce load, but an entire 3d environment is a very big thing in terms of how much resource it uses - whether it be for an open world game, or a linear experience like Uncharted. And it’s quite a huge achievement that they are able to load them in after one another with no loading times.

Would you be more accepting of what you saw if the console in question had an X in its name?

I'd still like to understand what the difference is between gameplay and scripted gameplay apart from the second being, as the name indicates, scripted. It's still rendered in real time, it's still in engine, and looks exactly the same as the player made one, but is replicable.

I am still fascinated how the election of the avatar, even the color of the same is of course not related to any kind of preference
or doesn't exist the necessity to say one console is doing the things wrong because is not the same RGB as you like it.

I think the PS5 is already set for launch. It ships with Astrobot pre-installed in each PS5. You have Spider-Man: MM, Ratchet & Clank, and Demon's Souls Remake. Potentially, Gran Turismo 7 and LittleBigPlanet will be out within a year of launch, too.

It's the XSX that's more concerning thanks to Halo Infinite's (much needed) delay.

Don't forget Destruction Allstars and Returnal, plus plenty of 3rd party (some timed exclusive) games.

Not really because they are under two seconds. Elevators are usually used when the load times are alot longer. Like in Mass Effect for example.

Edit: Now that ice thought about the only elevator that I've seen recently was in Halo Infinite.

People are misunderstanding the "no more elevators in next gen thanks to the SSD".

It's mostly like no more elevators/tricks for hiding loading times

Of course there's still gonna be elevators, but mostly because it's a part of game design, nothing to have with loading times this time around because of the SSD speed.

From the same guys who believe the PR of 100 GB of instant access are now saying "look how the game has loading screens hidden".

I mean yeah PS5 still be a device of the 2020 but can complete reload a level in a couple seconds compare to minutes we have in
the current gen but yeah you know disappointing.

Also is not like you can just put the user in the new scenario without worry of the transition and even more are launch titles.

The bad thing about this where are going to see most of them when channel like DF analyze the third parties this end of the year, the first party are necessary.

Assuming R&C is doing a full load / unload cycle of RAM, and with the confirmation that what we saw as indeed all gameplay, the absurd speed of PS5's SSD and IO are confirmed. Less than 2 seconds to load a new world implies that, worst case (2 full seconds) they would be loading 6.75GB per second into RAM (if they are loading 13.5GB), which is godlike tiers of loading speeds. Most universal changes occur between 1 and 1.8 sec, so it can go as far as 10+GB sec, as promised.

Simply incredible.

Yes don't forget the animation for the portal is included in this as it can only show once loaded I think and takes a small amount if time up.

Also PS5 might only use 2gb for OS so have 14gb so a little more to load and therefore a little bit more impressive.

Most loads seem to be under 2 seconds as you say so thwy have delivered.

Also its now a demo from at least May, its been polished but may be more improvements to come in final build.

This is but one developer teams impressive achievement and a launch game, imagine what others will try and do.

Instead of a complete switch of assets you could keep the shell of a level and switch between designs at even faster speeds or something. Theres tons of possibilities.

Maybe what we thought the medium might do, but turned out to just be a cutscene 🤣

Funnily enough what some xbox crowd said Ratchet was. More fake news bites the dust.

Now let's wait for Horizon to be gameplay on the parts I mentioned a while back.

The haters still claim its not but one by one their doubt is proved wrong.

HFW had gampley in it, doubters think and learn.

It looks average, might try it out if it turns out to be good. It really reminds me of Doom 3

It appears to be running on PS5, another 4K PS5 game? no way!

I liked the premise/story setting, but this is definitely not a graphical showcase. Well, if small teams can deliver this at 4K60 on the PS5, I guess next-gen will be much more interesting on the indie side. I'm tired of 2D sidescrollers or cell-shaded indies.

Oh jeez I hope they are not setting people's expectations that high.

Lol, or low either. So far, outside of Minecraft, there hasn’t been a single game seen running on a Series X.

Honestly, the hardware is capable of some amazing stuff and we all know it. It isn’t likely the if, but the when.

Honestly if they don't show any gameplay on the XSX before launch then there will probably be a delay.

They have to show it soon.

I was being super conservative on my calculations because let's face it, some of the assets may be reused, and you will not be unloading and reloading the full ram in all scenarios. But they did deliver in everything
  • Native 4k
  • Amazing audio
  • Little to no loading times
  • Ray Tracing

Good news. You can play those OLD last gen launch games on your XSX.

Whilst we play the NEW launch games on PS5.

I'm actually really excited to play my current gen games at the best possible quality and with quick loading. Why is that a dig? I am 100% aware of Microsoft's PC upgrade like approach where the customer continues to play all their old games at the best settings. I've never been able to afford a really good PC so I'm excited about that. It's also going to get some really awesome games that take advantage of the next gen features in a couple of years.
