Im becoming concerned at the lack of communication from Sony

We are now literally two months from launch and we have had absolutely nothing from sony about PS5 since the July event.

We are yet to get any deep dives of the OS, the new share features, the hardware itself (ports anyone?) the external memory card solution, PSNow and information pertaining to next gen VR.
Let alone pricing and pre ordering dates.

Personally im all in for the digital edition but with xbox stealing all the headlines just now, im worried about what they are doing over there. Im really hoping for demons souls at launch but do you guys think sony will be forced to try and match the xss pricing for the digital edition?

I'm not. As a functioning person who can think for themselves, I don't need a company telling me every waking moment to get hype about something. When they'll tell you, they'll tell you.

While we’d all like to see more information as fans, the radio silence is not indicative of anything to be worried about on a business level.

Sony have sold 110 million PS4s. PlayStation’s profits exceed XBox’s entire revenue. Social and traditional media mindshare is with PlayStation.

They will announce stuff when they think it will have most impact, and that isn’t right after the competition have had their turn.

Expect things to get moving in the next two weeks, or so... but appreciate the fact that they could leave it until a month before launch, and still sell out.

We know they're manufacturing a large number of consoles, and even upped the amount they were targeting. So, I wouldn't be too concerned. The issues are likely logistical, and stem from COVID-19. Organising a global consume electronics launch when most countries' medical experts are wisely advising people to avoid unnecessary contact and working from home where possible can't be easy.

No need to worry. SONY is best known for media blowouts. Their next presser is sure to be just that as they have many things to cover at once.

In terms of pricing and launch dates i completely understand them waiting on ms. But to not even show things like the OS, the new share functionality, hardware breakdown.....just seems odd to me. Maybe they arent showing ports in the back as it could allude to psvr2.0 direction in terms of another breakout box again? I dont know lol

The good thing is that Sony isn't concerned.

People are so reactionary, its actually laughable.

  • April last year, Mark Cerny has his WIRED interview: "Wow, Sony have already started drip feeding info already. Damn where are Microsoft, what are they doing? They're losing the mindshare...."
  • E3 2019, Microsoft announces Series X: "Where's Sony's conference, they didn't show up at E3. Microsoft is running away with the mindshare, Sony must respond"
  • Christmas 2019, Microsoft reveals Series X design, followed up by the March(?) reveal of specs: "Microsoft are really killing it with the mindshare and getting gamers excited! What are Sony doing?"
  • Sony shows their specs: "Wow, its weaker than the Series X, but the SSD is so fast, Microsoft are pulling away!
  • Sony shows the Dualsense: "Wow the reaction to the DualSense is higher than the Series X. Sony's doing so well with their reveals"
  • Sony reveals the PS5 Design with some games: "Sony's doing pretty well, we need some more games and stuff though. The design is marmite, but Sony are coming out swining, they're winning more mindshare"
  • Halo and Craig announce themselves: "Wow Microsoft really dropped the ball here, Sony's game show case was so much better they're really losing the mindshare over here. I'm concerned about the games"
  • Microsoft announce the price of the Series X and S: "What's Sony doing!!?? I'm concerned, Microsoft are running away with the hype!"

Fucking give it a rest already. Christ above.
The fact that Microsoft and/or Sony do something and then your mind immediately moves to how Sony and/or Microsoft will respond, or why they haven't responded, is ample proof enough that its all working.
Microsoft announces pricing, and people immediately start talking about the PS5 and how that's going to be priced. They don't need to do shit to get you to think about them.

Honestly, baffling takes all around here.

1) Literally every time they do anything, it's the most hyped, interacted with thing in all of gaming for that week
2) Xbox just announced prices today

Expect more news soon, but they seem to know what they're doing.

Neither Sony nor Microsoft need to dominate the headlines right now -- they need to dominate them when pre-orders go live and again when the devices release. It seems like both parties are aiming for a more concentrated burst of PR in the lead-up to release -- Microsoft's hand just got forced (or they forced it themselves via a controlled leak, whatever) a little earlier. Naturally, neither company wants their customers to actually think about their purchases and don't want to give them the time to do so. MS wants people reacting to the price and performance combination, Sony seems to be angling more towards the games.

It'll all be fine. None of this will make any difference to the consoles, nor the games, nor which console you buy. You'll be sucked in by the flashy PR hype just like everyone else (or not, in which case 6 months of unimpressive hype wouldn't help either).

My friend who is a Nintendo fanboy who hates Sony says the PS5 is dead on arrival anyway.

Also, Microsoft cornered Sony and forced them to release the ps5 at $499 and they are taking a massive loss on each console.

He knows I'm a massive Sony fan so he sent me this. :messenger_confounded: :messenger_confounded: :messenger_confounded:

do you guys think sony will be forced to try and match the xss pricing for the digital edition?

No. In fact, I'm willing to bet that they (Sony) expected the XSS to come in at $300 or less, so whatever the PS5 DE's price ends up being, it was decided that way months (if not years) ago.

The bigger question is what happens when the more powerful and (assumed) more expensive PS5 outsells the less powerful and much cheaper Xbox? Because if the XSS doesn't crush it in sales, developers will have zero incentive to spend more time, energy, and money to downgrade their games for 1 underperforming platform.

I couldn't imagine being this outta touch with reality. You my inbred friend need to take a set at the tiny table. And eat your corn.

I would not worry about anything and I am an Xbox guy. I think Next week was suppose to be the news drop week for both companies . Just MS stuff got leaked a week early . I am sure Sony is going to drop their news before next Friday .

So silence from Microsoft equals desperation, silence from Sony is big brain strategy. Got it. 🙄
