Final Fantasy XVI announced

I'm fine with this approach if the art style is strong. Souls games come out every 2-3 years from a smaller studio than SQEX. They need to get back to putting out 2-3 major RPGs each gen.
I think they will, they finally moved on from Luminous, they let the one team that took 10 years to learn that shit to stick with it, and moved every other Dev team to Unreal engine.

Edit: Forgot about Crystal Tools.

Can anyone tell me how is the FF XIV Side quests? I'm not into MMO and i'm curious how Yoshi P does side quests.
I want SE to move away from fetch quests so bad.
The side quests in XV are absolutely atrocious, and the ones in FFVIIR are the worst part of the game by far as well, they really got to step up on that department.
I
If we're talking pure side quests, then it's your usual MMO stuff. But the Side Story Quests are absolutely amazing. From foreshadowing and setting up main plot points, to expanding the lore, to downright hilarious shit. The effort in them is insane.

in 2.0 A Realm Reborn there lot of fetch quest but each quest have storyline too it but not voiced. On expansion onward, quest get better. Less fetch and more focus. It MMO though so that kind of quest is common.

Not Ninja Gaiden, Nioh, Demon's Souls, Dragon's Dogma, Metal Gear Rising, off the top of my head.

I play all the DMC off-shoots, and will get Bayonetta 3. But I'm honestly just sick of it is all I'm saying. And we're also getting Babylon's Fall, and Bayonetta 3, and probably another Platinum Games Nier game. I just wish they tried new stuff since so many games do it. I wish the main guy behind DMC V made something new. It's not bad, just repetitive.

Big disagree,

I feel like we only get a really great implementation of this kind of combat maybe once a year if we're lucky.
Until this genre is atleast a quarter as big as shooters are I won't be bothered.

Honestly I rarely did quests outside of the main scenario for leveling, I mainly did fates.
But the quests that I did do were alright and didn't only involve fighting or fetch quests, there was a lot of dialogue and short stories being told and some really unique ones.

Some of them basically were their own storylines, same with the crafting they basically had their own story in a sense and a lot of side-quests gives special rewards like dances, emotes or mog gear etc.

The Manderville storyline especially is pretty funny and they keep adding to it and you get a lot of fun emotes and rewards from it.

Hilidibrand quest is gold! hillarious parody quest. Cant wait for next episode. Its like when the devs going wild and go full anime.

This is what we need in the future, not the nonsense from the past few games.
XV side quests:
- Go fetch that dog tag for me
- Go take a picture with a camera of X or Y for me.
- Go kill that monster for me
- Go pick up some frogs for me.
- Go fetch some ingredients for me
VIIR side quests:
- Go kill some rats for me
- Go grab my cats for me
- Go destroy some boxes

SE please, move on from this stuff, it only hurts the overall experience.

As much as I couldn’t stand the final product of 13, the build-up from the trailer all those years was interesting. I say this because I’m surprised they didn’t slap a pre-recorded synced UI over gameplay footage for this new XVI trailer. It was interesting seeing how much had changed between the trailers, the demo, and the final product in XIII’s case.

What it looks like is they pooled last gen assets into their newest engine, which has yet to get final specifications. This, compounded by their usual inability to have any definite direction to their project, probably made for a rough and underwhelming trailer to many.

Article doesn’t provide proof that it will come to Xbox for sure.

Seems like it could follow Rise of the Tomb Raider and FF7 Remake.

More info in 2021. So 2022 release or later?

Also was the last one even profitable? Didn't they spend millions on a promotional cgi movie in addition to the game?

I was extremely excited when I heard about the announcement. But while watching the trailer I was a bit disappointed by the realistic look they went for.

Still in the end the medieval like setting looks nice for me.
Just the environment looks empty.

I am fine with action combat. This one might look a bit too flashy and over the top still...
Wait and see...

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

Tbh, if you’re a fan of FF and JRPGs, it’s best you go where it will appear for sure (hint: it’s not the Xbox).

The graphics look like isn’t pushing not even a Ps4 pro, but the aesthetic saved, stepping away from animey pop stars, les obnoxious design - to me in long time since FF9 , I’m starting this one on right foot

Honestly, if this game will be much better than the previous FFs and isn’t linear approached (visit multiple towns, do inter-town sidequests, explore the field, story is in place) even if it’s sacrificing the graphics a little bit, then I’m all for it.

Some blue checkmarks are saying the game is being developed using an upgraded version of Crystal Tools, that makes a lot of sense actually.

I’m a Mario and Zelda fan as well and glad I got a switch and not a wiiU (not dating ps5 is a wiiU, just giving an example of being patient)

What the hell is this an online mmo or a singleplayer rpg like ff7?

Single Player FF made by the team who made FFXIV (thus why it feels like FFXIV).

Game doesn't look like it is so exclusive anymore, which is a good thing.

Why are the graphics largely inferior to FF XV ? Honestly I am disappointed by their showing. Areas did not look so open either. Art direction felt a bit too westernized.

But this is not Halo, so people probably won't complain.

The character models haven't progressed much, but looks like a good cross gen. Square, you need to add ray-tracing in the eyes to get to that next level. Simple, but nobody is doing it. The reason why eyes always have a dead look to them in games is because in reality when a shadow passes in front of the iris, the eye is immediately drawn to look towards what is coming. The reflective and (oh god) wet nature of the eye can be fully realized with ray tracing and add a layer that has been missing, bringing the the characters to life in real time, not just cut scenes. It will be tits.

I'm gonna go all out and say the ending will probably be the main character gets recognized with high honors by the king, he raises his sword in glory, the phoenix appears... While the theme of FF plays in the background.

Weird because after watching this trailer, most of the stuff that I dreamt a few years back about for the next upcoming FF kinda happened. Here were my hopes and wishes:
  1. Medieval setting with castles
  2. Main characters surrounding a campfire planning a counterattack.
  3. Main character will use summons in some way, like each attack has a corresponding summon. I was hoping for a combination of Paladin + Summoner.
  4. You're using a knight who's protecting a prince, gets exiled for some reason.

It's early days, but it looks just fine in my case. I'd be happy if they rolled out with this with some extra polish.

I just want a great story, great dialogues and greats quests right now, the visuals are good enough. Combat will be good as well because they have great devs working on it.

I heard that the main battle director of DMC is on this and it shows. I think I'll be in this just for the combat alone honestly. It looks really good.

Nothing wow'd me at all. The trailers for 13 and 15 blew me away and ended up being average. I hope the outcome of this game is the inverse of those.

I don't like the art style, VA is awkward. Battle system can't judge. GoT style setting and themes. I guess we'll see in 4 years, but my excitement levels are low.

I've been reading comments since the announcement and now I'm fully convinced that Witcher 3 has to be the most normie RPG ever made, literally everyone is comparing it to the Witcher, which makes me feel really weird cause it literally looks like FFXIV-2 and nothing else really.

This whole "Dark Fantasy = Witcher" thing is pissing me off for some reason though.

Anyway it looked ok to me, it gave me a lot of FFXIV & FFTactics vibes, the protagonist reminded me a lot of Ramza and I'm all down for that time skip, I love time skips in any narrative. Also I don't know why but that scene where the kid gets splashed with blood reminded me a lot of Berserk, if they are getting inspiration from Berserk this will be good.

Developers showing pre rendered cutscenes not representative of actual gameplay: Oh fuck the devs its just CG, no gameplay, fuck off.

Developers listening to fans and showing early gameplay and cutscenes with missing features and polish: Omg it looks so bad, remember back in the day, that FF13 trailer was aaaaamaziiing.

People are so weird. I'm sure its gonna be cross gen though. Would be dumb of square not to do that.
It looks very much NES era FF. I really like the more colorful styles of FF7 or FF9 but maybe this will grow on me. For now its just that I am not used to the look.
Combat looks really good so far, especially knowing who is behind it. Interesting that its a one man army so far.

Really looking forward to see more of the game to learn more about the setting and its story.

First impressions are excellent. I hope its better than FFXV which was mediocre at launch.
