Horizon Forbidden West will launch on PS4 too

For this game in particular it is extremely disappointing that this is a cross gen game.
The first game had alot of limitations with the AI and the amount of enemies that could be shown on screen at once. Was looking forward to seeing what they could do with next gen hardware.

The only game at that price includes a remaster of another game. How many games (plural) are $79?
What? Look again please. Demons Souls, Destruction Allstars, Spiderman MM SE all cost 79.99 euros.
Also please google "79 euro to usd" to see why I'm upset

Not surprised at all that this is coming to PS4. Been hearing the game was almost done for a long time and 100m users is nothing to walk away from. Will be curious to see how SOny plays this. As in what differentiates the PS5/PS4(Pro) versions. Game looks beautiful when they showed it in June. So at least we know the PS5 version is G2G. PS4(Pro) we will have to wait and see.

I see what you mean. I wouldn't go that far. I'm just saying he's technically being proven right about HZD on PC looking better than HZD 2 on PlayStation- but that's leaving next-gen aside- which we still don't know much about.

I don't see where he has been proven right.

Lol what about the: "HzD iS oN Pc tO MaKe pC gAmErS GEt a Ps5" argument when you can also play it on a cheap PS4? All I know is that Horizon 2 will be pretty easy to 4K 60 once released on PC considering its' a PS4 game.

No one will care if Halo is also on the Xbox One if the next gen version looks great, so why would it be any different here? If the PS5 version looks great, who gives a shit if they put another team on making a compatible PS4 sku?

Fanboys were concern trolling Xbox cross gen strategy months before Halo was even shown.

you seem to think we have some shared guilt between us or something, the only way your arguments work is if you're arguing with an entire group of people who have leadership and decide things together instead of individual posters, it's not a healthy way to argue this. If Halo Infinite looked as good as Horizon Forbidden West most of us wouldn't have cared it was cross-gen, in fact, we'd have praised it for looking so good despite that.

But what does that matter? That's a different topic.
How is it a different topic?. You're making it sound like Microsoft only started getting a backlash over its strategy once Halo was shown, which is simply not true.
Fact is fanboys were console warring for months, because they believed a certain thing (no cross gen on PS5), and now Sony just dropped the bombshell and people are starting to weasel out of that viewpoint now.

I never believed that this was issue with the hardware. Battlefield games have flying and first person combat, so obviously
Horizon could have that too.

Do the Battlefield games have massive open worlds that can be freely explored and stream in as you move through them? If not, it's not even slightly comparable.

The PS4 could not do a game like Horizon with fast flight, the HDD just couldn't handle it.

I'm fine with games being cross gen. I think a game being "held back" is relative to what you're trying to achieve. A PS3 game running at its highest resolution and framerate would max out the PS4. A game like God of War maxes out the PS4. Both games are set out to achieve different things. Like I always say too we have The Witcher running on Switch.

In Horizons case the developers said they wanted flying mounts in Horizon, but it was impossible to create them well on PS4. With that being said, unless they have found a magical fix, their vision for these mounts can't be brought to life despite having a new CPU and fancy SSD unless the 2 versions aren't going to have parity.

Interesting to see how this pans out.

Put it this way, when the PS4 announced there was no nonsense. You got Killzone: ShadowFall as the opening, no cross-gen shenanigans and anybody with 2 working sets of eyeballs can tell this was NOT a PS3 game or will it ever hope to have one running in that scale.

Were there cross-gen games, sure, but they all fell wayside to games like Uncharted 4 and any other PS4 exclusives moving forward. None of the discussion was talking about leaving the potential 80 mil PS3 users because that's what they are paying for.

As someone who isn't blown away by the next gen titles and systems, I am happy that some bigger games will be on the XB1 and PS4. Otherwise I'd not be gettting these games. My major hope is that FFVIIR continues to be on PS4.

The price of the new systems isn't an issue, the value just isn't there for me and I don't have room for another 2 boxes under my projection screen.

This one came as a surprise.

But looking back at Horizon Zero Dawn, Guerilla did a great job of streaming in the open world seamlessly with no loading screens because they were only rendering what was in your viewport.

The only time it felt sluggish was fast traveling.

So I imagine with the PS5, those same techniques will continue to be used, but now fast travel will actually be fast.
And of course with better graphics from an already great looking game, in the end, I feel confident this will look and feel very much like the next gen experience I was looking for.

Is it not possible to be disappointed in the strategy whichever company does it? I don't like the idea when it comes to the big 1st party games especially when there is supposedly such a huge gap between the current and the next gen. How they are they going to achieve these significant gameplay advancements they've been hyping when there tied to the last gen?

You mean like 99% of what MS showed at their showcase? I have confidence in GG to make H2FW look fantastic and close to what was shown. I don't see the PS4 holding this particular game back.
Well the PS4 is holding it back from being a true next gen game, not even debatable.

This is literally the industry standard frustrum culling lol.

The great thing about the series X, and why I’ll be buying one without even contemplating buying any series x games, is that it’s a complete replacement for the One X. It literally does everything it does and more. Just unplug the One and put the Series X there and use the same controllers and same peripherals and same 3 generations of games. PS5 not so much.

at the end of the day, it is a smart business decision and ps4 owners (which is the majority) will welcome this news.
ps5 owners might feel a little misled, i just wish they were more honest about this since the beginning.

We haven't even seen gameplay, lol.

Guerrilla Games is competent in their tech, and will not show trash, neither on PS4, nor on PS5 like 343i did. So I expect a lot of diehard fans to say: "See, nothing downgraded - looks next-gen on PS5" ...after they see eye candy on the game's next showing. Your typical disingenuous damage control talking point. But we're not naive nor stupid. It's extremely, extremely unlikely Guerrila is making two different versions from the ground-up of the same game. What is common practice is to develop around the lowest denominator (PS4 - with its crappy CPU, slow HDD and low RAM bandwidth), and then have free reign in the "upscaling" process. Maybe Guerrila goes overboard (to make sure they receive less flack) by going beyond the usual extra options found on PC but fundamentally this doesn't change the underlying issue..... in other words, it's a PS4 game at heart.

There have been obvious rumors that the development for this game started on current-gen and got hijacked to be PS5 ready. If so, Sony should have been open about this since the reveal of the game in a blog post that very day. But like a shady salesman they dropped the news the day of the pre-orders after running their mouths about believing in generational shifts. Sony themselves set the expectations (the right ones imo) but lacked transparency in what was PS5 only and what was cross-gen, PS4/PS5. The obvious conclusion being that there are few titles, even Sony exclusives, which are PS5 only (Demon Souls etc)..... thus they fear having little backup to their differentiating (from MS) marketing pitch (or simply preferred to bait & switch aka lie and BS). Not to mention they had the choice to back their marketing by making the tough decision ($$$$) to leave the PS4 behind completely (like with Demon Souls) but they consciously chose not to (with Miles Morales and Horizon II).

Moral of the story is that transparency is King. Fuck Jim Ryan and Hermen Hulst.

Destiny was cross-gen and was one of the best looking games in the first year of both last-gen consoles.

Still not as detailed (looks good though, don't get me wrong). Which makes sense since it's a PS360 game. And those consoles had HDDs as "fast" as the one in the PS4, while having smaller textures etc to stream in.
I’m sorry are you saying GTA5s world isn’t as detailed as Horizons? Are you seriously saying that? Lol

Yup.

If a 1.3tf Xbox One OG is holding back Series X, then a 1.8t PS4 OG is doing the same to PS5.

I'd argue the PS4 OG is holding it back more because PS5's super speed SSD is supposed to do wonders which no HDD can touch regardless of other gimped specs which is more of a scaling down of res or textures.

Eh, but HZD isn't all that detailed either, lots of wilderness with repeated assets similar to just cause, exception being the settlements (which don't win against GTAV in terms of detail either)

Also, just remember there was the flying regalia in FFXV too as an example

We're judging a generation based on the the release window ... AGAIN? For fucks sake, doesn't anyone ever remember other generations?

Crazy that Sony wasn’t really up front about HZD or Spider-Man, it kinda just came afterwards. I’m not sure who is in charge of the PR, but it’s starting to really suck imo.

Sad news tbh

Hard to see how it's taking advantage for ps5 when it has to be scaled back

Unless it's a massive difference other than just resolution

But still......

What is the fuss? They just degrade stuff till it runs on PS4. This whole "generation" stuff doesn't apply anymore, consoles are just PCs smaller boxes now.

Sony fans were saying that last gens versions existing meant that games must be held back, no matter what. And so MS was ruining next gen. If you were on the boards at all this should be easy to remeber.

This is all purely fanboy stuff, and you engaged with it. It's meaningless.
