The teardown video is not self explanatory.
The teardown video does not teach me about liquid metal and it's benefits or downsides vs. what is regularly used. DF can use their technical knowledge to tell me about that.
The teardown video does not tell me how much bigger the fan is vs. previous PlayStation consoles and how this will chance airflow and what it will do or allow in terms of acoustics. DF can use their technical knowledge to tell me about that.
The teardown video shows me how I can add additional storage, but not what physical size would fit. DF can use their technical knowledge to make better educated guesses on that than I can.
The list goes on and on.
They can take this footage and compare with their own footage of their own teardown of the XSX and compare the approaches of both consoles and talk about that. Literally 90% of their output is about comparisons. It is right up their street.
The idea they would have nothing to add or that the teardown gives you all the info you need is a nonsense.

DF disagrees. If they had been flown to Sony HQ and had a hands on with the PS5 you best believe they would have made a video. They didn't so there wasn't. Maybe when the PS5 actually comes out they'll do one. MS chose a different route so they made a video about it.
No. I prefer content creators to actually know what they are talking about when they make a video. Hands on is infinitely more useful than speculation.

playing a bit of devils advocate here but DF does some really odd jobs from time to time like when they did a teardown of the overwatch for switch announcement trailer which barely showed any gameplay that wasn’t from portable mode.
not that I think they’re biased or paid shills or anything. They absolutely gushed during the ps5 gameplay reveal streams

But if DF did make that video NeoGAF would just shit on the video and/or on DF as whole...........so instead of spending time on it, they skipped the process of actually making it and just let you shit on the video anyway and end up with the same thread we were going to get either which way.

I both hope they get one for their own teardown, but also think it's petty to not cover a big event because you haven't, the teardown clearly got a lot of attention, and no one outside of Japan has gotten a hands on yet, so it's not like they're being singled out.

I think a teardown by DF is kinda pointless, we had a Sony engineer explain everything in detail about it whilst removing part by part, the only thing DF would bring to the table is their thoughts on it really.

The comparisons would be invalid. You would be comparing hardware you have in-house to hardware in a video. This would inevitably open them up to valid criticism. They are not usually in the business of comparing apples to oranges.
I applaud them for not doing this actually. It speaks to their credibility. Imagine the ad revenue they would get from the views. The analysis will come when they get a unit and then everyone can stop being so concerned.

DF learned about the XSS when they went to MS HQ. They just didn't make the video until much later. They have also made several videos on graphics tech they have not ran in house see the Spiderman and Demons Souls videos. I don't see any sort of contraindications here.

I personaly couldn't care less of DF videos on PS5 teardown or anything else. I stopped watching their content long time ago. The issue that i have hard time dealing with is the condecending/arrogant attitudes of guys like Alex. Just look at his post, his dismissive behaviour is at stratospheric levels.

they released new information every day this week. Audio, BC, internals. And, they are the only ones to show their launch games. There was a tech analysis of ray tracing on MM too. The zenimax acquisition wasn’t standard gaming information. It’s a press release.Theyhave to announce that to their investors.
I don't think you understand. Not comparisons of hard numbers. Comparisons in design and philosophy and what the differences those yield are. You don't need to physically have something to understand how it works in principal.
They make videos based on things they don't physically have all the time. I mean they even made videos trying to see if they could guess how these consoles would all perform based on PC hardware. That's about as apples and oranges as you can get.
Besides - that's just one small element of the possibilities of what they can talk about, as I listed in my post.
Lastly I don't think they've said they won't make a video, merely that Richard was already deep into making the other video. And I don't think many would be upset if they never made a video, it is more the manor in which Alex dismissed the notion of a video - it being uninteresting and self-explanatory when, again for the reasons listed, it isn't.

to each its own I prefer they talk about thing they can test and they can wait to compare all that directly when they will have both hardware something they can already be doing if Sony did thing differently.

Oh, no doubt about that. Having a single platform helps greatly in that.
MS will always lose in console sales simply because it has more platforms where its products are available.
I do wonder though how much revenue and how many GP subscribers will they have by the end of the gen.

Entire playing field changed, everyone’s making up PS3 level justifications for why the PRO isn’t doing 4K, thelastword on suicide watch nearly every day, digital foundry paid by Microsoft even though Sony has historically never really been that friendly with gaming press going as far to not even guarantee them review units and making them come to play exclusive’s in review areas. They now blame the websites that have to work with what they have vs the company that is one step away from being the Apple of the gaming industry in terms of insulting themselves.
I say this as someone that’s willing to pay a scalper for a launch unit like an idiot. The power argument is lost and we’re about to spend another 7 years hearing morons do backflips in terms of basic logic to make themselves feel better about 14 inches of hard plastic and silicon.
Face it, Microsoft is bringing the heat this generation, they have a more powerful console, they have a business model that while I don’t agree with is going to tempt a lot of consumers and Sony is gonna fight for relevance this generation.
Now hopefully I can get a preorder bundle for a PS5 during all these upcoming sales next week.

Some big Sonygaf heads have been sent rolling these past couple of weeks, hopefully the message will begin to get through. It would be nice if future DF threads weren't filled with their crazed conspiracy theories. I have 3 Sony consoles at home, but their obnoxiousness almost makes me start to actively dislike the whole Playstation platform. Ironic, given what they are trying to achieve with their constant warring.

The teardown Revealed information about the stand, cooling system(fan,heat sink, liquid metal) after ps4s had noise issues, SSD location and expansion and customization possibilities.l with the panels. There’s no way the 7million YouTube views were just Sony fans. Even here in the ps5 teardown thread the posts there were plenty of comments by non-Sony gamers. It’s far from uninteresting if you’re an enthusiast or if you cater to enthusiasts.
