So @Bo_Hazem was right about Demons Souls resolution and DF were wrong

Why was that thread locked exactly?

No reason to think there are many PS5 exclusive games until 2023. Demon's Souls being listed as PC and other consoles originally made that clear. Far too many consoles out there, just losing money if you don't offer them 1st party.

It's going to be a long process, until they have a good portion of that 113 million user base on ps5, it's to much money too lose or not take advantage of.

Horizon being cross-gen stings.

If its the 5th iteration... it needs to be PS5 only... like GoW5... and Uncharted 5

well said. but to me, if someone is truly curious, the more interesting part is how PS5 manage to run games like DS, R&C and even spiderman on a supposedly weaker machine. the reconstruction technique. the RT tricks are all interesting talking points. but no, people fixated on RDNA1.5

Well for that exercise don't look at PS5 as a weaker machine compared to something else and wonder how it's able to be doing what it is. Instead just ignore for a second what Xbox is doing and look at PS5 alone in a vacuum.

I'm pulling these numbers from memory so forgive me if I'm off but over the base PS4 we're looking at a machine with something like 5-6x the CPU performance, 6-8x GPU, two orders of magnitude improvement in I/O, hardware based RT, an improved geometry engine and I'm sure improved checker boarding and temporal injection upscaling techniques over the previous generation.

When you look at what was accomplished on the now relatively anemic current-gen hardware, this is a massive increase in not only raw performance but new feature sets and improved techniques as well.

So the fact that DS, R&C and Spider-man look as good as they do does not surprise me at all. In fact we all should know that this is just the beginning, the tip of the iceberg as it were. I expect the next round of games to truly blow our minds as they will on Xbox as well.

it doesn't mean every game will be crossgen. but we shall all accept there will be quite a number of crossgens.
I thought this was how it was for PS4 and PS3 etc. I like that if you buy a console it won’t be abandoned quickly towards the end of its cycle. I thought that was one of the great traits about Sony. You just have to deal with the compromise of games on new console for a while.

I actually was surprised about the heat Xbox was getting for this because I always thought they abandoned their consoles the last year or so of a console cycle.

i was genuinely surprised because i know i haven't seen my 2070 super ever produced those quality graphics at that framerate when i turn on RT even with DLSS on. yet. ps5 is 2060 level according to Alex from DF.

the point i want to make is that i found the majority of the technical discussions here all have agenda behind. true from both sides. but gaf is not known for deep technical discussion anyway. :messenger_halo:

Sony have always supported their consoles for 10 years, there is always an overlap. It doesn't mean that their won't be games made exclusively for the PS5.

That's actually a really interesting and in depth interview with Jim Ryan (not the IGN one you linked, the original GamesIndustry article they cited).

The bit about supporting PS4: ""Obviously, our eyes and our horizons have lifted with regards to what's possible with that PS4 community, based on what we've observed over the last six months," Ryan says, referring to an increase in players as a result of COVID-19 lockdowns. "That can be quite powerful, because in 2021, 2022... that PS4 community that we've spoken about, they will be the vast majority of people on PlayStations during that time. It is crucial that we keep them engaged and happy. And the last six months have demonstrated that we could do that to an extent that we didn't think possible when we were setting our minds pre-COVID.""

It absolutely makes sense to continue to support current gen for at least the next couple years. PS5 users may still only be ~1/4 of the total number of PS4s by that time. Now I don't take this statement to mean all or even most new first party titles through 2022 would also be coming to PS4. If something was meant to come out in the next year or two and was targeting PS5 then it's way too late for them to pivot support to PS4. We already know about HFW, so I would imagine another one or two big first party games in addition to all the 3rd party support would qualify as keeping them engaged and happy. I do imagine there will still be many first party PS5 exclusives in that time frame only because of Jim's next quote:

"Now we are starting with 100 million gamers, who we hope to transition very, very rapidly onto PS5. And it's an engaged, tribal, networked community, who will be deeply and profoundly engaged with their PlayStation 5, we hope, from a very early moment."

The transition very, very rapidly onto PS5 isn't something you just hope happens. That's accomplished by an attractive value proposition and for Sony it's their first party exclusives which is why I still think there will be quite a few only on PS5 in the first few years.

Can the new director...tell us wtf this game is first

They didn't even know what they wanted Everwild to be or what it's direction was yet....And I guess they lost that Halo Infinite's Director too....It's been a minute since we've heard from The Initiative and it's recruiting campaign and how that project is going....Everytime anyone joined that studio there was a hype thread surrounding it.......Yet if people are leaving on key projects, it seems there is more tears behind all the smiles and hype sessions...

Demon Souls was definitely not 1440p, compared to other games which they deemed at 4k that was a soupy blurry mess. I guess soon many of these games will be under the lens with proper pixel counts done by Vgtech....

nah, if XBOX abandons their prev gen, what games will they have at launch? you may argue they may be able to produce a nextgen game faster. but there bigger problems in the studio management than crossgen itself.

Sorry, I know the original video has been posted and all the information is available in text format, but in case you are too lazy to read, this video includes audio (in English even though the text is Japanese) by the creative director:

I'll delete this post if I find its already been posted. I'm 12 pages behind everyone 🤣
