wait... didn't they say it uses raytracing before? or was that some undisclosed speculation by some outlet which was then spread as fact? I could swear it was seen as having RT GI/AO

From Japan Studio and Bluepoint Games comes a remake of the PlayStation classic, Demon’s Souls. In addition to beautiful shadow effects and ray tracing, players can choose between two graphics modes while playing: one focused on fidelity, and one focused on frame rate.

I honestly don't know what's going on.

so it was an official statement and not someone misquoting... well that's a bit shitty of them to lie that way but in terms of the game's presentation it won't change much I bet. it would have been Gi and AO maybe shadow casting at most anyways and we have good enough rasterized options for that. especially since the game has no dynamic day/night cycle, you can bake in a lot of the lighting thanks to that alone.

Can't work out if that's enough time to ask someone to "hold my beer", and actually pass it to them.

Great stuff, and good to see Cerny vindicated.

I wonder if old issues between Sony and Nintendo will stop Nintendo from paying for an IO complex in their next console. Something tells me they'll be putting this at the top of their list of features and cleaning the slate.

What do issues between Sony and Nintendo have to do with them integrated fast I/O?

"There are two modes, one which is called the cinematic mode and that's native 4K at 30 FPS, and that allows us to really go to town, I mean really go to town visually, it means we can up the resolution of every single tiny pebble in the game and tessellation is incredible and it's all real time lit and it's all real time shadows and it's so immersive."

To sum up the interview they did have Raytracing at some point but they axed it in favor of other visual effects. Sounds like it's just part of the development process but I do agree that they announced it too early.

I still believe the cinematic/30 FPS mode will incorporate ray tracing, it's consistent with what Sony themselves have said as well as comments from the developers. That's unless we get some reliable or official confirmation that it's not.

is there more reliable info than the info a developer gives? what?
I bet they are pushing other stuff in favor of the RT effects they took out. and the cinematic mode will simply lock the resolution to 4K while the framerate mode will not.

oops, it’s gonna be bloodbath?

the game still looks phenomenal. I thought they said they will have RT shadows, which is less taxing. I guess it’s still too much.

They are pushing other visual effects at the Visuals mode. It simply isn't just the 60FPS mode at 4K and 30FPS.

Are you sure it's not a click bait FUD?

I mean they have been mentioning RT for a long time, we have shadows and dynamic lighting in the video. And the 30 fps mode wouldn't make sense.

And actually levelup is not a famous gaming magazine, in fact it is quite unknown, Sony would not have arranged an interview with such a small medium that on the other hand they have released the news at 00:00. There are 5 famous magazines in Spain and it is none of those.

I would wait to see if an official statement is made on the matter because this seems to me like another click bait attack, the interview has not been fully transcribed. maybe he said that in 60 fps mode we won't be able to find RT.

I'm skeptical of the reports, just very very recently they said they will incorporate dynamic lighting and shadows into the cinematic mode, although that doesn't equate to ray tracing but then that makes me curious how they achieved it? I guess it's true that with the larger frame time budget they chose to push other stuff like tessellation, higher resolution textures and enhanced particle effects. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

well dynamic lights and shadows are in basically every modern AAA game.

raytracing is absolutely not necessary for that, raytracing just makes them look more realistic.

I think I have not seen a AAA game with more realistic lighting. Except maybe the unreal engine 5 demo.

- Demon's Souls looks like shit because it has no RT!
- Wasn't this game the one everyone was saying it looked amazing?
- It looks like shit, look at this shit!
- But people are saying what was shown so far was performance mode! It will look even better in cine...

You had to remind me, I'm just going to pretend that last season didn't happen. :/

I know...I keep hoping GRRM will finish the series the way he says he's doing and give it the REAL ending...but yeah....that dude is never finishing the series. I'll be surprised if he ever releases another book in the series even. I think he lost the threads of the story and his mojo and had no idea how to pull it all together for an ending. Just my opinion. He kept expanding the story and expanding the story....I think he went too far.

I hope so, I wouldn't even be questioning it if it wasn't for that damn *Digital Deluxe Exclusive thing :messenger_weary:

From what i understood those deluxe itens weren`t on the original souls game.... but what that means? Demon Souls noob here, doest it really matter which version to get?

Yup. He is too rich now, and afraid of ruining his series. He'll never put out Winds unless its good enough, but he's fucked. He clearly has no idea how to finish the story. Its been 10 years to write 1 book lol, clearly he has no fucking idea how to connect the (numerous) threads / storylines.

We have several interviews in Spain and this is not mentioned in any other medium. Interviews today or yesterday.

For me for now I think it could be a bit strange FUD.

Very strange the only medium that has told him and even more strange the time and the magazine where it has appeared.

Exactly. He expanded too much. This last book when he introduced that kid who now supposedly is a true heir...I was like WTF??? Oh he's lost it now! Yeah, he doesn't know how to end his story. Which is a shame because the abortion of the last few episodes of the TV series will mark the defining version of his saga. Too bad. But also...entirely his own fault.

Not really, most games are baked in shadows and fixed lighting.

And this one will too, it will not be either, But it will feature many Dynamic lights and shadows. As did games from the ps2 area.
This is just marketing speaks for "it looks nice" nothing new.

So I got most of my PS5 accessories in today including the Pulse 3D headset so I wanted to give a mini-review. Just initial impressions from using them for a few hours tonight:

First, I hadn't realized they weren't bluetooth but had a dedicated USB transmitter that you will plug into your PS5. I tested the headphones with my Mac which seamlessly recognized and started sending audio to the headset.

For the headsets themselves, the construction felt surprisingly sturdy to me, especially for also how light they feel. The headset feels like it's good quality...at least comparable to my other $300+ wireless headset that I have, but it sits very lightly on my head. Feels very comfortable and the ear cups are very nice and soft. I wore them for over an hour straight and didn't have any 'ear fatigue.' I am someone who is a bit sensitive to ear fatigue and has to take breaks from many headsets after a while as they start to pinch my head or ears. These didn't do that after over an hour of continuous wear. So a plus in my book.

Sound quality of the headsets seems really nice. I think they could use a bit more bass and maybe a bit more volume ability as well. I like my audio pretty damn loud. Again, this is comparing them to my $300 wireless headset which I think has absolutely PHENOMENAL bass and good volume. But the Pulse 3D definitely HAVE bass and their mid and high range sounds good and distinct even when the bass is pumping, so that's good too. Overall I'd say they sound a bit better than I had expected them to for their price point. They're quite good!

The one thing I can't test that I'm concerned about is the wireless range and quality. I had a turtle beach pair of wireless headphones for my PS4 that used a USB transmitter like this and even with my entertainment center and TV about 8 feet away, they used to lose connectivity regularly enough to be an annoyance and sometimes would develop a high pitched squeal and echo that could only be resolved by restarting the PS4. It was enough of a pain in the ass that I trashed them and they cost me about $200. Just weren't worth it. So I'm very hopeful that these headsets don't have the same issues on the PS5. If it does...I'll trash them too and I will be telling EVERYONE including SONY all about it! :)

So overall, I think these headsets are a pleasant surprise for their price point. Very good sound by any measure although serious audiophiles will have gripes. Good bass levels with clear mid and high range although I DO wish they put out just a touch more volume...it's certainly adequate and will fill your head with sound. Ergonomics are very nice and comfortable with a lightness that should help gamers putting in multiple hour gaming sessions. The headsets feel like a quality built item so I think they will hold up to extended use pretty well.

I recommend these headsets to anyone looking for a good wireless option for their PS5. And you can still use them on your computer if you want to.

Am i the only one who doesn't care about ray tracing and native 4k and all that crap, just give me a good game that plays well and i'll be happy.

I care to a point...like where it can make the games better...if it does. But yeah...for the most part. GOOD game that plays smoothly and yeah...with next gen hardware we're gonna get a LOT of visual upgrades. If this game or that game has or doesn't have a specific feature here and there...IDGAF.

Could you please compare the build quality to the Gold PS4 ones? I heard that they tend to break overtime.
Is there like anything metal on the structure or is ti just plastic?
I'm on the fence on the Pulse 3d, but thanks for the detailed review!

I don't think so and i believe there is more to every new character in book five than it meets the eyes. Even the kid.
I in no way support the delay of WoW. Hell it took GRRM less time to create the first three books than the last two.
Also Congratulations.

It's beyond possible and there are countless games using fixed and baked lighting, but i don't wanna argue anymore, So, whatever you say.

While I'm not spanish, my spanish chops are ok. Happy to translate what the interviews say, with proper context. First, the one that says Demon Souls has no Ray Tracing

Original

Translation

While questioning Gaving about the implementation of Ray Tracing in Demon Souls, the creative (director) made it clear that, while he had announced otherwise (refering to interview on the 1st of October), this is an element that is absent from the Playstation 5 exclusive.

"In fact we did not implement ray tracing in Demon's Souls. It's not that we couldn't because the Playstation 5 can't do it, as it is capable of doing so" mencioned Moore.

This does lead to believe that there is no Ray Tracing on the game, contradicting previous statements and Sony themselves. Now, the interesting bit as that another "interview" from the day before completely contradicts this.

Original

Translation

Demon’s Souls for PlayStation 3 is an incredibly dark game. What we have done is, after evaluating the power of the PlayStation 5, we realized that we no longer had to enable or disable any light source, but we have been able to include light in real time thanks to ray tracing. So every aspect of the game lighting is in real time. It is dynamic. We have used the lighting as a way to guide the player through the levels, as little hints of where to go.

This one shows that there is Ray Traced global illumination, from my understanding of what he said.

I'm on the fence on the Pulse 3d, but thanks for the detailed review!

I did have a pair of the Sony Gold headsets for a while. The Gold are heavier and I think the Pulse 3D sounds better and clearer. My Gold's had the headphone jack part come loose after about a year and a half. But I know people who have had a pair of Golds for 3 years and they're just fine. I think as with anything, it depends on how you take care of them and treat them. Plus...any mass produced product you're going to find a lemon here and there.

I think the Pulse 3D are a good replacement for the Gold. I liked my Gold, but again I think these sound better and the lightness of the Pulse 3D and the comfort level are higher than the Gold headset as well, in my opinion.

Hope that helps!
