ACG's review PS5 crapped out already

My launch PS4 is Made in Japan and still running strong, pretty sure those never break. And I think Europeans get Japanese while Americans Chinese version. Hopefully it will be same next gen.

I wondering if the Blu-Tooth controller and HDMI are on the same part of the board. I'll have to re-watch the breakdown, seems like it was just a bad board component or somehow had water damage.

The controller is using wireless connection that's not BT on XSS, same on previous ones. Only BT on PC though.

If the console breaks, you have warranty. I don't get people saying that, that is the reason they are not getting one at launch. You wait for a revision while I play and if it breaks, warranty.

That really sucks. Hopefully its addressed quickly and doesn't turn out to be a huge issue.

Waiting till next year was definitely a good choice.

I had an original 360 and PS3 that worked perfectly until I gave them away after many years of service so my luck has probably run dry by now and I’m due a broken launch day machine.

Everything has failing units, you'll just hear the bad more than the good.

It's like when someone has a bad experience with food/hospitality, you're more inclined to go out of your way and complain about a bad experience than talk up one that is good.

Fingers crossed everyone only has positive experiences with their console of choice!

i dunno what to make of the OP, but I will repeat that i don't plan on buying a ps5 until next year, when kinks have been ironed out and the next round of games have been released

In production, early units are the worst. Production lines are improved over there years
Not the normal production units, but the units that will be displayed for millions of people, from these influencers YouTube channels. I could be wrong, but in the audio world, the best units get sent to the reviewers and early birds, and regular production runs go to the normies.

I've had 2 PS3 dying on me before, a launch model one and also a brand new one just shy of a month of purchase, both due to solder issues. Thankfully got the latter got replaced via Sony warranty, but stories like this always worries me. My launch day PS4 thankfully has survived to this day though. I guess it all comes down to luck, hopefully it isn't a design issue.

This video was LOADED with stuff that he just causally brought up and dropped off without really giving it proper space.
Agreed. It's not very clear at all. I watched the section where he talked about what happened to the PS5 and he only mentioned an... external storage issue? And what the fuck that has to do with a Router is beyond me, there should be absolutely zero relationship with external storage and the brand of your telecommunications device, they're unrelated.

Anyway, did the PS5 stop turning on? Did it simply explode? Or was the issue with the attached storage too much to overcome? Many questions here.

This has always been the case regarding launch units. There's always a slight chance you might end up with a faulty unit, and warranty exists for that reason.

So long as it's not indicative of a larger trend of hardware failures, I wouldn't sweat it.

Given the size of the console and how much effort went into the cooling system, I doubt it's heat related. Something like this wouldn't worry me, unless it ends up being widespread like the RROD or Joycon drift.

My original xbox and xbox 360 died within days of getting them. My Sega CD didn't work at all when I first got it due to a ribbon cable to the cd drive coming loose. Shit happens with new consoles sometimes. If any console makes it through a month or two of heavy playing, then it's probably going to be ok for the rest of the generation (xbox 360 being the exception to that as far as the last few generations go).

Also guys can anyone explain to me what does he say on the 4th minute of the video: about other youtubers telling him not to report bugs and sth about refunds. Refunds on what ?

My XSX shuts itself off during Forza Horizon 4. It's happened 4 times in free roam. It's barely even warm when it happens. Glad I got the GameStop warranty. Hopefully it's something that can be patched. I read that it's been happening to people in random games.

This is coming from a forum that made a 1000 threads and memes about Xbox overheating because a guy grabbed his memory card and said it was toasty.

Sweating it is what people do best around here. 😉

I'm already two generations deep with launch units dying (360 and PS4). Please not again.

I suspect all these units are going to have a significant failure rate - simply because in reality you are getting a lot of hardware for the money. If you look at the raw BOM cost for these machines, it's getting very close to the sales price, which leaves very little space for design margin or overengineering for reliability. I don't think they will be terrible - nobody wants another PR disaster like the original Xenon Xbox 360 - but I suspect that the early units will have elevated failure rates over the industry norms until the weaknesses are identified.

Nobody should be reveling in anybody's new toy dying on day one or two, you all can't be that misanthropic to really wish or laugh at someone in the predicament of not being able to enjoy their $500+ purchase. If you genuinely feel the other party in the CONSOLE WAR's machine suffering more than your sides than that's very petty.

I hope both machines have great launches, it really sucks that launch consoles are sometimes hit and miss, these things are complicated machines with a ton of stuff happening inside of them.

Don't worry, you'll probably get your Crowbcat video that makes it seem like every console launch was a complete disaster when in reality almost everyone is enjoying their new device, unless the guy died or something. No need to create a thread over each one.

My launch PS3 died, replacement PS3 died twice consecutive. The third unit died of YLOD 5 years later :(. My launch PS4 had zero issues, my launch PS4 Pro had zero issues.

Another one

This reminds me of the first 6 months of PS4. Anyone else remember that the system didn't even go to suspend properly? Infinite blinking yellow light, having to pull the plug. Or the system just didn't resume from standby?

The system bugs were super plentiful when the system launched. Sony's system software side has always been horrible.
