PS5 stick drift is apparently already happening.

Right now, it's too early to say if this will be a huge problem like it has been for the PS4, Switch, and other platforms. It's quite possible the user above dropped their controller or that it has a defect. However, they aren't the only one reporting the problem, which undermines the pair of aforementioned possibilities

Hopefully this isn’t prevalent.

No problem with either one. Plus you get this thing called a warranty...
I hear that Sony is so awesome that the moment you have a problem with your controller they send one out immediately by drone so that you don't have to go through the hassle that is Sony support and then wait 7 to 10 days to get your warranty replacement. It's almost a better experience for it to break because you get to experience state of the art drone delivery. Completely solves the frustration of having a $70 controller break because they didn't put additional thought into the design of the sticks.

Your obviously xbox fan because you have way to much time on your hands

I had this with my first DS4. Thought it was bug since it only appeared with Destiny but I guess it wasn’t.

So like every other modern analog controller. I think the only controller I never hear an issue with is the Nintendo pro. Ps4, scuffs, Microsoft elite and standards. I am betting the new series x controller has it to. Non issue really warranty it back. But this is bad thing about no BC with controller gotta pay out of pocket for back up controller.

ye was posted above but was gonna say I think spawnwave took it apart and said the mechnisms are the exact same from ps4 controller.
Apparently the triggers are just small plastics holding up together and now that he saw how it works, it appears to be a little bit fragile considering people are gonna push the triggers hard to combat the force feedback?

Also yes, they use the exact same DS4 analog sticks. This can be confirmed by multiple teardowns from YTubers.

no. XB1 controllers drift too. i'm on my 3rd one which is also drifting.

never had a joycon drift. my DS4 never drifted either.

it can happen to any analog stick.

Exactly this is not something to console war over ffs people. Even expensive 3rd party scuffs can do it also. I just wish this constant war crap could tone down so we could have game discussions again.

It will happen to every controller on every system until the way they are made is seriously improved. The duds (within warranty at least) are probably such a low percentage though that no manufacturer is in any great rush to improve quality.

These are all cheap, mass produced bits of plastic at the end of the day and there will always be issues.

I would love a Xbox Elite controller for instance but just know I'd get unlucky and get one with problems so I stick to the poor man's controllers so replacing them is no big deal if there is a problem.

the big 3 should spend more money on better stick components.

Unless one decides to manufacture the internal components of the analog stick nothing will change. The 200 dollars scuffs stick drift. So it be design and manufacturing a high quality part.

Would of been a better video if they actually shown the sticks while it was doing that, that can easily be faked.
Not saying it can’t happen but seeing videos like this makes me wonder if it’s legit or not.

I think I've started noticing this in my right stick. I've been playing the hell out of Demon's Souls, and there have been moments where my camera (right stick) randomly turns for no reason. Only happened a few times, but it's wtf for sure.

I'm deadset in believing ps5 controllers are designed to fail faster than any other console.
The deadzone is needlessly small as fuck.
No reason to be that tiny other than to have the slightest wear and tear cause drifting.
I have an n64 controller from the 1900's that is STILL working fine. No dridting at all!

I have a cheapo 3rd party xbox one controller that has out lasted 3 ps4 dualshocks that now have stick drift.

I'll end up saving $1,000+ going with xbox this gen.

Until Sony and others offer deadzone options at a system level my mind will not change.
