I think in 10 years time we’ll sadly be able to clearly pinpoint where it all went downhill for Naughty Dog, and it’s going to be as clear as; before the age of Cuckmann and the age of Cuckmann.

Look, a lot of people hide their true faces under beards. Granted this guy would need a pretty big beard but once they add some greys and shit...from a distance...add snow....

Nope.

Because TLOU has representation without socio-political commentary. If you are recasting based on race than its likely they are going to integrate that as a theme. Especially if the majority of the cast will now be black

5 of the 11 named main/secondary characters in the first game and expansion are already black. Now Joel, Tommy and Sarah will be black too. So 8 of the 11 will be black
Why are you assuming they’re recasting based in race and not talent? Do we know the the rest of the actors casted?

If you’re going to build on an existing ip, it’s to leverage the built in fan base. Fans have expectations from the setting and characters. If you’re going to deliberately squander that, why bother. Do something new.

" The Last Of The Shows I'll watch "

Fuck them

Always hated racism and racist people, but I'll be honest, all this sjw shit is slowly making me racist over time

It's really not the end of the world. He's a great actor.

I get it, I get it, they are changing a beloved character, but I mean, give it a chance. And please don't "turn racist" over a TV show casting.

I can guarantee none of the black characters are being turned white. And if Joel is now a black character, then his immediate family will be too

Frankly it changes the context of a lot of scenes. The implications of Joel and his daughter being shot by the police in the first part of the game are totally changed by him being black. The entire frame of what shaped Joels character is fundamentally recontextualised

Race doesn't live in a bubble. If you change the race of the character then you are changing the character. A black Joel and white Joel haven't lived the same circumstances

Wait guys, not racist in the true sense of the word, but every time I see a race swap over a famous and established character, i'm progressively more disappointed over time

Resume: I go over how good an actor is, and I think " they actually choose him / her to please sjw viewers"

So you think blacks and whites are the same? Are you stupid? They have very different cultures. If that's the case then put a Chinese instead.
I'm somewhat uncomfortable with the direction you seem to be going in here.

Cool, we can get a new, fresh story from Joel then, not a rehash from the game. New things can be good things.

I was hoping for Maisie to get the role.
She's 23. How old is Ellie in the show? Same age as the first game?

Geralt is a fictional character in a fantasy version of Eastern Europe, where people of color were rare. Joel is a dude from modern day Texas. He could easily be Black, White, Latino, Asian, whatever.

American media still called CDPR racist for not including black characters in the game so... They don't give a fuck. Thank God I live in a country where they don't hate white people. At least for now.

The braying around The Witcher supposedly lacking people of color was fortunately a faux-outrage whipped up by a handful of gaming journalists. That shit was beyond contempt.

And what?
I don’t know how much simpler I can make my words. Should I try use emotes?

How do we even know that scene is even in the show? Isn’t this an adaptation if the source material?

Ethnicity doesn't define culture, and the initial point is wrong... being gay and being white are not the same thing when it comes to this series, they don't function with the same weight within the story. At all. Should be pretty obvious. So making Joel a different ethnicity and changing Ellie's sexuality aren't the same thing.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
I'm not saying anything about it only addressing that users post saying "why does this only happen one way???" when its historically the opposite.
I think you're confusing adaptations with race washing

When Tom Cruise appeared in Edge of Tomorrow, that was an American adaptation of a Japanese novel to appeal to west.
90% of the world doesn't even know there is a novel or that the main character is completely different race & name.
Funny enough they do the same with their adaptations too, except people don't bitch about them..

This is an adaptation,

new characters, new story, same premise

This is race washing

same story, same characters but different race, same premise

There's a BIG difference.

Could be, but instead the developed character is a burley white dude. It’s a matter of expectations by fans now. If he started out as lightning fast Chinese guy proficient in martial arts, that would be the expectation.

It’s not about race, it’s about established characters and fan expectations. Nothing more to it.

They could make a series in the universe without Joel, then introduce whatever protagonist they please. But again, the success of the production likely hinges on delivering to the established fan base and their pre conceived view. Otherwise, who is it for?

Why? Seriously, how can someone say blacks and white are equal when they obviously aren't. We all have different cultures, blacks, whites, latinos, asians, indians, we are all different. Is one thing for all of us to have the same human rights but it's a completely different thing to say we are all the same. No we aren't, we are very different, that's what makes us special. A black guy shouldn't be portraying a white character just like a white guy shouldn't be portraying a black character. You can do it if you want for sure, but if you do it then it's no longer the same character.

So Avatar The Last Airbender cartoon featuring plenty of non white characters being race washed to feature only white and indian people in the movie? Not sure I am following here...
