Oh... Oh well you know what, i'm not gonna say anything

you can say whatever you want, just make sure its in the spirit of civil discourse and not trolly. basically, be an adult who is ready to have a conversation about it, rather than a troll who just drops a drive by, negative comment with zero intention to have a discussion about it.

related: thank you to the mods for swiftly taking out the trash ITT. it was fair moderation, and helps keep the thread from turning into a shit show. thats why gaf is the best forum to discuss gaming.

and the game looks fun! the trailer is lacking in hype, and i think thats great. i hate all the tropey, in your face, adrenaline pumping trailers weve been getting for every piece of media over the last decade. this just looks like a fun, chill halo, that gives you freedom to approach the game how you want, probably includes some fun exploration and hidden stuff, and just looks like an experience that i will be enjoying for several years.

in the books, the spartans are quite sneaky most of the time. and although you could sneak in previous halos, it wasnt really meant to be a sneaky game. i have a hunch we'll be able to be a little more stealthy in this halo and im really looking forward to it. its almost a dream come true for the halo geek in me. id love to see halo branch even more into the open world concept. maybe one day it'll be an open galaxy where we can travel to different planets and different halo rings, earth, reach, harvest, etc., and approach the gameplay however we want. this could be a great new beginning for the halo series.

good job 343, looking forward to december.

Lighting sees minor improvements
Texture work looks noticeably improved (although this could be a result of the lighting changes bringing this out more)
Draw distances look VASTLY improved

The latter two make the most difference to the overall visual fidelity of the vistas in-game.

From the video, the particle effects see massively improved also.

The animations are still a bit choppy, but overall it's a significant step up from the initial reveal.

The rocky textured landscapes are MUCH more visually appealing than the weird seemingly untextured hexagonal columns in the previous reveal. This new footage still has the hexagonal columns too, but they seem to have scaled back their prevalence and improved the texturing on them too.

You have to remember that this is a game. And it's running at a beautiful 60fps. The in game cut scenes match anything that's out there. I think 343i's graphics team did a great job.
I'm aware and expect more from a big IP with a powerful box driving it.

I don't want to reiterate the points but it's been what it's been and an extra year has helped but I wasn't expecting miracles to begin with.

Most people concerned about textures & lighting, but my main concern and hope is that the a.i. is up to classic Halo standards, because the level design looks amazing. Textures be damned, if I'm going to be carving through these forests in a warthog, with two banshees blasting at me between the trees.

I hope they are much better than in Halo 5 honestly. On Legendary they are shite. I'm getting blasted by a warden and they are looking at a wall smelling each others asses.

Campaign is 60 FPS ? Then it's great, can't wait to find those quiet, ambient areas where you can relax and look around after fights.

No worries, we can all like different things. I can tell you from having played the multiplayer that the graphics are not a concern for most that played it. It was very good. What I'm more interested in than anything is how they nail traversal, map/mission UI & encounter design & replayability.

Halo needs a good, well written campaign with amazing scripted moments and player/physics driven excitement, not just another barren open world directionless fetch quest full of bullet sponges.
Yeah, this is my opinion as well. Graphically I don‘t see much improvement, though I didn’t have problems with the reveal at all either. I mean, what do you expect from an openworld 1080p60fps game targeting Xbox One? I didn’t understand the hate back then. Though I guess this is just a fanboy thing on both sides. The real “problem” for me is that it looks the same as the previous titles (not graphically, but the game itself), no innovation and from what they showed it’s generic openworld game #3535 with a Halo skin. This should be like the first titles, handcrafted levels with which they could also melt our faces graphics-wise. I will get it eventually as I’m sure it will be a good game but it didn’t make me excited enough to get it day one.

The Ubisoft formula is here to save the day.
Let's not give Ubisoft the credit of being the only open-world developers out there. The comparisons to those games is silly, because they have uninspired gameplay and checklist-driven "missions".

Halo's core strength has always been the immediate gameplay. Combining that with a semi-open world is much more interesting than another dull Ubisoft design.

I'm looking forward to the MP as well.

I'm also disappointed about lack of split screen at launch unless that's changed as well.

Still looking forward to it. I may let the kids play it on the Series S.

Looks alot better but at the same time halo has never been about graphics. Its always had that kind of colourful flat look. Still, this is acceptable unlike the horrid showing last year.

Even though I’ve only ever played about 3/4ths of the original Halo as a kid (accidentally deleted my save file cause I was stupid), this is somehow making me nostalgic for it. It is really reminiscent of the first game, and I’ve always loved that theme song. Hopefully that means it’ll be the great experience that actual Halo fans have waited for. The voiceover on the trailer is truly terrible though. Sorry! 😂

A Halo campaign with fucking legit RPG elements and so much to do in the environment and world that it has RPG like points of interest after capturing locations or completing objectives. You can use a forward operating base as a rally points for marine fire support, fast travel, access weapon variants, get vehicle drops, and you "gain valor" to unlock resources at all forward operating bases. So when you need some fresh marine support you can go get it from a forward operating base.

This is the type of game design I was fucking hope to get from this game. We also have true mini-boss encounters with enhanced capability compared to normal enemies. Amazing, amazing.

I'm really excited about the move to open world and there being compounds you can take out if you feel like it. It does feel a bit Far Cry, but that's a loop in the Far Cry games that I really enjoy. As for tightly scripted moments, I have to imagine there's bases/locations where it's exactly that.

That trailer sold me.

Breh he straight up went into an outpost to shut it down in the trailer lol. I didn't mean that as a bad thing, it just is what it is. That type of gameplay loop will serve Halo well.

I am going to play this regardless but that was seriously unimpressive, it was like a low budget trailer (hate voiceover and cuts without straight gameplay for a final showing) with snail pace gameplay.

Really wish we got co-op day one but im too eager to see what the story has to offer to wait for that.

At the very least it looks better than the first time they showed it.

Gameplay looks as expected. Gameplay loop looks like it's going the Far Cry route, but also looks like it will offer far less variety. The outpost clearing might get old really fast, or it could turn out better than expected.

Lots of improvements visually, but I can't unsee the copy pasta trees all over the place.

Hoping there are some interesting random events/encounters in the world.

Not having co-op at launch when the gameplay loop would be perfect for it is lame.

i liked how relaxed it was

it wasnt the same old tired, in your face, trombones going "BWAAAAAHHHHH" and other shit that trope infested trailers have been doing for the last decade

While I can live with Infinite's presentation, part of me still wonders how the game would have looked were it not for last gen consoles. Given that MP and SP are a separate package, I hope they will treat SP as the premium experience going forward for high end hardware and leave the MP to be as multiplat as possible.

Yeah, he also jumped like Mario and fired a gun like Duke Nukem.

i do see what you’re saying but I’m being a bit facetious because I really think this will be an experience much different from a Ubisoft title.

I'll pick it up on the cheap one day to play with a friend or two. Doesn't look like anything we haven't already seen (in terms of gameplay) and I think I'm kind of done with open-world for the moment. Halo just needs a tight combat flow with a strong narrative. While I was never a huge fan of the Halo games I do think some of them managed to combine these two aspects really well, especially when the combat spaces opened up a bit but still kept pushing the player forward. Halo going open-world doesn't do a whole lot for me and considering you get half the game for free (and that co-op isn't even ready at launch) I'll give it a miss for now.

See you in a LTTP thread in 6 years or something hah.

Best looking game I've seen all year.
You know what for the sheer size of the game the advanced physics, the different ways you can play every encounter all in open world environments filled with dozens of AI and running at 60fps. I'd say this game on a technical level is far beyond what most games can even dream about and it has no business looking this good, but more importantly seems to play better than it looks, 343 redemption is coming I feel.

Looks good, should be fun. I just hope the story/progression doesn't get completely lost for "open world".
