Some REALLY nice footage here (and i'm not necessarely talking about the redhead who speak first), also some explanations about the board game.

I think we all need to revalue how good this game really looks...

That redhead looks hot, but very annoying. I can't take it.

About Hero Lighting - it's rendered on different render pass then the normal lighting. That's why it only affects characters. The chainge in intensity is not a performance thing - as the lighting is still there it hits performance the same way. It's just the esthetics. I've seen many people pointing out that characters look strange becasue of that (also in Zero Dawn) so Guerrilla made a good decision. Still it cuts out characters from the background but it also makes them look better in like 99% situations.

This is a problem in games - how something looks is dependent on lighting. You can't control lights in games all the time just to make characters look good. That's why people can post screens with crapy looking characters from beautiful games. This feature helps with that but has a cost. For Horizon it's ok because the whole game is trying to show everything in ideal conditions, so it's already breaking the realism.

my copy arrived this morning, had a few hours to digest so far.

AMAZING. Holy fucking shit does this game look good on PS5. I have seen better graphics only in linear shooters like Metro Exodus - the fact they pulled off this level of detail in an open world is just mind blowing.
You playing quality or performance?

Game looks gorgeous but I'm amazed at the amount of people here saying they will play the game at 30 fps.
I see the difference in visuals and resolution but watching Gamersyde switching from 60 to 30 at around 17:50 is rough.
I don't know, I'll have to try it for myself I guess.

Resolution mode for me all the way, can't sacrifice that high IQ just for the 60fps

Seeing a lot of ”First xx minutes of Horizon Forbidden West” on Youtube. I guess all embargos are lifted.

I remember seeing John say something about that they had a limit of how much they could show or something. I reckon we’ll get that PS4 vs PS5 breakdown today with all the details on what differs between the two.

This game looks incredible, I don't think I can bend and buy it though with Elden ring out next week, this is a good time to be a gamer, lots of new options coming out in the next few weeks, HFW,Elden Ring, GT7, something for everybody.

I think it's the combo of DRS and checkerboarding that don't work well together. Remember Avengers? Funny, it had the same 1800p checkerboarding as Horizon and DRS and the image quality sucked compared to the fidelity mode.

I'm holding out a little hope that Horizon won't be as bad. Nx gamer said that the loss in image quality is 'noticeable but worth it'. I don't trust that though because my eyes are seeing a big drop in clarity. He tends to fanboy out a little for certain p

How much does that tv cost? Are you really playing an 85 micro led?
Hehe, correction- mini led

Playing Ratchet in RT performance on an 85" micro led monster and it looks crisp. If I were to do an a/b test- the regular mode may look sharper? Who knows. Point being we don't play games like that. If what you are seeing is blowing your mind - what more can one want.

I tied the 40fps in 120 mode. Found the motion to be a downgrade over 60 and not my preference.

Yeah it does look sharp to be fair. Actually all 3 modes look really good.

40fps looks the best but there's just the slight lack of smoothness.

Performance RT looks good and smooth but not quite as pin sharp as fidelity.

Performance looks smooth and perfectly sharp, just no RT.

Given that I think the RT ie a waste of time, that's the best one for me. But I wouldn't care if I had to play on either of the others.

I have the game but it seems as though you cant yet play the PS5 version, like digital we have to wait for the game to go live at midnight to be able to upgrade even the disc version to PS5 (annoying)

It is due spoilers… I’m glad the previous didn’t have any spoiler into.

Now it is time to stop watching videos because people are posting the full game.

Is this where I'm supposed to pretend I'm impressed and know everything about textures and photoshop? Because I honestly can hardly tell a meaningful difference here.
You know when watch Football/Soccer and Messi scores an amazing goal and you show the video to a friend who doesn’t watch Football/Soccer and their reaction is “Ah okay”. It is basically that.

Looks phenomenal. The foliage gifs are impressive. Back when people were saying Aloy was fat, or that the game looked cross-gen, I kept saying that this will be the best-looking game when it releases, and that is a fact. You can nitpick it all you want, but when you show anyone some of these scenes, all they're going to see is a gorgeous game. Mad respect to Guerilla, because they've been delivering graphical masterpieces for 2 decades now. This is just what they do. You can question any aspect of a Guerilla game, except the visuals. Top-level graphics is their bread and butter.

Honestly no clue why they didn't opt for RT reflections or any RT for that matter.
I often wonder if people are being serious when they say stuff like this.

“I have no idea why they didn’t use this incredibly expensive rendering technique in this already resource heavy game. I mean, it just makes no sense to me.”

Come on man, you’re clearly fairly tech savvy being on a video game forum, why do you think they didn’t use it?

Mostly like RT was out of question due the cross-gen nature… just my guesses.

They didn’t want to make two different render that is like what cross gen games do.

Cross gen limit the scope of you game unless you double the time (and money) to do the same thing in two different ways.

Anyway, people are already playing the game on twitch, for anybody wanting to see what the game is about.

Its fine to be clueless, don't drag my comments down to your level tho.

Here is another comparison. She is in the sun towards the end and the hero lighting is still flat.

The hero lighting made her pop more and made her look CG.
I don't know man, the hero lighting made her glow unnaturally, but I can see why you like it. I think I like the more subtle approach, but it would be cool to have an option for (low)-(medium)-(high)-(off)
