According to Bloomberg, God of War Ragnarok game is currently planned to be released in November.

No offense but the PC release hardly set the world on fire, I don’t think it shows that people are salvating for more of the same old God of War. Steam charts says it’s behind Halo Infinite, which most think bombed, and it’s 5 times lower than old ass Skyrim, 10 times lower than Elden Ring, half of No Man’s Sky. Etc.

PS fans are no doubt excited but I absolutely think a new trailer is needed, to show what’s new. Horizon had a 14 minute gameplay focused State of Play, why do we expect less for a much bigger IP?
So it sold more than 20m, it's still well received 4 years after it was released, it's one of the most awaited games for this year. What else do you want from it?

Are you really comparing the expectations of Halo Infinite a F2P multiplayer game to God of War a port of a 2018 game sold initially at full price? The God of War series has zero history on PC and it's a strictly single player game, hardly what usually sells well on PC.

What about the console release? Could be that GoW caters more to people that own PlayStation than PCs. And even without the numbers on PC it still sold extremely well.
Yeah console release will do fine I just commented on the PC release talk.
But listen to the talk, right now it’s just about if it’s getting delayed or not, I barely see anyone talking about the gameplay. A focused gameplay trailer is needed which show what’s new.

Revealing Tyr in the last trailer already pissed me off we definitely don't need another trailer lol just bring the date I'm ready

I wasn’t the one who started talking about the Steam release…..

I never even said it sold well on PC (I have no idea of how well it sold), it literally has overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam and that is what I mentioned.

My point was that the original game aged really well, the whole thing about it being just DLC is an absurd narrative, the same narrative that surrounded Miles Morales, a game that was ridiculously successful, Sony have no reason to be worried about it and I doubt they care even a little bit about it.

This is not how marketing works. And there is this cloud over the game remember?

1.looks like a DLC.
2. More of the same.
3. Recycled animations.

This is the thing. From a marketing/PR point of view, the trailer shown was weak. Just remember how Sony showed GoW 2018 for the first time: With a fucking live orchestra, live and uninterrupted gameplay.

That gameplay alone had the gravitas this new God of war has failed to convey.

So yep. They fucking NEED a new uninterrupted gameplay trailer with the release date at the end ASAP, followed by a "lunch trailer" close to release. With the PR cycle in-between.
I'm sure Sony knows more about marketing than you do. Those 3 points you mentioned came from Xbox Twitter fan pages. Not a single soul that's actually waiting for the game thinks about the fact there's recycled animations... those criticisms aren't even valid. Did we complain about recycled animations in every Uncharted game? Or tomb raider, previous god of war games that looked and played similarly, etc?

The entire month of June this game was mentioned left and right and not because there's lack of gameplay. But because everyone wants it released this year. Sony isn't trying to sell us a game that will have the sales already. They know what people want: a release date. That's how they are ending this month with.

I understand delays caused by sick actors and so on.
But you can't fucking drop "ragnarok is coming in 2021" in 2020 and then sit quiet for 2 more years lol.
Not like the game needs any hype or trailers too but it wouldn't hurt.
Sony secrecy is getting annoying
Nintendo does this all the time. Doesn't stop this train.

what train?
It's still the 2018 gow train choochooin along
What train? 4 to 5 threads about this game always reaching 10 pages deep or more?

That's a healthy ass gravy train. We go through these very same motions each and every time. People complain about lack of info, people complain about being spoiled by info... info comes out, marketing blitzes ramp up, and everyone forgets the lunch they ate yesterday.

Rinse. Repeat.

Exactly, it's annoying to us but that's it, Sony is hardly under pressure over it releasing or needing more hype, they could easily get away with delaying it to 2023 if the needed to.

You know what's recycled?

Us internet dweebs constantly in a broken record every other month for years and years with fake concern, free FUD pedaling (or maybe for socks and shit), and pessimistic doom & gloom, weather it's an Xbox or PS thread.

I don’t believe people are worried about how the game will turn out. They are worried about if it’s coming this year or not. Haven’t seen anyone say they haven’t shown the game because it’s going to be terrible. I honestly don’t believe thru will deliver a bad game.

With that said I’m sure they will show us more footage in the future however it’s not what people want the most.

What do you need a new trailer for? We don't need to see more gameplay. And I certainly do not want more story revealed. Just give me a date.

The trailer didn't need to be 9 minutes long. Sony should attempt to market the game though. You know.....at least care about the damn thing! I miss the Sony of yore, that actually cared about hyping up the fans of video games. Those guys knew why this industry is so fun. Jim Ryan is just a suit and a bean counter. He's a decent executive, but he doesn't play games. He's not of the culture, so he doesn't understand why showcasing a release date in a blog post is STUPID AND BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy with just a blog post. A trailer to build up hype would just be chock full of spoilers anyway

Look at how sad we gamers are getting. It's freaking nuts man.

Everyone that wanted to play the game at that point already had played. People don’t honestly wait for “pc releases” aside from a select few.

You do know they can announce a release date and release trailers down the line? Why so much concern? SSM don’t seem concerned, do they?

This new found secrecy where everything is a secret SUCKS. Its the R* approach, which has always sucked.

Video games are the only industry where everything is a secret, and release dates are some kind of unicorn.

Why can Marvel announce release dates for films years in advance? This was released in like 2019

But we have to beg and moan for a release date with no update from anyone for over a year? Just a bunch of false rumors and "insiders" spewing nonsense. Its retarded.

I’m on the fence about Sony’s strategy of showing/hyping up games only when they’re ready. I mean, I don’t deny how cool it was when they first revealed the GoW soft reboot. Live orchestra, on-stage demo etc. But I was also sad to know that it was going to be a while before it actually released

Look at Nintendo and even Rockstar. They’re both successful. They both drip-feed us info only when they’re ready. Their games sell. Maybe Sony is doing the same - again, I’m on the fence about this but so far, I think it’s working for Sony. Here we are, still discussing the release date because we still don’t know the release date yet

Lol at the people calling this game DLC because it’s going to play similar to the previous GoW. Remember when GT7 had guns to differentiate itself from GT6?? Or when FH5 launched as an isometric puzzle game instead of a damn racing game??

Again, and as I said to the other guy. I am talking about marketing.

The fact that people are salivating over anything about this game proves my point exactly.
This game is going to sell well because of the 2018 game and the studio's track record. Marketing will eventually ramp up but to say that they NEED a new trailer at this time is false

Wait wat? I am an expert. A videgame forum expert. I know about art, design, economics, law, big tech, politic, religion, philosophy, pop culture and the stock market. I am an expert I tell you. Please like and subscribe.

Those 3 points you mentioned came from Xbox Twitter fan pages.
Not entirely.

Not a single soul that's actually waiting for the game thinks about the fact there's recycled animations..
and the marketing is not for them (the are already sold).
those criticisms aren't even valid.
You can not have it both ways bro. Are starfield cricisms even valid then?

Did we complain about recycled animations in every Uncharted game? Or tomb raider, previous god of war games that looked and played similarly, etc?
I dunno. I wasn't there (general discourse) back then.

The entire month of June this game was mentioned left and right and not because there's lack of gameplay. But because everyone wants it released this year. Sony isn't trying to sell us a game that will have the sales already.
Again. You are talking about an specific group of people. I am talking about the marketing in general.

The point you are making doesn't apply to how marketing works...you don't need to be expert to see that.

They know what people want: a release date. That's how they are ending this month with.
You are talking about this month then. I am talking about the general marketing this game has had.

Good for you pal, nobody is asking u to watch it. But the fact is that this game has been announced since 2020 and all they have to show for it is an underwhelming three minute trailer. That's unheard of for a big Sony game.

I don't think it's too much to ask for at least 1% of excitement with my hobby. I'm 100% against this stoic view of video games that Jim Ryan has introduced. I'm from the era of GAF (pre-break up) that would have 200 or 300 page threads for each major company's E3 conference. We used to say the word MEGATON all the time. Execs believed in dropping BOMBS! Nah. ER is more of the same, DS on open world, with recycled animations. You wrote a load of nonsense.
No really. I wrote the true-true.

Nobody cares about recycled animations and games being more of the same.
Again discourse baby, discourse. Even developers talked about this bro.

Sequels are usually more of the same. Nobody cares.
Wrong. You need to be categoric about that.

More of the same:

The same progression?
The same enemies?
The same levels/puzzles?
The same gameplay/mechanics?

That would be a disaster.

Core gameplay more or less the same? Absolutely.

I guarantee you Santa Monica is going to implement:

New gameplay/ mechanics
New puzzles
New and more enemies
New and more bosses.
Tweak and improve old stuff.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
If this gets a midnight release between Dec 31 and Jan 1, does it count as a win for team 2022 or team 2023 ?

Why are you acting like you have no idea what a God of War game is going to be like? This isn't some new IP. Look, if they show another trailer then fine, but I don't get this massive overreaction. It is complaining for the sake of complaining.

To be fair at this point I can either be happy to play it this year... with a terrible avatar for several months on its way to launch. Or I can look forward to 2023 safe in the knowledge someone else has to have a terrible avatar until it comes out.

Why are you concerned? Yes, all DS games, ER included, are the same game as Demon’s Souls with iterations on its formula. Some of them even reuses the same bosses from other games. The animations and weapons are pretty much the same since demon’s souls, with some minor tweaks and additions here and there. That’s just a fact, whether you like it or not.

I am not concerned ®.
same ≠ iterative. You defeat your own "argument" about " more of the same". Words are important...and have a meaning.

If you want to argue semantics and look silly, be my guest, since that’s all you can do because you know you’re wrong again. The original point that the games are largely more of the same still stands. Take the L.
And, yes, you look very CONCERNED.

Jim Ryan clearly doesn't value E3 that much and isn't about that. He does his one big event a year (the Showcase) and that's it. Some State of Plays are good but most are pretty disappointing.

I suspect this new strategy from Sony might actually be better for them as they minimize the risk while still getting pretty much the same visibility or even more for their games.

The irony is that so far Jim Ryan has more than delivered in terms of content despite everything yet Sony became somewhat even worse as far as communicating with the core audience, even the State of Play themselves aren't used to their full extent, plenty of them are really low effort.
