Elden Ring is not even as good as Bayonetta 3

Not sure this is true.

Overwatch destroyed Uncharted 4, and God of War won over what’s probably the best cinematic game of all time, RDR2.

Sure, God of War had cutscenes and a big focus on story, but was also the most gamey and gameplay centric western videogame ever made.

It’s not an ironclad rule but it is their preference. Narrative driven games win more often than not.

Ragnarok really picks up the pace and does a great job with its payout, but it still has objectives blocking your path with gizmos needing to be tinkered with in order to proceed. It’s great, but it feels like I’m just climbing a big playground. I can’t wait to see the bosses and environments in late game. I voted for Elden Ring because I felt like I was researching the best builds, constantly trying to push further on the map, and the bosses felt like fighting the next epic Colossi in Shadow of the Colossus.

I haven’t gotten to mid game God of War Ragnarok, but that’s what I think so far. It almost feels unfair to compare the two. I wouldn’t compare the games outside this poll.

Duplicate: This thread can be closed, I searched around but I couldn't find another similar thread. Mod of War Mod of War can you close?
eh I think it's better to do it now after the new God of War released, the fact the other one closed before the reviews came out was kinda ridiculous since it was forcing people to decide without having all the information

About 5 hours into GOW...omg the hype in this game is insane...but one thing no game can create is the organic badassery of a from software game. The boss fights in gow have a ton of set dressing to make it bad ass. Elden ring is often you, a boss and the better you play the more badass you feel. Placidusax is a perfect example of how boss battle design without any cutscenes, quick time events etc can just be amazing if the gameplay is perfect.

I can’t vote for some reason but after two hours of GoW today, I’d wager Elden Ring wins at the VGAs. ER completely enthralled me from start to finish, GoW still could grab me after playing more but so far I’d wager my avatar on ER.

Ahhh. Well, as long as others don't take too much issue, I legit searched for a duplicate thread and couldn't find one.

That pretty much how I feel about it. The games are very different in so many ways.
It's fair to compare them both as action adventure games. TBH both having norse mythos as a major basis, being action adventure games where the combat is a major focus. They just tell their stories in vastly different ways, but there are enough similarities to have a discussion.

Elden Ring is a great game and was the first souls like that I was able to play for more than a couple of hours. I get it’s praise without a doubt.

But Ragnarok is superior in every possible way in my opinion. The presentation, the story, voice acting, gameplay etc. God of war is the logical choice for game of the year for me.

Gow got this. It will be close but gow will have more overall.
The story is Holywood as hell the fights are pretty bombastic. And is easier.

If I had to pick I would Gow. I'm really getting tired of the die a billion times just to progress in Souls game, and story is pretty much non existent.
Even saying that elden ring is a masterpiece.

IMO this is the easiest GOTY we've had in recent years, Elden Ring has zero competititon and true gamers know this, it's a before and after game kinda like Ocarina of Time in 1998, GoW ain't changing shit for gaming besides keep increasing the crazy amounts of money thrown at AAA Movies err...games sorry.

Stopped reading at "true gamers"

What exactly does a true gamer like you think has changed since Elden Ring?

Indeed, it’s always easy when one game is exclusive to one platform you don’t have.

Also nice to be reminded again God of War is a movie right after putting 70 hours in the first one while feeling sore hands for the combat mechanics.

It's going to change how open world games are designed from here on.

Remember how butthurt Ubisoft devs were about Elden Ring? it's because they know their open world formula is no longer relevant.

I've had a PS5 since launch.

The movie thing was just a joke, come on man it's the classic AAA joke, and I mean the game has like 10 hours worth of cutscenes so I'd say it's even more of a movie than an actual movie.

Hmm, I don´t know about that one. Ubisoft already tried to change the design with Oddysey's "explore" mode.

As I said before, I get why people love Elden Ring. It´s fantastic. And I loved its open-world approach. But it's not gonna change the industry. Red Dead 2 was also bold and different and deliberately slow. Did that change anything?

Souls-like games already changed the industry once as they have created their own kind of genre. Nobody can take that away from them. But I just don´t see how Elden Ring can do something like Ocarina of time or Mario did back in the day. That was truly groundbreaking shit.

I thought it was Horizon devs that were upset. Was it both?

A joke has to be somewhat grounded in reality to be effective, calling a metroidvania 70 hour game with the deepest combat mechanics ever made by a western studio by a country mile "Movie" is not funny, just trolling.

5 and half hours of cutscenes in a game like God of War are nothing, not to mention you could potentially play for literally hundreds of hours without seeing a single cutscene.

I get you, but you've picked the wrong game.
