Has anyone had issues with the water? I can’t tell if I’m tripping but it seems to be like almost I see through the level entirely in the water on the ground? It’s not a reflection - and I don’t think it’s trying to be - I turned RT on and off it made no difference

I had a textural glitch like that on XSX - a hard reboot (holding down the power button, and then unplugging the console) solved it.

So I just arrived at the island and only now it feels as if I understood the more advanced gameplay concepts of the game. I played the OG numerous times, but the remake is really different on many levels. Not very obvious at first glance, but all the little things they added and changed really change the experience. I like it.

Playing on harder difficulties really forces one to be more creative in the way they kill. Shooting minotaurs and chainsaw fuckers in the legs and meleeing them repeatedly, seems to be a better (read: more ammo conserving) way of killing them, for instance. Also: parries. Parrying will often lead to a melee follow-up, so it's one of the most important tactics on, say, Professional. It giving you way more money than ammo reinforces this (allowing you to constantly fix your knife).

I think it is a Quick Resume glitch. Didn't even have to restart the console. Just dropped it out of QR and came back and it was fine. Only happened once, though.

Anyway, great game. Didn't have time to play it much, but got to the lake and I like it better than Village.

Ashley gasping for air behind me while I'm casually exploring is annoying as hell. Please patch that Capcom.

Other than that, this game is fucking spectacular, just as the original was. Just did the fight with the blind guy (whatever he's called), and it was amazing. Retains the spirit of the original fight, but amps up the atmosphere and tension by a million. Holy shit. So cool.

Also I feel like this game's visuals start looking way better toward the end of the village. That huge rainstorm in the main village looked insanely good. Which is weird because the rain effects before that looked very meh. It's like Capcom suddenly realized it was a PS5 game lol. And the Castle looks awesome so far. Interested to see what the island looks like.

Can we all agree that this game's ammo system is horrible compared to the OG game?

And, question: do destroyed Salazar dolls 'carry over' to NG+?

Gotta have crafting cuz itz popular, I don't like it either.
Anyway at the end, games excellent but the original is a better game, balance is totally broken the village is way to hard at first since the low rate of fire and weak stopping power makes enemies way to hard to stun for melees and have way to few resources plus the knife breaks way to fast early on
Plus the villagers punch attacks are way to fast
Outside of Ashley the original voices are far far better especially saddler and Krauser

Yeah, do a first run through on normal, and then NG+ on hardcore or professional once you're more experienced and better tooled up. Gives you a good excuse to replay it.
I would say either stick with hardcore or start over, not going to lie it took me about 9hrs to fully understanding the parry system and that there's moments it's okay to run away unless you're mining items but normal or whatever it's called is so easy that I felt like it was a pushover. At this point I die maybe once or twice a chapter, if at all, it's very much like the original in the sense that the game expects you get better and when you do you're chaining headshots, roundhouse kicks and face stabs like no one's business.
Cheers lads, got stuck into it properly last night on normal, you're right Ghost, the parry system took a bit of getting used to but got there in the end

I will say that the aiming on the Series X does feel sluggish, I turned off chromatic and it seemed a tad better, might be my imagination though. Think i'll restart on hard now

Love it. The shoot outs you can get into can feel epic

..Not really a fan of the new voice of the merchant though. Wish they just kept the original.

Last night I left off right after defeating
Verdugo.

I think the word I’d use to describe the game overall so far is “Sidegrade.”

Level design wise, the Village was mostly structured the same as the original, with a few changes that don’t really make or break anything.

When you get to the castle though that changes a lot. There’s a lot of the same/similar rooms to the original castle, but in different locations like a remix. Again not necessarily better or worse, as most of the memorable areas are represented.

I would say the original (level design wise), flows better because the remake seems to like making you go to dead end paths with key items more, but it’s not a huge deal.

Voice acting wise I think it’s worse. Leon, Ashley, and Luis are fine, but everyone else just seems less memorable or straight up bad (*Cough* Ada). Haven’t gotten to Krauser yet but from the trailers his voice just sounds like a teenager trying to sound like Solid Snake, and is way less intimidating than the original, deeper voice. Saddler sounds way more generic and less theatrical, losing a bunch of his charm. Salazar is just ok so far, but lacks screen time.

The gameplay additions though, make up for this. Making the knife even more integral to the combat is genius. Parrying and upgrading the knife is crucial. The combat feels both easier and harder at the same time. Enemies (on Normal) seem to be less damage spongey than OG, but more plentiful.

The Water room in particular seems like the opposite of the original in terms of difficulty. The fight at the bottom of the staircase was way easier than the Ashley sniping section, whereas in the OG it’s the opposite.

I kinda wish crafting wasn’t a thing though, because I found myself crafting for most of my ammo in the Castle, and I could just do without the middleman of “resources.” It gives the choice of what ammo I need to craft I guess, but the game could also just use the OG’s dynamic ammo drops to give me what I’m short on and save me from the fluff that is modern crafting systems.

Overall, so far this is a RE2R situation, and I’m relieved.

Yeah, I'm here. I'm loving it but I'll have a hard time ranking it at year end because the original was already so good, and I still don't know which I prefer right now. Probably neither, they both do different things well.

If anything it makes me want to immediately try out the VR version of the OG just for yet another perspective.

Anyone know if Infiltration from the original's soundtrack made it into this game? Haven't noticed any familiar themes outside of the save music.

The whole lake and del lago fight looked like shit on PS5. The rain also looked really bad, like if it was pre patch.
I can't tell if I'm just being nitpicky or if the game has wild swings in quality in terms of graphics. I thought the opening and village area looked great but then as we descend further into "random woods and shed" territory, it became weirdly sterile and boring looking.

The culmination so far has been the PS3 castle in the distance. Especially after a decade of me ripping through every Souls game, the castle in the distance here looks like a basic-bitch LEGO set. Total Shittyflute Jurassic Park type moment. Also think all the rickety wood structures around the lake look noticeably bad.

I haven’t reached that point yet, but people have said in 4 Remake there‘s a fairly obvious sequel hook for 5 that was not present in the original version of 4. I highly doubt they’d put that in there if it wasn’t at least being discussed.

RE 6 sold 11.6 million making it #2, 5 sold 13.4 million making it #1 highest seller.

I love RE5. Yeah it wasn't as solid as RE4 at the time, and it felt like a copy paste dumbed down version of it but I think the gunplay felt even better, the ground stomps were great, its Mercs I still play from time to time. In co-op the game is actually a ton of fun, especially the DLC chapters.

I was thinking a remake is kind of useless but now I think not. If they implement the sun brightness and all things they initially wanted to do, it can be a fun romp. RE5 Remake could be a fun co-op game with lots of replayability and they can ofcourse double down on Mercs. There are many new solo RE games now, RE5 could be a nice change of pace.

It was weird cause during the village section and early castle section I barely had ammo to use, like I was desperately buying weapons to get some ammo with the guns. But once I got to the final parts of the castle and near the end of island, I was basically swimming in ammo.

The fact that enemies never really drop ammo and you can't buy ammo either, you're completely at the mercy of crates and what they decide to give you.
Enemies do drop gun powder but it can be very limiting as to what you can craft. I was almost always out of small resource bags cause I wanted handgun and shotgun ammo but I had a lot of large resource bags just sitting in inventory cause I didn't need the ammo they provided.

You can also use the bolt gun to save some ammo but that's the most boring and underwhelming gun in the game...

The gun powder to resource ratio is WAY off. Maybe it's because I never crafted a single bit of handgun ammo but I've been selling off resources because it's just not worth hanging on to them for the little amount of gunpowder I get.

Not a fan of the new Ramon fight, half the time you can’t see shit, the dude is moving all around the room too fast and the walls constantly obstructing your vision.

Chasing a boss who moves too fast, while avoiding shit in the terrain and getting the shots in is not good. Maybe if they made Gyro available…
I agree. I got stuck on Ramon's fight last night on Hardcore.

I've played RE4 OG maybe 5 times, including beating it on Professional difficulty, and Ramon was a pain in that, too. I'd typically just use my Rocket Launcher to one-shot him. I may end up doing the same thing in Remake

I'm on Professional on a fresh new game. The Riot Shotgun with full power and the 1.5x damage bonus melts that mother fucker. I died 8 times to him on Hardcore, I didn't die at all on Professional. That gun is a beaut to kill bosses with.

I use them to get Rifle and Shotgun ammo. If you manage to get charms that increases you chance to get bonus ammo when you craft, that also helps. I'm running on a fresh new game on Professional Difficulty, and despite always using my Riot Shotgun on Bosses and occasionally with really tough enemies, I always have 30+ shotgun rounds in my inventory.

The game is really amazing, but it is far from the right pacing and combat from the original.

Also, why the fuck am I struggling with ammo all the fucking time? 80% of the barrels and boxes have small amounts of money that serve no purpose, you can’t buy shit with 20 barrels of 100-900 pesetas.

The ammo system is broken, I hope they fix it in the future.

The cost of upgrades and the money you get from treasures also doesn’t make sense, I have treasures complete with stones that can’t buy a fucking upgrade, this isn’t even the end game, this is the fucking castle.

I think I’ll get more fun out of this in NG+

All this makes me appreciate even more the work that Mikami and the team did for RE4, the balance is perfect for everything: ammo, pacing, action, exploration, replayability, guns.

Using NG+ weapons. Prepping for the New Game Professional S+ rank run.
179 saves!!!!
guess it don't effect the Rankings then.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Nope, saves or health item don't affect rank, only time. The only thing effected other than time is that if you use any of the bonus weapons, you can only get S rank, not the S+ rank.

Also that is my 4th play through lol, the saves are counted cumulatively across all the runs.

To the people who are complaining about a lack of ammo. Which attache case were you using? The one I had on had a Pesetas perk which gave me more money on drops. Also, there's stuff like the charms in the shooting galleries that can help give you advantages you need. I'm playing on hardcore and I never really had much of an issue with ammo. Use the systems as intended and you will have ammo.
I personally like that the game has all this stuff in it, makes replays more fun and unpredictable

Game is fantastic, i'm on the final boss and honestly prefer this to the original game. There's still some elements I like more in the original but the combat, story, tone.....it's just better.

If youre having a hard time with ammo on thry default difficulty, you're just not good at the game lol. This is definitely harder than the original, but its still not bad.
It's possible they might not be using the melee and parrying mechanics. Also possible they might not be upgrading their weapons or exploring properly.

I agree on normal difficulty, i almost never run out of ammo. I always have like 60-90 SMG ammo if i ever run out sniper rifle or shotgun ammo.

After completing RE4R, I wouldn't be so sure about RE5 not getting a remake.
I'm actually quite looking forward to 5 if they do it like 4, but considering what Capcom does 5 will most likely feel like 3's remake instead of something like 2 and 4...

I am LOVING it. The gameplay is so good. They give you just as much as you can handle with the more hectic encounters.
its bad RNG, sometimes I got 6 shells from 2 barrels, other times from the same barrels I kept getting money, so your theory is wrong.

My first time playing RE4.

Bought it on Series X instead of the PS5, found it looked sharper on there.

Im on chapter 7 now and facing off against some Wolverine looking mofo. Ashley ... man is she ever useless lol.

I have barely any money to buy some of the newer weapons. Keep having to sell.

Enjoying it a lot so far, great atmosphere. Solid game. Could use some tightening in the controls.

Main negatives:

Worst fire/explosion graphics I've seen in years.
Worst water graphics I've seen in years. The leviathan boss at the end of chapter 3 was... terrible.
When Leon gets chainsawed you hear him scream in the death animation, but his face doesn't move.

Other than those 3 things I am loving it. Game has soul. And I only play it at night :messenger_sunglasses:

😳
Seriously?
I been not saving and not using health sprays 😅

Since Alex from DF has been slacking his PC videos lately, this guy on youtube has just been killing it. His Hogarts video was fantastic and this is even better. You can gain a lot of performance by turning down max settings without a noticeable difference.
Thank you for posting this guy.......I used his recommendations for Dead Space, HL and will use this for Re4 when I buy it.

S ranked all of shooting gallery! At first, some tier 3 and 4 felt impossible on the controller but there are some tricks to it and good guides on youtube now to refer to.
Bottom line speed is way more important than accuracy and hitting that sailor penalty is sometimes required

I really want to play it but I am going to wait for Mercenaries and a couple of patches first to iron out the technical issues. Waited for the 60 fps Forbidden West mode to be fixed before playing. It is getting easier to do because my backlog is so big.
