Well that was shite, nothing from Sony's other big hitter studio's, a load of giant sword Snoozefest games and a Spiderman game that looked meh, if you told me that was running on a PS4 Pro I would've believed you, it was visually no different to the last ones.. standout for me was RE4 VR & the next game from Journey devs oh and Alan Wake2

There was some graphical techniques that was like OK seems next-gen. But most of it looked late gen PS4.

They believed the fake leaks, that's why. I expected much less than this, and extremely happy with what I saw so far. Not much gameplay for most games, but excited to see more in the future.

The show's introductory/opener game was the exact same concept as that one Sega(?) GAAS game where you're robbing banks in neon gear and helmets. It needed explanation.
Sony still can't seem to nail the pacing of a great show. Thus, the show itself felt like it was moving too fast and you didn't have any moments to go further into gameplay or concepts. There were a lot of moments where I wanted a traditional showcase-style of a developer explaining their game's concept, because there were some games where I didn't even know what I was looking at, let alone what genre it would be(like Concord).

Yes it was a good show. But it was a terrible Playstation Showcase. Playstation has alot of big studios working on multiple projects for years, and none of them showed up.

The problem, it seems to me, are your expectations. I'm not saying this to be combative, just to stress that you seem to be placing way too much emphasis on this singular showcase, when its just the start of the season.
Look at how the content was selected; it was a mixture of short term stuff (FF XVI, Street Fighter), far-off announcement reveals (Marathon, Metal Gear). Some AAA stuff from EA and Ubi, some indies, etc. etc. The commonality was that it had to be flashy and "cool looking", for want of a better description it took a "shock and awe" approach. Which was why there was so many cinematics and so little gameplay.
Its weird, do you expect Sony to show big titles/franchises that have been previously revealed at every showcase? Because that's absolutely not been their MO for a long time now. They reveal, skip a few opportunities, then spotlight again closer to release. The absence of Rise of the Ronin, or Death Stranding 2, or Silent Hill doesn't mean they've been cancelled or delayed.

Unless Sony has more competition, long gone are the days where The Last Guardian, FF7, Shenmue, etc get announced years in advance. Sony doesn’t need to hype anyone to sell consoles
I hate it, but this is what Jimbo is doing. We haven’t seen any Spider-Man gameplay until today and the game is basically finished

PS3 a year prior to this point in PS5 was objectively better. PS4 a year prior to this point in PS5 was objectively better.
What the hell did they open this show with? I could look it up but as it stands now I can't even remember the name of that generic bag of crap I saw that they allowed to open this thing. And why did they let square even show "foam party"? I'd be too embarassed.
How much cringe translated dialogue and generic rock/orchestra music can they jam into a state of play anyway? I feel like it gets worse every show.
I haven't been more bored by a Sony show in over a decade. That was terrible.

Would have rated a D but considering this being their first showcase since forever and all they could muster was that pitiful eccuse of a showcase I simply have to give it an S.
They seem to be asleep at the wheel and in total cruise control mode. Worst thing is there is no one left to even challenge Sony and take their lunch as the green team is in even worse shape and stumbling around aimlessly after nearly ten years of stringing their fanbase along on empty promises.
So many thoughts going through my head on individual titles shown, the terrible pacing, and all the pre-show hype already deflated with the first trailer of Haven's game. If this shit is what lead Sony to making them first party I can hardly imagine in what shape Deviation's game must have been.
I wanted to give Sony the benefit of the doubt in regards to their GAAS push but all my worst fears seem to have come true.
Then finishing of with the totally mid showing of Spiderman which suddenly looks like the first part on PS4 Pro. Seriously some explosions during the boat scene have to be placeholders as the textures would even embarass some PS3 games. Really a stark contrast to the first teaser shown that suggested we would be getting a real next-gen experience.
And what is going on with lots of games having a neon color palette? I would have hoped that this trend had died with Xdefiant and Hyenas at the latest but seems to be back with a vengeance. Just a terrible artstyle and totally off-putting.
Maybe the Mayans were right and the world ended in 2012 and we are now just in the worst timeline constantly being served schlock labelled as great entertainment and the masses eating it up.

If you're a PS fan, you better hope that MS knocks it out of the park at their show so PS ups their game. I have no clue wtf I am looking forward to playing after Fall 2023 on PS5, and we literally just had the 2023 late/spring almost summer showcase for the first time in 2 years. How do we not know what first party we will be looking to playing after Spiderman at the mid 2023 showcase?
