It would never work well because Vita only supports 802.11n... 802.11ax (and even ac) is vastly superior for latency.

The Q could be successful is if it's priced as a premium controller.
If it's positioned as a DualSense that has the ability to do off-screen play anytime and the cost is reasonable (as it should be with an LCD rather than an OLED), then I reckon it will find a market.
If you were going to buy another DualSense anyway, why not pay a bit more for this one?

I imagine Sony wanted to gauge consumer interest before figuring out how much effort to put in marketing this thing. Based on the response, I imagine Sony will market this less than the PSVR2.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a new PlayStation streaming portable device, ‘Project Q’.
Announced during a PlayStation Showcase event on Wednesday, Project Q is described as “a dedicated device that enables you to stream any game form your PS5 console using remote play over wi-fi”.
According to SIE, the device has an 8-inch 1080p HD screen and all the buttons and features of the DualSense wireless controller.
That handheld design is an eyesore.
Couldn't they have done away with the dualsense handles and just had it curved up around the edge of the screen? You'd have something that looks more distinct and not like a Dualsense that ws chopped in half and superglued to a mini display panel.

The handheld is great.For people with kids who play something else or watch TV the handheld means you can go to another room and play Diablo 4 or factions or scary or gory games you can’t play in front of your kids on the tv.And for people saying why not play on your Tablet this device is also built like a PS5 controller so it has everything the console gameplay has.I think it’s a great idea and a great device.It’s like the switch you can play on the handheld if the tv is not available

For now. Thanks to a push of the EU, they are changing their rules. So within the next few years we'll already see big changes, and it would be easily possible on an iOS device.
It's in the verge article, currently you need to have the game installed on your ps5 which does imply that it's just a remote play device. Hopefully they do change that between now and launch.

I do hope they built actual video streaming tech like what WiiU had or better and it is not just an off the shelf video stream over WiFi solution…
With a touchscreen, maybe a lot of devs would not really do much with it, but it would be nice for games to have optional dual screen features like Wii U had… there is hope (Wii U had poor execution, the concept was not stupid).

Well if the price is right I'll be buying project Q. Makes perfect sense to me, the two Switch's we have are used at home 99% of the time.
What I need to know is can these be used for multiplayer? (Either one person on PS5+TV and one project Q or two project Q's)

I get the appeal of the concept, especially with all the DualSense features. And if it only has a very basic OS, only there for streaming, then it should be very quick to start up and have great battery life.
But just cutting a DualSense in half and attaching it to a tablet... yeah, nah. If it were like the Switch and detachable, sure.

It's been shown time and time again that unless the default launch controller has the feature, most developers will not bother making use of extra hardware features added later.
The WiiU got some great games that used asymmetrical displays; because all WiiU owners were guaranteed to have them. Unfortunately, even for that, that was only just over 10 million people.

You can probably use a regular controller with it also. And I hate the removable controllers on the switch (also that would be extra cost, and separate batteries in the screen and controller sections so no thanks)

The issue isn't comfort, is that's bulky. And this thing won't even stand up properly if wanted to use a normal controller with it (why you would when it's a DualSense itself, I don't know).
Detachable controllers do not need to have their own batteries. They could have made it so that they were detachable and then also made a 'grip' to turn them into a slightly wider DualSense.

All those people talking about $20 and $50 and phone clips must love draining the battery of thier phone and a small screen. 6.2 or 6.4" vs 8" is a huge difference. 56% larger in fact than a 6.4 inch screen.
Plus one would hope at least the software running on one platform vs thousands of phone models would result in better performance latency wise.

It works best when I have the PS5 on wired/ethernet connection and the game mode is performance/60fps. Works better on Steam Deck with Chiaki than on iPhone with the PS Remote Play app. Still more than playable on the phone depending on the game.
A lot of it will come down to the quality of your router.

Bulky? It's only an 8 inch display with dual sense controller on it, it shouldn't be too bad, and it will be light, and who knows, may have a stand at the back or even come with a dock (unlikely those will be sold separate). Either way, I'd just use it as intended so isn't an issue at all for me.
If it was to have the battery in a grip then that's something extra you have to charge and extra expense, to be successful this thing needs to be cheap.

It has all the components of the $70 Dual Sense as well as a 8" 1080p display, an SoC/memory, and a much larger battery. The absolute lowest possible price is $149.99 with $199 being much more likely.
