Media Create Sales: Week 47, 2011 (Nov 21 - Nov 27)

If we mix trackers, we get by the end of Week 48:

3DS Hardware : 2.678.016 + 216.350 = 2.894.366
Four weeks left till the end of the year. If the 3DS averages at 280.000 per week, it will cross the 4.000.000 LTD bar.

Million is a given for MK7 - even 3D Land will probably hit a million before the year ends.

Not sure about Mario. It can be very close to it in five weeks but crossing 1M will not be that easy.

I think that's pretty much guaranteed.

Really impressive hardware sales, not so surprised about Mario Kart. Each week it seems more and more that Nintendo did the right move at the right time.

So it looks like that 3DS will have as many millionsellers as PSP got in its entire lifetime within 3DSs first year (give or take a month).

The Famitsu report actually lists the 3DS's LTD after last week: 2,859,158.

3D Land will get there in spades. Wouldn't be surprised if it shot back to 85-100K for the week along with MK7.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

We had reports about 3D Land picking up due to 3DS rise and MK7, so...

Monster Hunter will have issues reaching 1 mil before the end of the year. Before the end of the fiscal year, though, it shouldn't be a problem.

In the end, Laguna (IIRC) was right with talking about how many Japanese were already online on Mario Kart :p

EDIT: Now that I think about it, this week we could see the greatest Pac-Man graph since what? ...Four years?

This is a little crazy, but if we look at the sales since the Gamecube era, I think we can definitely say that globally, the Kart series has surpassed the Mario main series.
The spin-off who outrank the parent series, do we have another examples in the video game or even movie industry?
What do you consider Mario main series? 2D or 3D, or both 2D and 3D?

Worldwide sales:

SMS - 5.5
SM64DS - 9.65
SMG - 9.31
SMG2 - 6.36

NSMBDS - 27.90
NSMBWii - 21.94

MKDD - 7
MKDS - 21.04
MKWii - 29.73

Unless you consider it to be only 3D, the difference doesn't even come near to what can be seen with other examples posted (namely MH and Warcraft).

Wow. 3DS is hitting it big now.

I still remember in 2005 when the DS was at 5 million and the PSP at 3 million.

That was just mean.
Nah, just fact :) And i dont think that anyone says that the PSP is unsuccesful just because it doesnt have many million sellers.

But personally i'm a bit more interested in comparing the 3DS to the DS instead of the PSP , since the 3DS is the successor to the DS. The DS had 33 million sellers in Japan, so it shall be interesting to see how the 3DS will do compared to this.

"It isn´t really very indicative but online you encounter mostly Japanese gamers in Mario Kart 7. Obviously it´s very successful over there. Maybe a 400k-500k first week? "

Looks like people are ok with buying the same franchise over and over again for like, 20-25 years.

Pretty depressing.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

It hurts doesn't it.... at least you are straight and open about it.

I knew we would have had a great post from French.
Just what I was expecting!

This isn't strictly a Nintendo or Japanese phenomenon. Just look at Call of Duty this gen. There's no reason for Nintendo to do anything but make incremental improvements when their IPs sell this well.

already said what they should do if they wanted to sell units - release it on PSP for this xmas.

It was slamdunk simple, there's no reason to put it on 3DS or Vita right now.

It doens't get any more "perfect condition" that releasing a new iteration of your game that sold a feckton to a set of people who don't have to go and buy new hardware and probably haven't been overly inundated with new games to play.

Worry about 3DS/Vita or whatever when the userbase grows.

If everyone thought like you, no platform would ever take off.

WOuld it be fair to assume if famitsu have announced the Mario kart sales early like they have that Mario kart is the biggest selling game this week?

Some of the million seller on the DS will never happen again(things like Love and Berries, or Tamagotchi games), I don't think the 3DS will get nearly as many.

At the same time the 3DS is probably going to get at least 2 million selling MH games that the DS never saw. Maybe the 3DS will see some new franchises of its own sell a million copies, it's not like anyone saw the titles you mentioned selling that well in advance.

I think 3DS will get at least 15 million sellers in its lifetime.

Granted, four of those will be Pokemon, so this is probably too conservative, but whatever!

This also begs the question, will Vita manage any million sellers? Maybe FFXHD?

I bet it will have more than that- I think Wii is right around 15.

And that's why I'm done here.

*You* (and others) are the one saying MH3G is gonna sell 1m+ and do wonders for the 3DS, yet here you are with your back out clause of "oh, it's not the real deal anyway". Make a decision and stick with it. I'm not talking about MH4, and I don't think anyone else was until you mentioned it right now.

Someone must have hacked your acount, there is no other explanation. It's not only *you* and others that expect these from MH3G. Retailers for months now say that people buy 3DS with no software in anticipation of MH3G and December releases, even Media Create has said that at some reports.

MK7 did as expected, but hardware really surprised. I thought it would do around 150K this week.
We knew from last Thursday that 3DS would get a big boost.

Enterbrain reported that 3DS had the highest November ever in Japan (the week of Mario Kart belongs to December). 85% of 3DS November software sales were Mario Land.

DCharlie

And even i am moderately surprised
Retailers for months now say that people buy 3DS with no software in anticipation of MH3G and December releases

i often wonder where these reports actually come from - i mean , do they actually ask people at checkout?

Or are they just putting the blocks together and coming up with a likely scenario?

"Retailers "also said that they weren't seeing the anticipated demand of MH convert into preorders as well a few weeks ago, yet now lots are no longer taking preorders due to selling out. Just seems to depend which site you read and when.

As people have said, the next few weeks ARE going to be interesting. What's going to make it even more fun is that Capcom seem to be going in fairly cautiously with numbers so that might even lead to "Is it selling? or is it just out of stock?!" gnashing of teeth.

If everyone thought like you, no platform would ever take off.

Yes, i'm advocating never moving from the PSP ever! <snort> game should never have moved from PS2. </snort>

The exact opposite was happening. Where did you read that? Everyone was suggesting for reservation in order to get a copy at launch.

Use better sources I guess?

How much are you expecting it to sell? it wont even break 500k.

It doesn't matter how much I expect it to sell.

No one can know whether it will be a disappointment or not till after release. Just like no one can no if MH3G will be a disappointment sales wise till after release.
