the game will be released in autumn 2012
Doing things first, and influencing others aren't one and the same. You know that yeah?
Did Microsoft influence the market with motion sensing controllers? No? Why not? They had it long before Nintendo and Sony did.
DerZuhälter;33582344 said:Wow... arguing about how "good" Stalker was? Are you kidding me? The vanilla version was basically riddled with bugs, and everything about this game was broken on release. The balancing was shit on the hardest settings and the AI was magically hitting every bullet with guns that absolutly lacked accuracy when I used them., so basically "cheating" AI. The openness of the world, made random encounters without cover, outside the setpieces, a chore.
If it weren't for the enthusiast modding scene and the complete mod, I'd say Stalker was a victim of GSC promising too much and delivering too little.

Nailed it. Crysis was fun, but the sandbox was very limited.
And the t-shrit started all of it, if I remember correctly.
Why does every freaking thread turn into fanboy arguments? I mean seriously...
Half Life 1 is my favourite game of all time, but I can see why people prefer games like Crysis or Halo. Why do they have to try to convince others otherwise? :\
I'm not asking for the game to come out tomorrow, all I'm asking is for valve to be a little more open about it, are they or aren't they working on it, "will talk about it when its time" is getting really fucking mundane/old.
I am going to take a stab in the dark here and say that Valve is incredibly proud of the Half-Life series and think that each new game in the series will bring the FPS genre forward.
Therefore they may feel that the have a lot to lose by revealing - to their competitors - the game too early. And, pride being what it is, want to make a BIG splash when they finally reveal the game.
And Crysis and STALKER are nothing alike.
SMH....the things I have to point out....
Crysis is an FPS
STALKER is an RPG
Back from the labs. Results are in.
Crysis droolz, STALKER rulez. Halo is lame. Half-Life 3 for 2012.
I would very much like Half-Life 3 and Halo 4 in 2012.
I didn't realize how lucky I was in 2007 at the time.
STALKER is an RPG
No, it isn't. There is no plot interactivity, which is required to classify it as a roleplaying game.
Objectively false. That disqualifies every single Final Fantasy, among others.
I don't really see it as pessimism. I'd much rather wait for a game Valve wants to build. At the end of the day, though, I have my reasons for being optimistic and you have your equally valid reasons for being pessimistic.![]()
the implementation of regenerating health in Tribes for example
Are you counting genre hybrids? System Shock 2 was 1999, Deus Ex was 2000, then you had the NOLF games in the early 00s, and Vampire TM - Bloodlines in 2004.
Well, presumably they spent quite a while iterating on and considering different possible structures and approaches to continuing Half-Life, then they had to do pre-production, and then they had to get far enough into the game that when they announce it they could show off something meaningful and not just give another empty promise that would irritate people more than soothe them.
No, it isn't. There is no plot interactivity, which is required to classify it as a roleplaying game. Just because an action (or any other game for that matter) game has an a bigger emphasis on stat-based mechanics does NOT automatically turn it into an RPG.
Objectively false. That disqualifies every single Final Fantasy, among others.
RPGs are games where you act out a role in a story, combined with having a degree of control over your character's development.
2012? Maybe after the Islamic calendar.Half-Life 3 for 2012.
It just seems like they stopped at a brick wall though. Now with all the waiting it seems like its going to be HL3 but from a story standpoint I don't see why they thought it would make sense to not make an Episode 3.

Sorry if this was already discussed elsewhere, but I'm assuming this is just a troll site. Tempering my hopes and all.
Go ahead given by Gabe to start dropping hints relating to the next Half Life game #Official #Valve
@Steamcast Holy shit - this is huge, right? Any linkage or sites?
@DillonStrichman No this is from an internal source.
https://twitter.com/Steamcast
The Steamcast guys were reliable before, but this wouldn't be the first time someone goes "ah, fuck it, I'm going to troll everyone pretending I have inside info".
This is my official post on how I stumbled upon my recently disclosed piece of information. The credibility will be determined by you.
Flow of information
spitfire1945 <--- Leveraged <--- Informant <--- Source connected with Valve
The information that I recently disclosed was 2nd tier information. 2nd tier information spans out on 2 levels. Leveraged is or was in contact with a contact that is friends with this Source connected with Valve.
The Informant contacted Leveraged with some information, and Leveraged wanted to see what part of that information could be shared with you while still maintaining the integrity of Valve secrets, so he came to me (Spitfire) to get my opinion on it. We are still not 100% certain of the credibility of the Informant… however, everything he's said so far has been correct dating back before the announcement of CS:GO, so we're optimistically hopeful.
Players
Who is Leveraged? Leveraged is a very fine gentleman who was part of the ARG group that was invited to Valve for Portal 2 release. His credibility is very high. In fact he even helped debunk the latest Half Life ARG phenomenon that was going around. Oh, he also created the Portal 2 ARG Wiki & Valve ARG Network.
What I've been told
I will quote you exactly what I was told.
Gabe has given the go ahead to drop hints for the next half life game.
What this means to us.
It is basically confirming that all the random things we've been seeing around Valve games relating to Half-Life are not people hallucinating on LSD. Nothing less nothing more. Do not assume anything else. You know what happens when people assume.
However, I don't want to further discuss this further. The Informant has shared more information beyond this but I am choosing not to share more info because if we do we can kiss Steamcast's professional relationship with Valve goodbye. I believe in journalism but not aggressive journalism. It's not like we are exposing a political tyrant. Plus I wouldn't want to ruin anything for Valve in their future endeavors and especially ruin any potential surprises (if there are any) for the rest of us.
Responsibility
In the event that this information turns out to be wrong then I and Leveraged have agreed to solely take the blame for it. Not my co-hosts, Sam or Brad. Steamcast has no part take in these matters.
Final Word
I know everyone is frustrated, everyone is tired of waiting and as Valve's biggest fan I am too. I just want everyone to hold their heads together and just follow through with things. Personally, this is not a situation I wanted myself to be in but the Informant came to us, and sometimes you have to man up and take risks even if everyone else hates you for it.
there is more information that is being withheld at this time... however according to awa88 that information should be released if the source is fine with it.
I'll talk with the source tomorrow and get some feedback from them.
In the meantime, I'll quote a famous holiday movie: "This is a very interesting situation!"
But Crysis wasn't really trying to be an open-world game. It was just a corridor wide enough to allow for multiple approaches to combat. And that meant they were able to put a massive amount of polish on pretty much every aspect, unlike Stalker which was more ambitious, but janky to the point of being broken.
And Crysis really is one of the hallmark FPS games, up there with Half-life 2, Halo, Doom etc. It's pretty baffling that there are still people who think it was just a pretty tech demo.
I mean how the hell is coal related to Christmas?!
It would be funny (as other people have already theorized) if the coal we are collecting is related to the Borealis, the same way the potatoes were related to GLaDOS.
I mean how the hell is coal related to Christmas?!
It's a...a "thing".
Like...if you were naughty, you'd get coal in your stocking for Christmas? People know this right? Right?
You know, I've never seen a game where the community created self hype for a game before. Especially to these insane levels. Valve must be proud.
How about Starcraft 2? I am genuinely asking, does anyone know if people were as obsessive about it as Half Life 3?
