My kids barely play the Wii anymore, so my need for a family friendly console is practically gone. If the U isn't packing some power, I'll save my money for PS4 or Xbox Loop.

So the message Nintendo wants to start the new year with is:
"We're going to launch a new console this year but we've made no progress since E3 2011."

Well a reaffirmation of a launch in 2012 was nice, I dont think it makes sense to hold everything until E3.
yeah I think its pretty ludicrous as well. I didn't believe it before but suppose this means that E3 will truly be the re-unveiling of the system.

Reggie was on GTTV like 4 months ago to say nothing and that aired in Europe, so that's where we stand by Nintendo's own standards.

Important thing is Nintendo verified that we will be able to buy a wii u by this time next year.
They are set to release it by the end of 2012, yes.
Either it's because they absolutely want to be first, or they really think the console will be ready by then.

What I want?
For Nintendo to show a goddamn non Mii/ low tech looking game. One good, fully in development 1st party AAA gameplay trailer would be good. I mean damn ... the thing is coming out in 2012 ... Shouldn't be that hard to show something that looks good. :/
Even more so when you remember how long ago we saw that damn Kid Icarus trailer.

I still don't think we'll get Pikmin this year. Miyamoto's gonna say something like "Well, we were almost done Pikmin 3 for the Wii, but then the Wii U came up and it was a perfect match for the game. Nintendo hasn't even shown Wii U to press (AFAIK) outside the US, even behind closed doors, yet they bring it out again after seven months of complete radio silence to just show off the exact same demos from E3? Odd, but I can't say I'm surprised.
They didn't say they don't have anything new, they just won't show it.
C'mon, Nintendo isn't stupid enough to outright say: "Sorry guys, we made absolutely no progress since E3!"
Plus, we know they did make progress with the devkit.

Showing NOTHING between two E3s isn't normal. Unless it's a radical new unveal, which it isn't, because this is Nintendo. It wouldn't kill them to show something at CES and GDC.

Yeah, I'll be really happy to just get a high-quality video of the updated bird demo that was on the show floor which showed numerous improvements over the conference video.

I'm with you on the frustration, but it really doesn't matter if they're quiet up until E3. Media perception can change in a heartbeat, and they just need a few months advance to really start building up hype. I think they should throw the public a bone too, but it's not something they have to do by any means.
This is probably the best we can expect. A 1080p version of the Bird Demo with the improved graphics. Ooh, and the Zelda one too, please.
I'm more than tired of hearing this shit.
I'm not saying Nintendo never makes mistakes, far from that. But to say Nintendo is screwing up "because it's Nintendo" just makes me teeth grind.
It's not like it's the first time. The Wii was "revealed" at E3 2005 with its codename still "Revolution" (though it wasn't a real reveal more than a tease and the console itself clearly wasn't ready), then we got the Wiimote reveal in September, only a few months later, but after that? NOTHING. Until E3 2006. Again.
This is not the first time Nintendo is doing this and it certainly won't be the last.
They always. Keep their stuff. For E3.

Yes it is. You can't even use the Wii/Wiimote reveal because it proves my point. They showed something between E3 05 and E3 06! Not the case with the Wii U. They have never gone totally silent for an entire year after announcing a console/portable.
They always have a fall conference to drop bombs. Before that, they had Spaceworld. An appearance from them at TGS regarding Wii U would have been nice (like in 2005).
But this year they had to focus on making 3DS not a failure, so Wii U was put aside I suppose.
Thank God Wii U looked disappointing, or else I'd be really pissed :lol
