PlayStation Vita Japanese Launch Thread. "APOCALYPTIC!" says concerned Nuclear Muffin

Official word from playstation.jp on the 1.51 update:

一部のPlayStation®Vita 規格ソフトウェアをプレイ中に、ゲーム進行に影響を及ぼす症状が確認されました。
今回のシステムソフトウェアにてこの症状を改善いたしました。
『真・三國無双 NEXT』

Basically, a bug/glitch was found which made progression in Dynasty Warriors NEXT impossible, and 1.51 fixes the issue. Strange that it is hardware related and not just fixed through a patch in DW NEXT itself. Wonder about the nature of the issue.

Not been checking this topic regularly, but has anyone actually been playing Ridge Racer?
I put a fair bit of time into it last night and levelled up a couple of times, which appears to make your cars faster. No wonder online has been such a crap shoot - everyone is driving different speed cars depending on their level!!! I prefer this to rubber-banding, I have to say, but it is kind of misleading when nothing is mentioned on lobby screens.

I have no idea how people have the patience to get to Level 16 on the three tracks that are available though. This game needs new tracks asap.

That´s a big deal, right?

[PSP] Gundam: Battle Tactics (Bandai) - 35,447 / 73,275
[PSP] Gundam: Battle Royale (Bandai Namco) - 53,369 / 114,861
[PSP] Gundam: Battle Chronicle (Bandai Namco) - 86,538 / 227,259
[PSP] Gundam: Battle Universe (Bandai Namco) - 153,180 / 252,092
[PSP] Gundam: Assault Survive (Bandai Namco) - 96,009 / 150,850

(note: some of those numbers [as reported by Famitsu] are wildly out of date)

Yes, if true, it would kind of be a big deal.

Pretty sure it's somewhere in Data believe it or not, I will try it out myself later today and let you know if I figure it out

Found it. Under data-profile. Press triangle to go into ar mode. It says to use the game pack but it worked on our carpet, so maybe any flat surface with some detail

Its really nice too. The vita camera is fantastic in low light, and the tracking is really well done. I had Yuna sitting on our carpet pretty much life size. You could definitely do some cool stuff with this.

Does dream club have an AR mode? :p

Hoe do you actuall progress- just lots of ghost races against the computer? Doesn't seem to be any structured single player mode at all. Although I like the idea of you racing for your team against others around the world, its just too sparse

You can gain levels by playing the spot races, where you race against 7 CPU cars. As you gain levels, I guess these get harder too, like the recent Ridge titles. Also you can race against ghosts you download. You can see a list of ghosts, and choose one you want to challenge. Each time you beat a real player ghost, your ghost score will increase... 1G -> 2G -> 3G etc. And you can get more points by beating a ghost that has a higher ghost score.

Gravity Daze demo from beginning to end:

http://youtu.be/yY-Lj03BT7o

Doesn't work for me. Has that :/ icon there. Maybe it's encoding?

Impression from demo. Very short 5-10 min max. Has that nice graphical style with jaggies you know of.
Controls pretty well actually and Motion Aim is a must, as right stick and square button are used in fighting. If you use stick only, it's very difficult to aim and then remove thumb from stick and press square.

Got me interested more, but waaaaay too short. Need more. Oh, and that black haired girl is hotter.

Haha, yes, basically this. If you want to use the right stick for aiming, you need to use the CLAW.

In the video, in order not to move my Vita too much, I used the right stick and it was harder for sure.

Black haired girl is the sex.

Instead of Claw, they should call it carpal tunnel grip.
Heeey. The comic cutscenes tilt feature is not in your video. I loved that.

Screens don't do these games justice. Luckily twentytwo22 exists.

Oh god between that gravity daze video/impressions and that opened box pic up above I just can't take it. Why isn't it february! somebody please tell me!

Great...I have to import it and learn Japanese to play it with the correct title.

:lol

I agree, the name change was unneccessary. RUSH! XTREEMMMME!
Kind of like changing Sonic World Adventure to Sonic Unleashed for NA/EU. UNLEASHED! SO KOOL!

Or how about Xenoblade turning to Xenoblade Chronicles in NA/EU. Yeah guys, in case you didn't know it was an RPG we put CHRONICLES at the end! So CLICHE! I mean, "interesting!"

All the above NA/EU titles, especially in this case with Gravity Daze -> Rush, makes them forgettable. "Daze" is a word that isn't in game title often thus the game would stick out in people's mind, "Rush" is just generic, cliche "trying too hard" bullshit.

I agree completely, it's exactly why i keep referring to this as gravity daze out of habit because rush is just so forgettable and bad in comparison , I mean daze isn't that great too but it out classes rush by a good mile.

I'll try, since no one has helped you yet.

I imported mine into the US and I used Fedex instead of DHL. You cannot use EMS (Japan Post) because they prohibit the shipment of lithium ion batteries via airmail.

Fedex requires you to fill out an additional form and to put a red warning label on the box. You can get those here: http://www.fedex.com/jp_english/about/local/servicenews/lithium_batteries.html You want number 4 as that applies to batteries contained in equipment (the Vita's battery is built in). Good luck, it's going to be expensive!

thanks mate looking into it =)

Anyone excited for Let's Try Bass Fishing: FISH ON Next?
It'll probably be my first import once I get my NA Vita.

Andriasang added new screens http://andriasang.com/comzi4/fish_on_next_screens/

It really is reminding me of an updated SEGA Bass Fishing (Dreamcast, also now available to download on PSN/Steam/XBLA)...great simple-yet-atmospheric environments, solid arcade-y feel and has that "Japanese" flair and slight cheese missing from western fishing games. "SUPER BIG!!!!" I'm going to bet it'll have good music, too.

Ah, came back home, time to download some Vita demos. Too bad the Gravity Daze one isn't new, but it was to be expected, guess I just clear it again.

Edit:
Oh, I just froze my Vita. Left the download window on the right open and put it to standby. When I pressed the power button again it was frozen, had to do hard reset. Can Vita people confirm if this happens for everyone? Have the new firmware btw.

Yeah, it's obviously the same segment from previous show floor demos, but I wonder how old the build is.

I can play gravity daze demo on my uk account. Basically I downloaded on vita using my Japanese account, reset the system to my uk account and it works.

Wait, so we'll be able to get Japanese digtital-only Vita games and earn trophies for them on our US/EU accounts this way??

I assumed it would need to read your JP account to play and activate the license...perhaps you're only able to play that demo because it's free content, paid content may require JP account.
I'm sure someone knows the answer though.

No you can't play digital titles. I downloaded the English version of little deviants on my HK account and that doesn't work on any other account. It must just be demos that work.

The demos don't have activation, yeah. If you try switching accounts with purchased content it'll prompt to format the card. That's my experience with it, anyway.

The only thing I haven't tried is backing up a game to your PC, switch accounts, then try to copy the game over. I doubt this will work though.

I'm fine with the paid content being unplayable, but does the Vita allow me to keep it, just like it does with demos, or are the transfers back and forth from a PC a must?

Bummer.

This account switching confusion has been nothing short of a roller coaster.

What happens if you don't deactivate an account before switching to a different one? or is the account deactivation automated during the restoration process?

Dammit.

Hopefully there aren't any or many JP digital-exclusive titles.

The only thing I can think of so far that's JP digital exclusive is "uke-torne", a portable version of torne, which can't even be used outside of Japan as far as I know due to needing Japanese TV.

I'm confused. I could have sworn
that the little deviants demo didn't work when I switched accounts. I'll try with virtua tennis and gravity daze if I can find WiFi nearby

Btw, minna no golf disables network connections if you go into 'free cam', which uses motion aiming. Wonder if there is an issue with motion accuracy when wifi/3g is active? That could be an issue with some games down the line

You can actually skip the deactivation process, it's a yes/no prompt, but it warns that you won't be able to deactivate later if you don't do it. So I haven't tried that. Not even sure why it isn't forced, since it sounds like you lose an activation if you don't do it.

See this is the part where I think we need to verify the consequences of. Being allowed to skip the deactivation only to lose forever, even if you switch back to the account later sounds incredibly stupid to me.

(Grasping at straws here)

For what it's worth, this is not the first time concerns and suspicions were raised about motion controls causing the networking suspension. But it doesn't make it any less arbitrary to me.

Edit:

The only other game I own that heavily used gyro controls was OoT on the 3DS. And that game disabled WiFi as well...

So it keeps some battery in deserve. Just had it shut off while playing mingol, connected the charger and the PS button flashes for a couple of minutes - you can't seem to power it on while its doing this. Once the PS button goes solid orange you can switch the vita on. It resumed instantly right where I left it.
