Not only are handhelds done for, CNET writer doesn't think Vita will come out in NA

I'd rather listen to my own child puke to death -- that is, choke to death on his own puke chunks -- than play a "handheld" game on an Apple device.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
You know. When I see things like this being said by people who work as analyst, who are PAYED for saying what they are expecting for the next future, I think lots of them just don't know about what they're talking about, in this case gaming. I know business world is volatile, especially in these days, but there are things that simply are absurd even to think.

Vita not coming in U.S.? Come on!

So many people talk about topics they don't even know a thing about!
Really, sometimes I think some of them are so busy in trying to create the best analysis possible basing it on past datas that they don't even think to just open the window and see what happens in the real world.

Pachter, so far, is a blatant example of this: his hw sales estimations are less accurate than ********!!!!!

And then, I just realize most of them only say what people WANT to hear, in most of the cases. Yeah, lots of them only understand the sound of the money.

I sometimes wonder if Apple is just buying these people off, or they really think the iDevice is the holy grail of gaming. Or maybe they are really that desperate for hits. I mean, who visits cnet?

IMHO, it is the same entrenched mindset that mocked at Apple when they were down. Not long ago, when Apple entered the MP3 and cellphone markets, some press already predicted doom for iPod and iPhone, even before iPhone was revealed. They, like Michael Dell, also thought that Mac was all over.

Journalists are trained to report what they see and hear. They are not trained to make new products or business. They will just flip flop based on the latest major trend.

I wouldn't be surprised if the same people go against Apple in the future when more Android devices show up, or when Apple makes a mistake. They are just reporting on the latest negative stories.

I love that people are being offended by someone they've never heard of making predictions in a 2012 predictions video podcast. :)

The mainstream media needs to STFU about gaming.

Also, in before "but Wii U isn't a next-gen platform" argument.

Who cares if the PSVita bombs or not? If devs stops supporting it, we won't see the result before a year or two, and the end of the world is scheduled for the end of 2012 so it doesn't matter.

In some cases, this might be a good idea.

Indeed.

In others, we would drown in arguments about whether Sony really does smell like dead fish, and why would moderators close it when it's obviously true and the moderators are just suppressing facts.

Posting an explanation wouldn't negate your stance, of course, but it's a more elegant solution than simply closing a thread with no public rationalisation.

A simple thread closing can turn in to a slaughter. I've actually been on the forefront of one of these, and is both unenjoyable and time consuming to handle.

A fair point, and one I don't pretend to know first-hand.

Sometimes, an explanation of moderator actions can be helpful. I do this on occasion. In others, it only incites angry, irrational people to be more angry and irrational than before.

Case in point, I do believe you closed one thread earlier this year last year that devolved into a "CreepyGAF" thread, citing Google's adsense policies as a justification. This, I'm sure you can gather, I appreciate.

Or, put more directly: GAF is not moderated by committee.

Yes, but you Red Labels have been known to convene on occasion! ;)

I should point out that the forum I frequented prior to GAF made a point of making mod/admin decisions clear to the general posting public, and while there's no denying it's less popular than GAF, I do appreciate its administration policy - again, though, I understand such an approach isn't universally appropriate.

To clearly define my previous post, it was a matter of thinking aloud rather than a criticism of GAF's administration policy, and consider this my last post on the matter (ITT) seeing as it's neither here nor there.

It was just a one-liner sarcastic joke about the dumb article. Didn't mean to make it such a big deal lol was just curious, sorry.

Right, now you can see why we don't tend to explain things. Explanations often make angry or irrational people even more so, not less, even if your explanations are perfectly logical. In this case, it was simply a snarky comment that I didn't feel like making (even if it's warranted by the articles' contents). I try to avoid any caustic behaviors on a forum on which it is already difficult enough to maintain decorum.

Now please, let's return to the topic at hand.

I wonder when the first Handheld gaming is dead! article would be written in 2012. Maybe someone somewhere will write it as soon as the new year comes.

The day iOS gets a dedicated directional sticks alongside the touch screen is the day iOS wins.
if there is one thing I can't stand its my chubby fingers obscuring the screen to control onscreen stick and buttons.

My nephews are growing up on Angry Birds. The optimist in me says it's better their first experience rather than a later one.

I have enjoyed many iOS games, but I don't usually play them for too long. Stuff like Elis, Edge, Cut the Rope, Infinity Blade, and so on, are quite fun. But I only play them for a short while before I get bored. Then you have things like NOVA and SHADOW Uncharted or whatever, which are just unfun shit. I don't enjoy virtual controls.

Chaos Rings was fun though. I would consider that a good game.

What games have you played?

Angry Birds, Cut the rope, Zenonia games, Fruit Ninja, one of the kariosoft games (don't remember which, it was about cars and racing), Rage on iOS and also a few classic games that are unplayable on a virtual pad.

Oh an Road Avenger.

And probably a few bunch of free games on Android which name I don't remember....

The kairosoft game and Road Avenger worked and play nicely, add that to the decent list.

I have an android phone and I barely use it for gaming at all, more exactly I don't use it for gaming at all.Because I got tired pretty soon of most games, and games that try to be more like console/portable games are pretty awful.

So you never used an iOS device?
I have an iPhone 4S and the only game I've seen that's any decent above $1 is Infinity Blade. All the other games I've gotten for it have all been $1 and haven't held my attention past the first time playing except for Cut the Rope

It seems like the NA media loves to smear Sony. They did the same shit with the PS3 by writing articles like "Will PS3 bury Sony?" and "Will the PS3 make it?" It's a bunch of bullshit.

I've also played:

Doom Resurrection (fukbad, repetitive, ugly)
Words with Friends
Civ Rev
Bookworm
Mirror's Edge (fun)
GTA3

It's more of a novelty for me. It might be a mindset. Even short burst gaming (like RE Mercenaries) is more enjoyable with real controls on a ds.

This particular article is a bunch of sensationalized nonsense, but Sony as a whole is definitely not in great shape. It's not NA being biased, it's just the sad truth.

So because you restrict yourself to mostly $1 games because you're cheap, the blanket statement of saying the entire iOS is full of $1 shovelware (except for Infinity Blade 2) must be true

Most articles criticizing Sony have been out of the US. The US is really the only place where Sony hasn't been on topic this year (in terms of console sales).
