Soul Calibur V goes gold - New Vids, Screens

I just hope the rest are better than what is essentially a palette swap with a reused moveset. Especially if an original character with a unique moveset somehow doesn't make the cut.

They probably will be...hell this was a leak not even a real reveal.

This seems like a story related thing anyway (probably the whole you gotta play story to unlock character(s) thing that popped up a while ago).

I wish they would just get it over with and reveal them already...the game comes out in 2 weeks.

Oh. So
Xiba is Kilik and Xianghua's son, but he doesn't know who his parents are and is being raised by his grandfather. Does he know his grandfather is his grandfather?

And what about Leixia? She's Xianghua's daughter with the general she was forced to marry? I suppose she knows who her parents are, right?

Here's what happened, from what we know:

Kilik and Xianghua were together, then Kilik disappeared/died/whatever the hell happened to him. Xianghua was pregnant with Xiba. Without Kilik, Xianghua gives birth and decides to go back home to daddy. Her grandfather tells her "we arranged a marriange for you, deal with it" and she basically just bends over and takes it. But she begs her father to raise her and Kilik's son, and he agrees on the condition that he never knows who his mother is.

Xianghua marries General Whoeverthefuck and has two more kids (Leixia and one more, can't remember her name). Xiba is raised by Xianghua's dad, with no knowledge of his parents, sisters or his grandfather (who is his master), yet through the magic of video game storytelling shenanigans (aka "fate/destiny") self-teaches himself Kilik's fighting style (which he did not know was his father's fighting style) and mixes it with what he learned from Xianghua's dad.

AFAIK there has been a reveal scheduled for the 19th in Famitsu for weeks. So we should be finding out sometime tomorrow night probably about at least a few more.

There is also a pre-release tournament on the 24th (Tuesday) in San Fransisco that will apparently have more characters unlocked than have been revealed already. So we are either getting a reveal late tomorrow or worst case on the 24th (though if it happens tomorrow the new playables on the 24th will likely just be reveals we get tomorrow instead of more new ones).

Thank you, I appreciate it.

I hope we get to kick General Whoeverthefuck's ass with Xiba in a story mode.

Maybe Tira's style? LoL

If it is like Pat's it won't be a style otherwise in the game. (Ie it may be Talim's, Yun's, or some people are also speculating a variation on Vader's from SCIV.) FWIW, the Vader option for Omega Pyrrha is most interesting imo.

Erigu

Member
Well, Pyrrha is confirmed to also get a style swap too due to story. Don't know what style that is going to be though.
Li Long's double nunchaku! Would be about as logical as Patroklos using Setsuka's moves, after all.
(man, I really hope there's more to this than what we've seen...)

I wouldn't be surprised if Patsuka replaced Setsuka late in development.
Also take into account the shape of the new Soul Edge, it has to be a short sword style (or at least a sword style).

As for the Xiba story I wouldn't trust Namco's European sites, didn't they mess up Tekken's characters bios?

It'd only work if he screamed his own name at the end of every round.
Oh gosh xD

The current roster rumors that are flying around are driving me mental. If I don't get Bangoo... :(

Fill us (or rather me) in?

editL Ah you talking about the two mimic characters( One of which being Kilik..) being the final two characters with the other being Ultra Pryrea?

that would suck big time. No Talim feels bad man

Fill us (or rather me) in?

Sure, though it's not pretty.

Alpha Pat, Omega Pyrrah, "Inferno" Kilik (mimics male characters), Elysium (Possible Sophitia clone in appearance, mimics female characters).

If this is true, then we've got THREE mimic characters. No Bangoo, Talim, Hwang, Zas, etc. >_<

Now, what the basis for all these rumors are, I don't know. But since the Alpha Pat thing panned out, a lot of people are jumping on this too. (Side note, Alpha Pat is apparently the "cross dresser" that was rumored not too long ago.)

If true then I'm on the "this shit was rushed yo" bandwagon...

and still will buy it day 1.

But seriously what the fuck is the point of 3 mimics? Unless they change on the fly like they have a shitton f weapons and stuff otherwise...what the fuck is the point Namco.

Hope it is untrue

edit:

Also....couldn't the alpha and omega siblings be the mimics?....Just a thought and iit might make sense story wise...

I'm still day -1, but that would be so deflating if it turns out to be true. (But the rumored list doesn't take into account those two blocked off spaces...)

We're supposed to get more news on the 19th right? At least, that's what I've seen stated a few places. I need info now.

Maybe the blocked off spaces aren't supposed to be characters at all. Maybe they just couldn't come up with two more characters to fill out all the rows, so they filled two spots with a Soul Edge eye picture and called it a day. =\

Sun Wuk.. Xiba will apparently travel with Maxi, Leixia (how is her name pronounced?) and Natsu.

Also for now I'm hoping for a Talim style in CAS :/

The rumor posted before the Alpha Patroklos reveal (on 8wayrun) only mentioned
Omega Pyrrah and "Kilik on fire"
, and it didn't say anything about their movesets. The more complete rumor you're mentioning now was started on Shoryuken.com's forums, and only after the Alpha Patroklos reveal.

I won't be surprised at all if a Setsuka model ends up as a DLC now, plus whatever Omega Pyrrha is really supposed to be. I also suspect they didn't get the art done in time, which I don't understand, as Art is probably the easiest part of a 3d fighter.

It could be a blatant cash grab by Namco. It won't affect me too much, because I'm probably stuck with playing Xiba, but I've not liked this one bit.

Just because its rushed doesn't exactly mean its bad. /run

Also, just because it's not something you particularly want, doesn't make it rushed. Game was looking polished to everyone until the alpha Pat footage. We don't know what that is, or what the development focus actually is for that particular aspect of the game - or where it even fell in the development timeline. We just know, based on one-minute-long footage of some crummy player trying to get his bearings with the game, that we don't like it; so it's clearly lazily executed, rushed and replaced (insert you favorite missing character here).

*sigh*

Alpha Patroklos (Setsuka style)
Evil Pyrrha (Sophitia style)
"Malfested" Kilik (Male mimic style, including from characters not in SC5; Zasalamel, Apprentice, Vader, Rock, etc)
"Final Boss" Sophitia (Female mimic style, including from characters not in SC5; Talim, etc)

Those are the remaining characters. Have fun.

Edit: Darn bbcoding. >.>

Odashima said they were being rushed, remember? It has nothing to do with liking something or not, the "rushed" comments have been around for a while, or at least the worries of what that'd mean for the game.

Well, aren't there pics of
Sophitia
though?

Let's not get crazy yet guys. The 3 mimic rumour is pretty unfounded at the moment and stems from a random post on SRK. I am not saying it is right or wrong, just let's not treat it as what is happening just yet. The character reveals supposed to happen later today/tomorrow will probably shed some light on it. There have been more rumours than just this one about a "Kilik on Fire" or "Inferno Kilik" or whatever but that doesn't mean he has to be a mimic (and I honestly welcome Kilik back in any form).

@SolarKnight, The Sophitia picture is from story mode. She is for sure in the game, just not necessarily playable (but I wouldn't be surprised).

Well, yeah, but the point is that it makes that list at least a little more credible.

To be fair, every good rumour is at least partially based in truth or has enough evidence out there to seem reasonable before throwing in the really ridiculous claims.

Honestly, at this point, I do not care how mimic-like the new chars/announcements will be. The current cast is solid enough, and if they are balanced properly, then that is more than enough, especially with CAS being in there.

Hey, now we're judging old tweets without context! Sounds like the internet to me!

*edit*

Seriously, what developer isn't being rushed to put out their games nowadays? Publishers don't let you develop a game forever. The game's clearly been in production for longer than the under-two-year period people assumed when the game's release date was announced. Odashima could have easily been expressing discontent with dev schedules like ALL developers do. Look at the game outside the aPat "monstrosity". Game looks crazy polished. Going back to the old "rushed" accusation from almost a year ago makes no sense. At least see what the intention is behind this thing before calling it lazy, or saying the entire game has been rushed.

Roster may be solid, but there's no excuse for all the mimics, if the rumor is true. Zasalamel, Yun-seung, Talim, Setsuka ... these characters deserve their own slot; or, a new character with a similiar move set. SCIV came out when, in 08? It isn't like they haven't had time.

Yeah, I thought the tweet was in response to a question asking what all they were putting in, and Daishi responding that they'd like to put more in, but they have to get the game out.

This game started development 2 years ago. Even though SC4 sold well, it didn't look like we'd be getting another one.

Well so far at least Setsuka's moves are in, even if they are pasted onto Patroklos. It is definitely better having it this way than the style not being in at all though.

In other news, an interview with Daishi on SRK seems to say there will definitely be DLC.

Yeah I'm aware, I'm just saying there has been a sizeable gap between sequels, and this will be the last Soulcal until next-gen systems. You would think, or maybe you wouldn't, they would want to make it the definitive version.

Surprised they didn't delay if it's just art assets. January is not a common month to put big stuff out, and delaying to early March wouldn't kill or run into anything big. I'm suspecting a cash grab.

March would put it up against SxT.

Given everything we've seen, I don't see how this game is a "cash grab." Maybe it's because I pay more attention to the competitive side of SC, Namco doesn't put thousands of dollars into major tournaments on a game that's just a cash grab.
Is that a fucking megabuster?

Wut?

Anyone have that 'behind the scenes' video interview with Odashima at Bamco? I remember him saying something like "we want this game to succeed so we can make a SCVI, SCVII and onwards)

So my guess is SCV is too "SF4-fy things" to bring in a new crowd then build on top with the eventual sequel.

Rushed doesn't have to mean that it's going to be bad though, I completely agree that the game is looking great anyways. Personally, I don't really care if it was rushed or not as long as the game ends up actually being as good as it's looking right now.

But it isn't JUST setsuka's style. It's some frankenstein Apprentice and Setsuka.

Why do you say that? I am not saying you're wrong, but I don't really see that based solely on the 60 seconds or so of footage we have of the style so far. It definitely just looks like Setsuka's with some slight animation differences to me, not to mention the guy was going grab happy a lot of the time...which indicates nothing. I don't see any of Apprentice's weird jump up in the air stance stuff or magical force lightning or anything like that. I can see the argument that he is holding the sword similarly to him but that doesn't really mean anything.

Well if the move sets are already in the game, and it wouldn't surprise me if the missing characters are released as downloadable content, probably as skins in character creator.

Want to not only play as Yun-seung, but look like him too? Five bucks, please.

Edemaster vid has several of Apprentice's kicks.

The good news for me is, if these rumors are true I'm not going to waste time playing single player to unlock them.
